Chrome version 110 adds Nvidia RTX Video Super Resolution support

RTX video is coming soon to RTX 30 and RTX 40 series GPU

Nvidia’s RTX technologies are coming to Chrome, aiming to enhance the internet browsing experience of users by using their AI prowess to upscale low resolution videos to 4K with a new feature called RTX Video Super Resolution. This feature allows low resolution video to be enhanced to deliver a higher quality viewing experience, and Chrome version 110 is now ready to support it.

Based on the notation below, Nvidia’s RTX Video Super Resolution feature will be controlled by Nvidia’s GPU drivers, with Chrome utilising the feature when it is turned on in Nvidia’s Control Panel. This feature is due to be available to RTX 30 series and RTX 40 series GPU owners, with RTX 20 series GPUs seemingly lacking support for the feature at launch.

At CES 2023, Nvidia showcased RTX Video Super resolution working with YouTube videos. The feature is due to become available for both the Chrome and Edge browsers, and is likely to support video content outside of YouTube.

As the video below showcases, RTX Video Super Resolution increases the quality of streamed videos by removing compression artefacts and upscaling a video’s resolution. This makes video appear sharper and more detailed than before.
