This is a lovely old picture of Rodwell Station, Weymouth, in bygone days.
A pre-1914 view of Rodwell station on the Weymouth-Portland branch is shown after its reconstruction with a passing loop during 1907.
A GWR saddle tank awaits departure with a Weymouth-bound train.
Posters on the station advertise excursions to Swanage.
To the left of the station flower plots can be seen and the station was a frequent winner of the Best Kept Station competition.
Although not visible in the photograph, a greenhouse was situated on the platform which no doubt helped the station’s success.
These flowerbeds lasted until the Second World War when they were used for vegetable cultivation when station staff bred rabbits to eke out the meat rations.
The site of Rodwell Station is now public footpath the Rodwell Trail, a far cry from the busy station that used to stand there.
