Like many locals, I avoid Waikiki like the plague. Too crowded, too little parking, too expensive, too many tourists, just too… much. As I was elbowing my way through packs of tourists in International Marketplace and out on to Kal?kaua’s sidewalks, I will admit that I was not in the most receptive or enthusiastic state of mind when I finally arrived at the entrance to ‘Auana, located in the Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel. But as soon as I entered the intimate 784-seat theatre, I was instantly transported to another time and place, like some sort of dream realm of a Hawai’i of yesteryear—distant, but not forgotten. -

SPPARC has substantially redesigned its plans to create the first European base of Cirque du Soleil in the heart of London’s West End following feedback from members of the public. The practice is said to have “completely reworked” its proposals to redevelop the former Odeon Covent Garden cinema at 135-149 Shaftesbury Avenue, which were submitted to Camden council last year. -
