Football mourns the loss of talented coach Frank Connor

Tributes have been paid to Frank Connor after the former Celtic goalkeeper, coach and caretaker manager died yesterday.

Connor passed away on Thursday morning in Uddingston after a short illness, less than a month after celebrating his 86th birthday.

Born in Blantyre in 1936, Connor made eight first-team appearances for Celtic between 1960 and 1962, before joining Portadown. He later had spells with St Mirren, Derry City, Albion Rovers and Cowdenbeath, combining his playing duties with coaching roles at the latter two clubs.

Connor managed Berwick Rangers before briefly becoming Jock Wallace’s assistant at Motherwell. He enjoyed success at the helm of Raith Rovers, guiding them to promotion to the First Division in 1987 and keeping them up before becoming Joe Jordan’s No 2 at
