Former Bush Official Urges more US China Climate Change Cooperation

Essay by Eric Worrall

The CCP mouthpiece China Daily has quoted former US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson speaking at a Chinese sponsored conference, urging more cooperation with China to defeat Climate Change. But the FBI sees Chinese technology espionage and attempts to influence public opinion as a grave threat to US security.

China-US cooperation crucial in climate change fight

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2022-06-20 16:41

China and the United States may be facing competition in many fields, but the global fight against climate change offers necessary, crucial opportunities for cooperation between the two sides, analysts and experts said.

There’s no doubt that the countries are strategic competitors and we’re competitors across all the domains ā€¦ technology, finance, the economy ā€¦ but despite that, we still have common goals and shared interests. We need to have peace, a world order and a stable climate,” former US treasury secretary Henry Paulson said at an international forum hosted by the Beijing-based Center for China and Globalization think tank on Monday.

The presence of major Chinese property developer China Vanke, led by its founder Wang Shi, in the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP26, in Glasgow, Scotland, was also an encouraging example of how involvement by Chinese enterprises could contribute significantly to the global environmental priorities, Paulson said.

To better facilitate cooperation and collaboration between China and the US ā€¦ we have to set aside conflicts of interests; biodiversity and conservation are equally important as climate change issues,” Wang said.

“We have to take the initiative in preserving and protecting nature together, to explore ways for common development.”

“We need peace, we need prosperity, we need a global order that works,” Paulson said. “We need to save our planet because climate change is not a threat only to economic security but also global stability. We have a saying in the US that ‘necessity is the mother of invention’, I happen to believe that necessity is going to bring us together,” he said.

Henry Paulson served under President George Bush (Jnr) from 2006 – 2009.

I personally find it shocking that someone like Paulson would urge more cooperation with China, given the FBI has a web page dedicated to “The China Threat”, detailing China’s alleged plan to dominate the world by stealing US technology secrets, and by using covert means to influence US public opinion, which in my opinion likely includes getting their hooks into powerful US influencers.

The China Threat

The counterintelligence and economic espionage efforts emanating from the government of China and the Chinese Communist Party are a grave threat to the economic well-being and democratic values of the United States.

Confronting this threat is the FBIā€™s top counterintelligence priority.

To be clear, the adversary is not the Chinese people or people of Chinese descent or heritage. The threat comes from the programs and policies pursued by an authoritarian government.

The Chinese government is employing tactics that seek to influence lawmakers and public opinion to achieve policies that are more favorable to China.

At the same time, the Chinese government is seeking to become the worldā€™s greatest superpower through predatory lending and business practices, systematic theft of intellectual property, and brazen cyber intrusions.

Chinaā€™s efforts target businesses, academic institutions, researchers, lawmakers, and the general public and will require a whole-of-society response. The government and the private sector must commit to working together to better understand and counter the threat.

Made in Beijing: The Plan for Global Market Domination

Through interviews with FBI agents and executives of victim companies, this film aims to help the private sector recognize the urgent need to protect their intellectual property against sustained and ongoing industrial espionage by the Peopleā€™s Republic of China (PRC). ā€œThe greatest long-term threat to our nationā€™s information and intellectual property, and to our economic vitality, is the counterintelligence and economic espionage threat from China.ā€

Is former Bush official Henry Paulson so naive about the China threat, that he hasn’t read the FBI page? Or does he think addressing climate change is a greater priority than the risk of more cooperation, which could open opportunities for hostile Chinese espionage to gut US exceptionalism?

Note I am not accusing Paulson of anything nefarious, it is entirely plausible that he is one of those people who thinks climate change is a crisis which trumps all other considerations. Which could be why the Chinese Communist Party invited Paulson to speak at their conference.

Whatever the explanation, in my opinion the very worst thing the USA could do right now is follow the advice of the CCP propaganda division, and offer China more cooperation, more access to US technology and greater opportunities to influence the US public.

You don’t have to take my word for it, read the FBI China threat page and watch the video.

The Bushes had a fair number of total squishes in their administrations, so finding one is not unusual. One can only imagine how bad it would have been if Gore or Kerry had won.

My question is why would G.W. Bush be best friends with a scoundrel like Bill Clinton? George doesn’t seem to have any principles when it comes to his buddy, Bill.

How can you hang out with scum like this, George?

What do you talk about around the kitchen table?

Do you discuss how Hillary (and Bill) tried to undermine the democracy of the United States by usng the power of the federal government to try to destroy political opponents? Do you support using the federal government to go after political rivals, George?

What a disappointment you are, George. You have lost all credibility with me. And attacking Trump just helps the forces that want to destroy the United States.

Do you want to destroy the United States, George? Your actions would say “yes” to me. I suppose there’s a possiblity that you are just *really* stupid and impressionable. It doesn’t matter. Your stupidity, for whatever reason, harms the United States. Thanks for nothing.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of clueless Republican elites, especially when it comes to CO2 phobia.

