After eight years, Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center (IHMEC) CEO Susan Abrams has announced she will step down.
Since her arrival at IHMEC in 2014, the Museum has become a global leader in Holocaust and museum education, recently opening The Journey Back, a groundbreaking virtual reality experience on view at The Richard & Jill Chaifetz Family Virtual Reality Gallery.
The museum has also been involved with various LGBTQ+-related events. One of the more recent events IHMEC hosted was "LGBTQ+ Life and Death Under the Nazi State," which took place in February. Last October, it hosted a "Legacy of Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement" panel discussion to kick off the exhibit "Rise Up: Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement."
Current exhibits at the Skokie museum include "The Journey Back: A VR Experience" and "Shanghai: Safe Haven During the Holocaust," among others.
"I have been humbled to build on the foundation and vision of our wise founders," Abrams said in a statement. "It is knowing that I will leave the Museum on solid financial footing, with strong momentum, and with an incredible staff and Board team to carry the Museum forward, that I tell you I look forward to working with you to create a smooth transition and to supporting the Museum for years to come as a passionate donor and friend." |
