Tremor in Dark Force – While Davos Ongoing, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern Announces She’s Quitting – Before Getting Crushed in Election

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacina Ardern was only exceeded in the leftist hierarchy by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Ardern is to the Australian continent what Barack Obama was to North America and Angela Merkel was to Europe.

Stunningly, Jacinda Ardern has announced she will not seek reelection and is resigning from her position. Ironically on the timing, her political career was an outcome of Davos recruitment.

Ardern’s extreme COVID-19 dictates and fiats to include isolation, quarantine camps, severe regimented social lockdowns, forced and mandatory vaccinations and subsequent passports etc, made her the visible face of government COVID-19 extremes.

Keeping with her apt description as a smiley-faced fascist, she did not care about the backlash from her totalitarian dictates and fiats. The government owned the media, and the concerns of Kiwi’s about the government extremes were dispatched without regard.

Struggling to come to grips with the looming defeat she would likely face; an emotional Jacinda Ardern made her resignation announcement to the media. She exits on February 7th. WATCH:

    Too much negative feedback.

‘The IPCC has indicated many times that they believe the science around global climate feedback is settled. How can this be reconciled with the published WV/LRF increasing significantly between their 2007 report and their 2019 report. The published confidence limits don’t even overlap.’ (wuwt)

WHO & WEF Vow To Strip Nations of Their Sovereignty, Create Globalist Totalitarian State

As previously reported by The Defender, the IHR framework already allows the WHO director-general to declare a public health emergency in any country, without the consent of that country’s government, though the framework requires the two sides to first attempt to reach an agreement.

Roguski said the proposed documents would give the WHO power over the means of production during a declared pandemic, call for the development of IHR infrastructure at “points of entry” (such as national borders), redirect billions of dollars to the “Pharmaceutical Hospital Emergency Industrial Complex” and remove mention of “respect for dignity, human rights and fundamental freedoms of people.”

Francis Boyle, J.D., Ph.D., professor of international law at the University of Illinois, said the proposed documents may also contravene international law.

Boyle, author of several international law textbooks and a bioweapons expert who drafted the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989, recently spoke with The Defender about the dangers — and potential illegality — of these two proposed documents.

“It’s clear to me they are preparing both the regulations and the treaty for adoption by the World Health Assembly in May of 2023,” Boyle said. “That’s where we stand right now as I see it.”

Roguski said the pandemic treaty would provide a structure to redirect massive amounts of money “via crony capitalism to corporations that profit from the declarations of Public Health Emergencies of International Concern” (‘pandemics’) and “the fear-mongering that naturally follows such emergency declarations.”

Boyle warned that the treaty and proposed IHR regulations go even further. “The WHO, which is a rotten, corrupt, criminal, despicable organization, will be able to issue orders going down the pike to your primary care physician on how you should be treated in the event they proclaim a pandemic.”

Moreover, Boyle said, the pandemic treaty would be unlike many other international agreements in that it would come into immediate effect. He told The Defender:

“If you read the WHO Treaty, at the very end, it says quite clearly that it will come into effect immediately upon signature.

“That violates the normal processes for ratification of treaties internationally under the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, and also under the United States Constitution, requiring the United States Senate to give its advice and consent to the terms of the treaty by two-thirds vote.”

Geopolitical instability raises threat of ‘catastrophic’ cyberattack

The Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2023 findings were based on surveys, workshops and interviews with over 300 experts and C-suite executives.

According to a report released here on Wednesday by the World Economic Forum at its Annual Meeting 2023, half of the companies surveyed feel the current landscape is making them re-evaluate the countries in which their organisation does business.

Over 93 per cent of cybersecurity experts and 86 per cent of business leaders believe “a far-reaching, catastrophic cyber event is likely in the next two years” and there is a critical skills gap that is threatening societies and key infrastructure.

The problem is more pronounced in key sectors such as energy utilities, where nearly 25 per cent of cybersecurity experts said they lacked the necessary critical skills to protect their organisations’ operations.

