Rep. Mike Kelly, a Chicago Democrat, declared victory in the 15th Illinois House District on election night, Nov. 8, and is poised to serve his first full term in Springfield, unofficial election results show. The district contains parts of Morton Grove, Niles and Chicago.

Kelly, a Chicago firefighter who was appointed to his seat in November 2021 to replace retiring Rep. John D’Amico, took 57.32% of the vote to Republican challenger Mark Alber’s 42.68%, unofficial results show.

Kelly declared victory just after 9 p.m. with 97% of precincts reporting.

In a statement to Pioneer Press, Kelly thanked his constituents and said he looked forward to improving public safety and public schools.

In June, he fought off a primary challenge from Argonne National Laboratory business transformation leader and community activist Michael Rabbitt.

Campaign records show Kelly ended the third quarter of the year with $1,107.35 in the bank while Albers closed the quarter with $6,543.10. However,Kelly raised $21,176 and spent $22,584.09, while Albers raised $480.30 and spent $475.01.
