Read details on the game below:

As wannabe rockstar Chai, you’ll fight back against a sinister robotics enhancement conglomerate using rhythm-amplified combat where everything – from the motion in the environment to the blows of combat – is synced to the music. Raise your guitar high and feel the beat in this utterly all-new title from Tango Gameworks, the team behind The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo(We were surprised, too!)

hai Versus the World

After a diabolical corporation mistakenly fuses a music player to Chai’s heart, he is quickly labeled a ‘defect,’ with hordes of corporate drones (read: an actual robot horde) hellbent on recalling him! Now armed with the power to feel the beat of the world around him, it’s up to Chai to battle through each department of the robotic monolith to stop their evil schemes with his new, rhythmically enhanced combat skills!

Feel. The. Beat

Everything in Hi-Fi Rush automatically syncs to the music, from swinging your trusty “axe” to dodging out of the way of an oversized metallic fist. The game isn’t locked to the music track, however – Hi-Fi Rush is rhythm-action with the emphasis on “action.” Players must feel the rhythm to enhance Chai’s actions, pulling off heavy Beat Hits at the end of a combo like a cymbal crash, or syncing up with one of his allies for a devastating tag-team finisher. In Hi-Fi Rush, every battle is an opportunity to play out your own music video fantasy, seamlessly coordinating all your moves with the soundtrack.

Rowdy Rebels Vs. Badass Bosses

The maladjusted megacorp after Chai would sooner swallow nails than let a single supposed defect ruin their bottom line. With the help of some newfound allies, however, Chai may just have what it takes to rumble his way up the corporate ladder, with each department culminating in a cinematic face-off with its boss – complete with their own musical track!

Grab Your Headphones

Speaking of music, Hi-Fi Rush features a killer mixtape of both licensed and original songs to tap your toes (or if you prefer, bang your head) to, each synced to their own levels in the game. Worried about playing licensed music during a stream?  Fret not: Hi-Fi Rush includes a streamer-friendly alternate audio mode which replaces those licensed songs with original tracks made especially for streaming Hi-Fi Rush.

Amp It Up With The Hi-Fi Rush Deluxe Edition

Wanna crank things to 11? Get yourself some bonus swag with the Hi-Fi Rush Deluxe Upgrade Pack! Mix up your look with some special cosmetics, plus Gears for a head start on unlocking skills & upgrades.

In addition to the base Hi-Fi Rush game, the Deluxe Edition also includes:

  • Two Chai outfits
  • Seven bonus Chai t-shirts
  • 808-Themed Guitar Skin
  • 808 Alternate Skin
  •  20,000 Gears for unlocking combat skills and other upgrades. (Note: Gears are obtained through combat and exploration in-game and not available as a purchasable currency.)

Players who already own Hi-Fi Rush can also purchase the Deluxe Edition Upgrade, which adds all the additional Deluxe Edition content to your game! Both the Deluxe Edition and the Deluxe Edition upgrade can be purchased via the Microsoft Store.

I’m not sure whether it would be for me, but the rhythm gameplay is a fun idea.

What a surprise. It definitely doesn't feel like a "same day release" game that you are used to seeing. I will hopefully get a chance to play some time this week.

That's probably the coolest shadow drop so far. Knew nothing of the game before today. Can play it today.

I was thinking that crossed with the thought "huh... looks like it'll do a better job than No Straight Roads" too.

I literally just heard about this game today and bought it on Steam. And it's freaking great! This is the kind of thing I like to see from the gaming industry.

Or Mikami's dream sci-fi RPG he has said he wants to make before he retires. He said he only has 1 more game in him before he retires, and I believe he said he needs the full studio to make it, so now that both Ghostwire Tokyo and HiFi Rush are released, he should have the full studio at his disposal to make it.

My understanding was that it was a AAA sci-fi open world game with survival, action-adventure, and RPG elements, codenamed Noah. The game was described as somewhat similar to the movie Dune, and was set in a universe where Earth's resources were mostly used up leading to most humans moving to offworld colonies. Contact with one of the colony worlds would be lost, and the player would be a member of the team sent to investigate the colony that contact was lost with.

When Mikami first opened Tango in March 2010, they were developing the concept for Noah alongside several other prototypes, but Noah was so ambitious that they ran into issues developing it with their small team size (just 12 people at the time) and issues funding it. My understanding is that Zenimax saw that Tango was struggling as an indie studio, and stepped in and raised $150m to acquire Tango in October 2010 and help him grow the studio into a AA and eventually AAA studio. At the time Zenimax apparently told him that Noah was a bit too ambitious for them to invest in as this would be his first game with a brand new studio, they wanted Tango to cut their teeth with a traditional survival horror game first, something Mikami knew how to make already, and a somewhat smaller and cheaper dev team, so project Zwei went forward instead of project Noah, with Zwei becoming Evil Within.

After Evil Within released, Mikami decided that before he retires he wanted to train up the next generation of game directors to replace him, so he let John Johanas direct Evil Within 2 and now HiFi Rush, and let Kenji Kimura direct Ghostwire Tokyo. Now that both Johanas and Kimura have been trained up to replace him as game directors in the future, it stands to reason that Mikami would likely want to revisit Noah since he said in 2020 that he only had 1 more game in him as a director before he is ready to retire. Now that he has Microsoft's huge wallet at his disposal, he should have no issue growing Tango to the full AAA size needed to develop Project Noah.