        Aviation industry’s battle with cyber-attacks

The European aviation industry is being increasingly exposed to rising levels of risk, as criminals, hackers and state-sponsored cyber-attackers look to exploit vulnerabilities, cause chaos, and above all, fill their pockets at the expense of the aviation sector, with airlines and the flying public firmly in their sights.
Airlines continue to be an irresistible target for cybercriminals, with around $1bn a year lost from fraudulent websites alone. Add to that data theft, card fraud, air miles fraud, phishing, fake invoices and more, and you have a perfect storm for a part of the industry that continues to reel from the pandemic. Every week, an aviation company suffers a ransomware attack somewhere in the world, with big impacts on productivity and business continuity, let alone data loss and/or costly extortion demands paid in order to restart operations.

61% of all identified cyber-attacks in 2020 targeted airlines, almost twice as much as the two next largest market segments combined (16% manufacturers, 15% airports). The vast majority of these attacks – 95% – were financially motivated: 739 out of 775 incidents. This led to financial loss in 55% of cases, and the leaking or theft of personal data in an additional 34% of cases.
The fake airline ticket business is extremely lucrative: The average value of a purchase is significantly higher than that of a legitimate purchase. “Big Game Hunting“ fraudsters are drawn to the profit margins on airline ticket fraud – where the average cost of a fake ticket, at around $1,930, is almost triple that of a legitimate purchase (on average $606).

Facebook, Instagram will lift ban on bare breasts — but only for trans, non-binary

Facebook and Instagram will allow transgender and non-binary users to flash their bare breasts — but women who were born female and who are eager to “free the nipple” are out of luck, according to Meta’s advisory board.

Meta’s Oversight Board — an independent body of experts which Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has called the company’s “Supreme Court” for content moderation and censorship policies — ordered Facebook and Instagram to lift a ban on images of topless women for anyone who identifies as transgender or non-binary, meaning they view themselves as neither male or female.

Man drives electric Volvo 350 miles to see REAL cost and ‘numbers just didn’t add up’

Steven Smith wanted to find out just how easy it is to charge an electric car and what it costs but found that using the eco-friendly vehicle came with a hefty price tag

The development and demand for electric cars has been growing, but there’s still an ongoing debate about just how worthwhile the more environmentally-friendly vehicles are.

In an effort to find out how easy they are to drive and how the cost compares to petrol or diesel cars, Steven Smith set out on a real-world experiment to put one of the vehicles to the test.

He decided to drive a Volvo C40 Recharge Twin Pro on a 350-mile round trip between his home in Cornwall to Bristol — a journey he regularly completes in his 16-year-old BMW 318 diesel.

Steven said the trip usually costs him “around £50 at today’s diesel prices, assuming 55mpg and 173.9p a litre, which is the price at my nearest supermarket”.

While he usually leaves at around 8am and arrives in Bristol before 11am, only requiring stops if he feels he needs a comfort break, he knew that his trip was likely to be different.

Writing for Wales Online, he said: “I spent a fair bit of time in those few days mulling over strategy and cost. One thing I knew was that the round trip was impossible without charging.

“So I had to factor in a stop on the outward journey for a quick fast charge at a motorway services, then top up (slowly) as much as possible at a relative’s house in Bristol, before stopping again for a boost on the motorway on the way home to avoid the prospect of finding myself stranded somewhere on Bodmin Moor late on a cold, dark, January night.”

Steven set off for his journey with the Volvo 100% charged, which cost approximately £20 to charge at his home — although it’s not actually recommended to charge the car to 100% in order to prolong its battery life.

The Volvo has an on-paper range of 273 miles, but Steven quickly discovered that this didn’t seem to be the case as he only had 180 miles showing for the actual range when he set off with a full battery.

After driving for an hour and 40 minutes, Steven made his first charging stop at Taunton Dean services on the M5, where he arrived with 25% battery and 45 miles remaining.

He waited for 40 minutes for the battery to charge to 60%, costing £19.62 for another 55 miles.

Already, the price was struggling to beat his trusty BMW, which he said would use about a gallon for 55 miles, costing less than £8.

He arrived in Bristol just 30 minutes later than usual at just after 11am, with the car’s charge back down to 35% and at a 60-mile range.

He then charged it “very slowly” using a standard three-pin plug at a relative’s house, which was able to get him another 30 miles for around £5 by 6:30pm.

At 6:45pm he began heading back to Cornwall on 52% charge and a 90-mile range.

