One dead and another left in serious condition after roof collapse at Captain Jack's Restaurant construction site
One person is dead and another remains in serious condition after after a collapse at a construction site in Naples on Tuesday.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and the Naples Fire Department were called to Captain Jack's Restaurant following reports of a building collapse.
The collapse happened at a large-scale construction project on the same property as the Naples Marina and Captain Jack's restaurant.
Just one day after the collapse, 44-year-old Shane Malloy was pronounced deceased, Maine Medical Center spokeswoman Caroline Cornish confirmed with WMTW of Malloy's status.
Malloy was pulled free from the structure with the help of a nearby forklift on Tuesday.
Another crew member, 44-year-old Harold Collins, was hit by the roof but not pinned. Collins remains in serious condition.
According to officials, a roof was being assembled at the ground level at the time of the accident. They said the structure was being elevated around six feet into the air with construction supports.
When the structure collapsed, authorities said there were workers underneath the roof and on top of it.
According to authorities, other crew members were involved in the accident and were not harmed.
Maine OSHA is investigating the collapse.
