Shultse Tied for Third, Pack in 12th After Second Round of The Fresno State Classic Suspended Due to Darkness

FRESNO, Calif. - After the second round of the Fresno State Classic was suspended due to darkness, Nevada Women's Golfer Anna Shultse found herself tied for third on the individual leaderboard at -3 after a spectacular first day of play, leading the way for the Pack heading into Tuesday.

Competition was put on pause Monday evening, as the conditions became too dark for some golfers to complete the second round. Shultse was one of the few competitors that managed to complete 36 holes Monday and she had outstanding performance for Nevada, carding rounds of 69-73, as she completed the day two shots below par and tied for third overall.

As a team, the Pack completed the first day of competition in 12th place. Nevada had an exceptional first round, carding a score of 291 (+3), as they finished the first set of 18 holes in fourth place. The Pack struggled to reciprocate their first-round performance in the afternoon round, and Nevada was +18 with all five golfers completing somewhere between 16-18 holes.

Shultse was tremendous for the Pack, opening her day with the second-best single round score of her career (69). Beginning the first round on the 10th hole, Shultse commenced the round with four consecutive birdies. The sophomore proceeded to have a sensational stretch of play over the next six holes, recording four birdies and two pars. Shultse went on to earn seven pars and one bogey over the final eight holes, and she finished the first round tied for first place.

Shultse was the lone Wolf Pack golfer to complete all 18 holes in the second round, and her score of 73 (+1) has her tied for third heading into Tuesday. Shultse tallied 15 pars, two bogeys, and one birdie in the afternoon round.

Gabby Kano finished Monday second in the Wolf Pack lineup and tied for 33rd overall. Kano completed 17 holes in the second round and will pick up where she left off Tuesday morning before beginning the third round. Kano carded a 74 (+2) across the first set of 18 holes and the sophomore was three shots over par in the second round when play was suspended. Kano recorded 14 pars, three bogeys, and one birdie throughout the first round.

Freshman Nikki Chindavong also completed 17 holes in the second round, and she concluded the day tied for 70th at +9. Chindavong recorded a score of 74 (+2) in the first round and she was seven shots over par in the second round with one hole remaining.

Leah John and Payton Lovisa rounded out the Nevada lineup, finishing the day tied for 77th on the individual leaderboard at +10. John opened the day with a first-round score of 74 (+2) and the fifth-year senior was +8 through 16 holes when play was paused in the second round. Lovisa carded a 75 (+3) in the first round and she was +7 through 16 holes in the second round.

Competing as individual participants, Raesa Sheikh and Kaitlin Fleiner finished tied for 77th and tied for 106th, respectively. Sheikh carded a 77 (+5) in the first round and was +5 through 17 holes in the second round. Fleiner shot back-to-back rounds of 80, as she completed the day at +16.

Golfers will finish round two on Tuesday morning, before continuing play into round three to close out competition at the Fresno State Classic.