Aiming to stop at Exeter services, which was 75 miles away, to use their super-fast chargers Steven began to stress about the car’s range.

He said: “This was going to be tight, but I was determined to make it, rather than potentially having to stop twice on the way home – I knew the super-fast charger would sort me out, if I could get there.

“And, man, the next hour or so was stressful. I arrived – just – at Exeter with 7% charge, 14 miles range showing. I have to admit that the 20 minutes or so before arriving there were not a pleasant feeling, as the range seemingly got tighter and tighter.”

Upon arriving he charged the car for 45 minutes, which brought it up to 84% charge and 140-mile range, but the quick charging came with an eye-watering cost of £43.45.

Finally, he arrived back home at 10:20pm – 50 minutes later than usual, with 25 miles remaining.

Overall, the journey proved to be pretty stressful and costly.

Steven said: “The whole day had been a bit of a brain melt in all honesty, constantly working out how far I could travel and where the best places to stop were on both legs of the journey.

All in all I felt relieved to get home, but also like someone had emptied my wallet while I wasn’t looking.”

With a full charge at home, a fast top-up at services, a slow top-up in Bristol and a super-fast top-up on the way back, the entire journey cost Steven £88.07.

Meanwhile, he calculated that the diesel cost for the same journey would have come to £50.24, “assuming 55mpg and 173.9p per litre”, while the petrol cost would have been £53.28, “assuming 45mpg and 150.9p per litre”.

Concluding his experiment, Steven said: “I wanted this to work, I really did. But after what I hope you will agree was a pretty comprehensive real-world test, I couldn’t make the numbers add up.

“Whichever way I looked at it, the return trip had taken me 90 minutes longer than usual and cost me nearly £40 more. I certainly didn’t expect that.

“Helping to save the planet with zero-emission vehicles comes at a personal cost, it would seem, certainly given the spiralling cost of energy in the past year or so.”

Man discovers it will take 5 days for his Hummer EV to fully charge

A man discovered that his brand new GMC Hummer EV would take five days to fully charge when using a basic home charging setup.

“Time to complete charge: Friday at 8:30 am and range increase is one mile per hour,” he said, making a total charge time of five days.

“And that’s what happens when you try to charge the largest battery truck using a 120 outlet,” he adds, although he does acknowledge that there are ways to fast charge the vehicle to make the charge time a lot quicker.

Steve Koonin made an interesting point similar to what I made on the weekend about gasoline versus electricity.

My point was that my local fuel station with 20 multi-fuel pumps would need something like 400 high powered charging stations to service the same vehicle distance as gasoline pumped.

Steve Koonin put it the other way, stating the a single fuel nozzle is a 10MW power source. Extending this idea, 3 minutes of pump time gives 500kWh. That is the energy you could stuff into a fuel tank in 3 minutes. Burning at about 30% efficiency, is equivalent to 150kWh into a battery. And any waste heat is useful in cold climates.

So 20 pump equivalent charging station (say 400 points), would require a lot of land and something like its own 100MW gas power station or say 1GW of wind generators and a 3GWh battery to match my 20 pump local fuel station.

A single word comes to mind – IMPOSSIBLE. Maybe next century.

would require a lot of land

Probably a lot of baristas as well so the woke BEV drivers could sip coffee while their car gets charged up.

Shippong centre car parks are a logical place for chargers but imagine the mess when one goes up in flames.

      Cars have an obesity problem.

British Parking Association: Weight of electric cars causes collapse of parking garages (19 Jan)

because of a hefty battery pack, EVs are often bulky. An electric car sometimes weighs as much as 500 pounds more than a similar model with a traditional powertrain. This can create dangerous situations, according to the British Parking Association.

Indeed, according to the British Parking Association, there are some 6,000 multi-story parking garages in the United Kingdom, most of which were built to guidelines based on the weight of popular cars from the 1970s.

Chris Whapples, structural engineer and member of the BPA: “When you see the weight of electric cars coming out of the factory, you begin to wonder if the existing standards are adequate. We haven’t had an incident yet, but I suspect it’s only a matter of time. We encourage owners of older parking garages to check.”

Add that parking garages are all going to want EV chargers which will add another weight to stress the supports. Plus massive electricity supply feeders and transformers. Which all means um, heavy increases parking fees.