I haven’t heard one Republican elite challenge the basic premise that CO2 is the control knob of the Earth’s temperature. They proceed as if this is an established fact. The only pushback they mount is an economic argument.

As a result, the alarmists have the field just about all to themselves in Washington DC.

The Temperature Data Manipulators have done tremendous damage to the economies of the Western Democracies with their lies about the Earth’s temperatures. And the damage will continue because the lies continue.

I wonder if Mann and Jones and Hansen are proud of themselves.

The current deteriorating condition of the Western Democracies is your handiwork, fellas. You lied us to this point. With help from the radical Left who saw political gain in demonizing CO2, and from the Leftwing Media who carry the water for the radical Left.

Besides its direct espionage against the US, China ignores US requests to help put pressure on Putin to end his illegal war against Ukraine . . . and former US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson thinks we should “cooperate” with the b@stards.

Yeah, right.

Si vis pacem, para bellum – If you want peace, prepare for war.

– Flavius Vegetius Renatus c.400AD.

Still true today. Russia thought it could knock over Ukraine in a few days. If they had known how well Ukraine would defend itself (with help from friends) would they have invaded? We can’t know for sure of course, but they might have thought twice about it. And if the three Baltic states were not part of NATO, ie. prepared for war, then surely one or more of them would have been invaded by Russia again. It is no coincidence that the country which Russia did invade recently, Ukraine, was not in NATO. Then there’s Taiwan. All the mealy-mouthed nonsense spouted by western nations and their spineless failure to recognise Taiwan in a vain attempt to avoid upsetting communist China have made Taiwan’s situation worse. A clear statement years ago that Taiwan became an independent country under Chiang Kai-shek might have gone some way to sorting out the situation, but the reality now is that Taiwan must be defended or it goes under. If Taiwan was not obviously quite well prepared, it is inconceivable that China would not have invaded already.

Hong Kong was always recognized as Chinese territory. Britain had a 100 year lease on it. When the lease expired, it was returned to China.
There is no comparison between the situations of Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Some murderous dictators can be deterred, and some cannot. One needs to be prepared for those who are not deterred. Being prepared doesn’t guarantee peace, but it goes a long way toward guaranteeing survival.

A strong deterrence is desirable, but thereā€™s a huge difference between maintaining deterrence and instigating conflict.

Paulson used to be in charge of Goldman Sachs and was instrumental in getting the government to bail out reckless large banks that should by all rights have gone bankrupt during the financial crisis of 2007-8. In other words, nobody should trust this snake about anything given his appalling tenure as Treasury secretary.

Around that time, 2007, i was still on facebook, and in touch with several of my long time liberal friends.

I criticized Obama on his global warming support, and noted that Obama had big connections to Goldman Sachs. I think GS was part of setting up Chicago Carbon Exchange. Obama had some link to that.

A friend said “Obama does not have links to GS.” I said, “just use Google.”

This was the time I was figuring out my fellow “liberals” were not just in favor of things such as good public education and protecting the Little Guy from Big Business and so on, but they had some weird cult view of the world.

With White Nationalist NAZI around every corner. But I am clear headed and informed now.

Obama could have done a lot regarding the sub-prime housing loan crisis.

I guess it was a win-win for the “Liberals.” Promote easy borrowing, sure to lead first to escalating prices, and then to a lot of foreclosures.

Take credit for helping lower income and less financially capable people into homes. Blame the banks and evil capitalists when prices go high, the banks figure out ways to bundle off bad loans, and the market crashes.

Bail out the banks, too. And tell your voters to vote for you again because there are White Nationalist NAZI everywhere – more than the Boogeyman!

Hank and his cronies engineered paper credit default swaps against subprime mortgage bonds and they blew up, plunging the world economy into crisis. Then Hank robbed the US Treasury to bail out the hedgers and predatory banks, causing a major stock market crash. As a result, O’Bummer was elected and the Treasury raid became an avalanche of debt we have never recovered from.

Hank was instrumental in instigating the spiralling decline of this country and the entire Western World. Now he’s a toadie for Red China and Davos. He’s easily one of the most evil dwids that ever lived.

The banks were not to blame; it was the non-bank mortgage lenders that made the phony loans to folks who had no hope of repaying them. Those phony loans were then securitized and the securities were given favorable ratings by bonding agencies so they could be passed off to unsuspecting investors.

The banks were very much to blame. The non-bank mortgage lenders were funded by commercial banks that created the funding (money) out of thin air. Q: Why do banks periodically make the same systematic errors in money creation? A: The Federal Reserve.

Certainly we all need to have something plainly etched in our minds that no charming wishful thinking can alter: Chinese communists have no more basis in their founding personal/community operating principles for anything corresponding to your own care to “Love your neighbor as yourself” than did those conducting the ‘Holocaust’, the ‘Bataan Death March’, or the systematic ‘Katyn massacre’ of 22,000 Polish prisoners who just might some day resist the intentions of their Soviet captors in that last World War of ours. So expecting of them nothing better won’t disappoint, while ignoring this very distinction promotes your bliss-less peril!
