Red Cross Peddle Climate Alarm

Now the Red Cross are peddling climate misinformation:
Parts of the UK will experience a heatwave over the weekend, with soaring temperatures set to last a week.
Temperatures will rise higher than popular holiday destinations like St Tropez, Santorini, and even Marbella on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
California’s Los Angeles may also be cooler than parts of Great Britain.
It is forecasted to be at least 28C across London and the South East by Friday afternoon, and the heat will stick around into next week.
The South West, Midlands and North West are looking to be cooler, at around 25C today.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office have issued a level 2 heat-health alert warning, which will be in place from Monday to Friday next week and covers the East of England, South East and London regions….
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist David Oliver said: "We’re at the start of a stretch of warm weather for much of England and Wales, that could last for much of next week.
"In the short term, many can expect temperatures in the mid to high 20s Celsius over the weekend, and then in the low 30s during the start of next week.
The Red Cross has warned people of the dangers of very hot temperatures.
Spokesman Matthew Killick said: "We’re all looking forward to enjoying some warm weather this summer, but it’s important to remember that heat can be very dangerous, especially for children, older people and those with underlying health conditions.
"Climate change means we’re experiencing longer and more intense heatwaves, but a worrying number of people aren’t aware of the risks around hot weather.
"In England alone there were more than 2,500 excess deaths in the summer of 2020, and unfortunately it’s predicted that heat-related deaths in the UK could treble within 30 years."

No, Mr Killick – heatwaves are not getting worse, despite what lies you may have heard from the Met Office. Nor is there anything unusual about the current hot spell.
Oxford, for instance , is forecast to reach 30C on Monday:
But Oxford regularly hits 30C. Since 1900, for instance, there have been 60 out 121 years with temperatures reaching 30C or more – every other year in other words.
And there is nothing alarming about the number of hot days each year; the summer of 2018 was exceptional, with 47 days, but was little different to the summers of 1911 and 1976, which contained 45 and 46 days respectively. Other than that, recent summers have not been exceptional at all:

As for his dishonest reporting of excess deaths in summer, mat be he would care to explain why mortality rates in July and August have been declining since 2001. Deaths rates in that roasting summer of 2018 were actually one of the lowest on record, and the same applies to the summer of 2020.
Instead of lying to the public, perhaps the Red Cross should get back to dong their proper job.

It’s what happens when the NHS becomes the national covid service. Supprised it wasn’t more.
And very little evidence those excess deaths had anything to do with heat rather than the large number of other potential causes.
I was taught as a (very vulnersble 😀) child to wear a ‘hat’ in sunny weather and not like a mad dog, go out in the midday sun.. At least not naked.
What we have to realise if you make your living my writing stuff then the more attention seeking it is the better.
Facts are just boring.
The insidious ‘nudging’ is all over the media – ‘keep your kids out the sun’ etc.
I spent my childhood summers in Hong Kong getting torched every weekend at the beach. Mum slapped on plenty of sunscreen (basically cooking oil in an exotic bottle) which lasted for 5 minutes before it was washed off in the ocean.
I recall lots of calamine lotion every Sunday night.
Never suffered a moments inconvenience since.

What a scorcher ! Its not exactly 1976 or 1921 . As an Australian I regularly played cricket and worked outdoors in a labor intensive job in 35 – 45 C heat as a younger man No air conditioning ….Just drink water and do not over exert yourself .
Further, I would like to see the co morbidities of the 2500 who allegedly died in the English summer of 2020 . Regardless the fatalities are dwarved by the winter and moderate cold temperature deaths in the United Kingdom and indeed every country surveyed in the Gasparini et al Lancet study…….

The advice I’ve seen about exposure to sun is simply to avoid burning. Some skin types are more susceptible than others so there is a need to be more careful.
And UV exposure isn’t the same as heat. A sunny day at 22 degrees is probably the same UV as at 30 degrees. The higher temperatures are just warm air from the south, not more sun.
South Today was just spouting about wildfires being worse because of climate change. To my knowledge nearly all significant UK fires in recent years have been malicious or BBQ. Banning those instant BBQs is an effective change you can actually make.

Because they’re too hot to handle and still alight when the cooking is over people just leave them to go out.
The result is inevitable, burnt feet for children and animals, wildfires, and a lot of aluminium littering the countryside.