Former VP Al Gore gives ‘unhinged’ rant about environmental threats including ‘rain bombs’ and boiled oceans during speech at World Economic Forum

Former Vice President Al Gore gave an ‘unhinged’ speech about climate change
Gore raised concerns about ‘rain bombs’ and oceans boiling during the speech
The eco-warrior said humanity will be gravely impacted if changes aren’t made
Gore is in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum
The former VP also voiced support for climate activist Greta Thunberg after her recent arrest in Germany for protesting a coal mine.

The World Economic Forum guest said the situation is more dire than people realize and claimed the current output of greenhouse gases is sending heat into the atmosphere that is equivalent to ‘600,000 Hiroshima’ bombs ever day.

Gore also pointed to ‘xenophobia’ and ‘political authoritarian trends’ as contributors to the ongoing climate issues and increase in refugees.

‘Look at the xenophobia and political authoritarian trends that have come from just a few million refugees,’ the activist said.

‘What about a billion?! We would lose our capacity for self-governance on this world! We have to act,’ he yelled out, referencing how it’s predicted the world will see one billion refugees ‘in this century.’

Gore has spent the better half of the last two decades ‘sounding the alarm’ on how humanity is ‘failing’ when it comes to climate change.

He says the heat created from greenhouse gases is responsible for the climate disasters the world has seen in recent years.

Researchers Find That Eating a Certain Protein Is Related to Developing Depression

A new study shows, in humans, mice, and flies, that elevated plasma levels and a diet rich in the amino acid proline cause a more severe state of depression.

Amino acids are monomers that are the building blocks of protein. When a person consumes food containing protein, the protein is broken down into amino acids by the digestive system. To carry out bodily functions, the body then combines the amino acids in different ways. There are 20 different amino acids, of which 9 are considered essential amino acids because they cannot be made by the body and must come from food.

Newly released research confirms the link between a certain amino acid called proline and depression. Proline is a nonessential amino acid and is found in grass-fed beef, pasture-raised chicken, gelatin, bone broth, organ meats like liver, and cage-free egg yolks. According to the study, a diet rich in proline is linked to an increased risk of depression.

    https://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S1550413122001280

I’d love to know how they test for depression in flies! 🤣

Note how all the products are natural and very healthy.
Proline is a non-essential amino acid and protein precursor with a wide range of uses and benefits.
100g of fatty beef would contain about 1.2g or Proline, or 1.2%.
Interestingly, in comparison, crickets have more like 5%, and as Proline is added to food when raising crickets for food, it’s going to be much higher.
As for depression, some serious beef has the opposite effect for me.😁

Ah- like the Uni lecture a million years ago where it was mentioned that researchers had found anxiety could be caused in non-anxious people by removing an amino acid from their diet. Now I’m too old to remember which one it was!

It was depletion of tryptophan (essential amino acid and obligatory precursor of serotonin) by loading with a truly disgusting 500ml “meal”. Simon Young was the lead researcher. I collaborated with him to test whether loading/depleting tryptophan would improve morphine analgesia (it did not). The trick to getting mood changes with tryptophan depletion was to use subjects with low mood/depressive histories, as Simon demonstrated.

In preparing the “meal” a vast quantity of gelatin is mixed with amino acids. We had a Jewish nurse who said the mixture cooking reminded her of the ovens at Auchwitz. She was much less successful in feeding volunteers than other nurses, with a significant number putting the mixture on their boots. Shows the strength of nonverbal communication.

They did well. 65% of their income came from grants. That made the project priftable for 2021.

The major grant was spent on equipment upgrades so was capital expenditure that was paid for from the grant. It appears they are also adding solar. I expect that it chasing supply diversity.

Electricity sales were down from $801k to $294k. This reduction was primarily a consequence of lower achieved wholesale price – remember this was 2021. It might look better for 2022. One of the problems with intermittents of course is that they often produce in a flooded market with price negative. As more wind plant gets installed, the price goes negative more often.

And they had to depend on a one million dollar subsidy to fix the gear. Then with only $293,000 revenue from power sales, and $570,000 in expenses, they depended on MORE subsidies to stay afloat!
A clear example of wind farms not making money unless heavily subsidised.

