City Theatre and Pittsburgh Public Theater are co-hosts of the 2024 spring meeting of the League of Resident Theatres, being held starting today, May 1-3, in Downtown Pittsburgh
The gathering at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Downtown Pittsburgh represents more than 125 theater professionals from 64 of the largest regional nonprofit theaters in the country.
Pittsburgh was originally slated to host the LORT meeting in October 2020, before it was postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.
With a focus on philanthropy and fundraising, said a joint City-Public press release, “the meeting will feature various topics, themes and panel discussions, including special guests from national foundations, funders and field-wide service organizations.”
“LORT is so grateful to City Theatre and Pittsburgh Public for hosting our semi-annual convening in beautiful downtown Pittsburgh,” said Adam Siegel, president of LORT. “These conferences are critical to the on-going success of our association. We gather to share best practices in the field and to provide support to our member theaters spread across the country. Pittsburgh is the perfect place for all of us to come together – a lively downtown with a robust arts sector, walkable, and wonderful hotels and restaurants.”
First established in 1966 with 26 members, the League of Resident Theatres is the largest professional theater association of its kind in the United States. LORT theaters collectively issue more Equity contracts to actors than Broadway and commercial tours combined, and represent one of the largest employers of directors and designers.