An ITV Anglia weather forecaster said a few days ago that they get the forecast from the 50 models that they produce. He said one model out of the 50 indicated it would reach 40C in the next week or so. As someone else said in a previous post some time ago, they then sit round a table and decide which model is most likely to be right. Basically no one can accurately predict the uk weather let alone the worlds climate. Why do seemingly intelligent people believe the worlds climate can be controlled?
They certainly believe people can be controlled and manipulated.
I posted a link to the MO 41c model forecast a short while ago, and the fact that they were claiming it was an indication of climate change that the model even gave that result for the first time!
I’ve said for many years that they hype up the forecast of anything be it heatwaves, storms (thunder or tempests), cold snaps and so on. This is now part of the Climate Change agenda. Initially I think the forecasters over egged it to avoid doing a Michael Fish; now it’s so we remember the forecast not the actuality that came after the forecast. It may mean a desperate search for weather stations giving a “correct” reading for a near miss

Yes, an unfortunate prediction indeed. Whoever made it was inventing numbers.
Older people are more vulnerable to the heat. UK demographics mean there will be more older people in the next 30 years.
If the numbers were put in the context of age and deaths per one hundred thousand the projection would probably be meaningless.
Older people are much more vulnerable to COLD. FTFY.
Cold is the killer. That is much more of a problem than normal summer teperatures
I have the solution for your “excessive” heat. Bottle it! Ship it out to South Australia where we have been getting cold temperatures lately – the locals have made up a new name for it and call it WINTER. (It is minus 1.1℃ just before sunrise). My main source of heat is a HEAT PUMP but I haven’t turned it on as I know the outside coils will ice up very quickly.
I am typing this in a warm room due to an electric heater, but SA has a fragile electricity grid based on “renewables” (and lots of gas and diesel).
If you can’t get the shipping due to the current disruptions, then you should store the bottled heat for the coming winter. There was recent publicity about the Finnish use of a 100 ton sand heat storage, so everyone should install one of those inside their house – it would be cheaper and more inconvenient than recent government schemes. Offset the cost by NOT donating to the Red Cross.
Don’t forget the interconnectors to neighbouring states coal-fired power stations – well, for as long as they are there.

Over here in the US the Red Cross – whom I have been a staunch supporter of and contributor to, decided that they were going to encourage their donors to consider their white privilege and other such racist tosh. They lost our donations immediately.
Ditto. No more money from me to the Red Cross. And also ditto to RNLI who spend my donations facilitating people smugglers in the English channel.
Paradoxically I sat in the garden late yesterday evening and only felt comfortable with my berghaus fleece on.
Never felt the need for my berghaus fleece in Spain in July. But its a heatwave so I must be careful.
For a species that evolved in hot east Africa we seem to have become bizarrely vulnerable to heat! As for being “hotter than St Tropez or Marbella” I see they pick places by the sea which are always a little cooler than inland. Where I am in SW France (where lits of people holiday) is forecast to be 35 tomorrow and 39 by Saturday – considerably warmer than London.
Don’t they love to use some far off place in these pieces of crap such ‘it will be warmer than…’. the Mail used Rio de Janeiro the other day which most people will associate with sunny beaches but it is actually winter down in S America and mighty cold it has been so far.
My forecasters -Wunderground and weather-forecast.com – have next weekend as 88/89F and 86/95F respectively. There is also Tuesday as 86 or 84. The more important temp is the nighttime one as that guides how you sleep. And they are all 70 or less, even going as low as 55. So no need to get out the big fans as yet. Being that I record my weekly energy use including notes as to why they might be higher or lower, I see that in the week after next there is a note ‘heat fans’. So nearly a year ago we had some warm weather as well. And that was the only time they were used last year. As to the forecasts, well next weekend is a long way off and they will change as they have from yesterday.
I have no use for the Red Cross. They are the problem and not the solution. Where does all their money go?????

Covid would’ve caused excess deaths in the preceding winter, so many of those vulnerable to heat in the summer would’ve already been removed from the figures.
Only 30 °C? That is cold in comparison with many countries who do NOT panic when the sun shines.
May was colder than usual, though. No-one mentions that – inconvenient truth.

I’m old enough to remember the long drought and brown grass of 1976, I’m pretty sure there’s been nothing like that since.
The WIndies thrashed us on scorched outfields1976…….and as pointed out above, UK summer – hot – temperatures are hot air from near to the equator driven by southerly winds depositing sand too; never known a heat wave driven by hot air from the Artic Circle region. I wonder if temperature records are being broken in North Africa ?
Wonder what will be said when we have prolonged rain, say, later and hopefully not in the Harvest season ( a not unusual “weather” event )?