Hepburn 2021 Report is an accurate example of the real cost of windmill power to produce very expensive energy.

In 2021 Hepburn Wind produced 6,228 MWh of electricity and received a total revenue of $1,596,000 or $$256 per MWh

While it wasn’t a good year for Hepburn Wind’s generating performance with a CF of 15.5% compared with the 34% scheduled, a major loss was converted into a major profit due to sales, Govt. certificate subsidies and special grants.

Yes our Govt. certainly looks after the billionaire class, pity about these costs being transferred to taxpayers and electricity users.

“Communications Minister Michelle Rowland is planning to introduce laws that will give Australia’s media watchdog the ability to retract information from the world’s most powerful tech companies if they fail to meet standards of a voluntary misinformation and disinformation code of practice.”

I love how they say they will enforce voluntary standards…. only a Govt reading “1984” could think like that!

“In 2021, after the code was introduced, a report by the ACMA found 82 per cent of Australians had experienced misinformation about COVID-19 in the previous 18 months. This was exacerbated again with the proliferation of harmful content when Russia invaded Ukraine.”

So you will end up believing Ukraine won the war while everyone speaks Russian East of the Dniper…

Of course keeping you safe might get tricky with age-inappropriate material, as the age appropriateness varies from country to country..

“tech companies will be required to “remove illegal content” and must prevent children from accessing harmful and age-inappropriate content.”

        https://www.smh.com.au/business/companies/government-introduces-laws-to-protect-australians-from-online-misinformation-20230119-p5cdqg.html

Poor Jo- the moderation on here will have to remove most the content!

I posted yesterday, on the Wednesday open thread, the temp record run for Sydney (Australia) below a max of 30C.

Today, published in a Sydney Newspaper… The Daily Telegraph, 19 Jan 2023. (paywalled)

    What do we get reported?

Instead of using the header: “Sydney records longest run of temperatures below 30c in 140 years!”

    What do we get?

The header reads.. page 3.. “Sydney sizzles in sun before rain returns.”

Ok, the reporter made that statement.
    So should we be concerned?

Should I be scared?… The reporter states: SYDNEY SIZZLES!

    Ok lets see.

The max temp for 18th Jan 2023 was 30.2 degrees celcius.

Understand all, that the highest temp for Sydney is 45.8C, recorded in Jan, 2013.
Now that is slightly higher than the reported “SIZZLING” temp recorded yesterday of 30.2C

I would humbly ask that the reporter undertakes some basic research.

The reporter needs to know that in Sydney (Australia), 2349 days have been recorded above the temp of 30.2C.

If yesterday was sizzling, then how would one describe the 2349 recorded days that were hotter.

I despair by the lack of competence shown by some of those that report in the media.

Why can’t they do basic research?

Why cannot they just state a fact.

and… Why do they hijack an event to segway and employ their sensationalist narrative?

“Sydney is 45.8C, recorded in Jan, 2013.”

Actually, the highest reading recorded by the Obs Hill AWS was 45.3ºC.

There was never an explanation where the extra 0.5ºC came from.

You’re right. The temp hit 45.8C at 2:53pm – it had been 44.9C 4 mins before and was 44.8C 6 mins after. The 45.3C came sometime after 3:00.
Where did that quick surge came from?
BTW, 45.3C only equalled the previous 1939 record.

The same trick as replaced Adelaide’s 1939 record.
A sudden jump (and drop) inside the 10 minute reporting schedule. And one “record” that didn’t effect the gauges to the north and south of the city, let alone the one at the airport 4 kilometres west.

While the Climate Always Has and Always Will Change, There Is no Climate Crisis (Wallace Manheimer)

    Abstract
The emphasis on a false climate crisis is becoming a tragedy for modern civilization, which depends on relible, economic, and environmentally viable energy. The windmills, solar panels and backup batteries have none if these qualities. This falsehood is pushed by a powerful lobby which Bjorn Lomborg has called a climate industrial complex, comprising some scientists, most media, industrialists, and legislators. It has somehow managed to convince many that CO2 in the atmosphere, a gas necessary for life on earth, one which we exhale with every breath, is an environmental poison. Multiple scientific theories and measurements show that there is no climate crisis. Radiation forcing calculations by both skeptics and believers show that the carbon dioxide radiation forcing is about 0.3% of the incident radiation, far less than other effects on climate. Over the period of human civilization, the temperature has oscillated between quite a few warm and cold periods, with many of the warm periods being warmer than today. During geological times, it and the carbon dioxide level have been all over the place with no correlation between them.

Observatory Hill is redundant. The encroachment of UHI has not been incorporated into its temperature readings, and is therefore unreliable at best.

Historical question for Ozzians as fog clears … a bit.

Was there an instance of Australian infants in need of pediatric heart surgery, unavailable in their state, being denied permission to cross state lines due to COVISD restrictions?

Hopefully this is a myth, or lacking qualifying detail.
    Thanks.

Can’t confirm that it was for heart surgery, but yes, a baby or toddler in NSW just south of the QLD border required an urgent operation that was unavailable locally, but could be performed just a few kilometres north at Surfers Paradise.

Anna Ponygirl, our resident dictator, refused permission for the child to cross the border, saying that “Queensland hospitals were for Queenslanders”.

Hasn’t hit the wife or me yet, the girls are both double-vaxxed.

Just catching up on some reading – Cannot guess (maybe C.L.) who penned as guest author the Flat White article on Me-Again and the Half-wit Prince but is was a beautifully written so if I can share it and apologies if it’s been shared before:

    Spare … us all
    Flat White
    9 January 2023
    10:00 AM

I cannot help but think of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

Her long reign was crowned by stoicism, her belief in doing a public duty as well as she could, and living a private life where possible. And keeping it private.

It is for her that I almost grieve again.

A novel about an extraordinary life and its challenges was Elizabeth’s to write. Gold bound. But not for a moment would she have countenanced such a script.

Instead, it was her grandson, Harry, who put pen to paper about a story of privilege without power.

Spare is a book about ignorance on so many levels. Ignorance of the role of the Monarchy. Ignorance of the way the Royal Family works. Ignorance of the succession process. Ignorance of the media. Ignorance of the Taliban and its memory for targets. Ignorance of real hardship.

Spare is a book about jealously and a child who has failed to deal with loss. There are boys in every country who have lost a mother, and mothers who have lost boys. They understand the powerful grief of this and find safe storage for it in their lives.

They don’t look to blame or to finger point. Most look for calm and seek the joy of memories, celebrate the learnings and the privilege of having that person in their life.

Spare is the notation of a man who is California dreaming. A man who has seemingly adopted the self-obsessed, self-centred, victim-driven ways of a person who doesn’t understand that his lot in life, even on a bad day, is beyond the fortune of almost all others.

He has sold his soul and family sanctity for a dime: proud commodities gone and non-returnable.

This is a man who claims to want his family, privacy, and the institution of the British monarchy, yet has trashed his family and laundered their private rights. The standard he has set for his own privacy involves cameras, book deals, a place on centre stage, and a megaphone for his wife.

It seems what he really wants, or maybe what his actress wife wants, is for him to be King and Me-Again to be Queen.

That they will be neither, is the real rub. They are royal support crew. Superfluous to official need.

Unlike all others in the generational ranks of the family, Harry seems unable to understand that the rungs on the family ladder mean something. That they want titles from the institution they abhor, and into which they lob churlish and childish grenades, is beyond comprehension.

And now – for all that we know – why would we want Harry in charge?

Why would we want a drug-taking man-child who seeks advice from a medium channelling the ghosts of his mother to be the constitutional leader to whom we bow? That said, his wife could curtsey to him in ridicule and ignorance as she did the Queen. Meghan: mocking one day, shocking the next. Did the American think that by marrying Harry she would become a Royal Kardashian celebrity with a palace and a crown?

The couple’s adjustment to life outside the palace shadows that of former King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, another American divorcee. It took them some time to understand the implications of their decision to settle on the outside.

Some would have us cheer on Harry and Meghan, despite them swimming in the very shallow end of the pool of decorum and respect. They are victims only of their own selfishness.

In trashing his family in the vilest of ways, Harry has broken what could be most fundamental of human needs between people: trust.

It is the human thread that unites and enables – be it within family, business or even politics. Soldiers are also trained in trust.

Trust is the commodity that raises us up, takes us further, unites, and binds.

If the world learns something from this book, it is about trust.
