Good morning Reds, and welcome to the ECHO's Liverpool news and transfers blog.

Liverpool may not be in Premier League action until Sunday afternoon when they face Southampton, but that hasn't stopped reports in the media from linking the Reds with a host of players ahead of the summer transfer window.

Mason Mount has courted interest from Manchester United with the Red Devils lodging a £55m bid according to reports. However, it has been claimed that Chelsea want £85m. According to The Athletic, meanwhile, Mount would 'lean towards' United if he were to leave Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have reportedly listed Andy Robertson as a summer target.

Wolves captain Ruben Neves is today the latest midfielder to be touted with a summer switch to Anfield, with reports claiming Anfield officials tried to secure a move for the Portugal international in January but their efforts were rebuffed by the West Midlands outfit.

Elsewhere, Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi has admitted he would hold no grudges if either Alexis Mac Allister or Moises Caicedo departed the club this summer, with the Reds one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in the Argentine.

Too, Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven has been touted as a potential target for Liverpool this summer as the club look set to appoint Jorg Schmadtke on a short-term basis.

Jamie Carragher names two ideal signings for Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool to sign Alexis Mac Allister and Chelsea star Mason Mount this summer as Jurgen Klopp continues to hatch plans to revamp their engine room. Here's what Carragher said during a chat with Anfield Wrap;

If we brought Mac Allister and Mount in I'd be delighted with that. I definitely want us to bring a defensive midfield player in, as well, because Mount and Mac Allister are more offensive midfield players. I don't think that our problem is going forward, our problem is defensively.

Gareth Southgate explains TAA recall for England

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson have both been named in the England squad. Here's what Gareth Southgate said about the decision to recall Alexander-Arnold;

Trent's a super footballer and he's playing in a slightly different role. He has always been in advanced areas on the ball - he's just a bit more central now. It's interesting for us and an option - and something I have spoken to him about over recent weeks. We are looking forward to working with Trent.

Jurgen Klopp gets his wish as Jorg Schmadtke arrival signals big Liverpool change

In more than a few ways, the imminent arrival of Jorg Schmadtke represents a change in direction at Liverpool.

But as the Reds approach what is being widely described as a critically important summer transfer window, the expected appointment of the German as sporting director is entirely in-keeping with what is hoped will be a fresh chapter of the Jurgen Klopp story at Anfield.

Liverpool's two previous sporting directors - the vaunted Michael Edwards and current incumbent, the impressive Julian Ward - spent over a decade each with the Reds in various roles before taking charge of what must be considered one of the most demanding off-field roles in European football.

Odds slashed on Mason Mount to Manchester United

Liverpool remain favourites to sign Mason Mount but Manchester United's emergence in the pursuit has saw odds slashed in the move to Old Trafford.

bet365’s Steve Freeth said:“The race for Mason Mount’s signature looks to be on with so much uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge.

“We’ve seen his price to still be a Chelsea player at the end of the Transfer Window drift from 6/4 to over the last few days, with Manchester United shortening into from an opening show of 22/1 after reports of the Red Devils preparing a swoop for the English midfielder.”

"The impending arrival of Mauricio Pochettino could see the odds shift once again if the Argentine sees the former Champions League winner as a key component amongst the heavily populated Chelsea squad.

"However, a rumoured £55 million package for the midfielder has seen the spotlight hover above Old Trafford and look at whether Mount will be switching from blue to red in the upcoming transfer window."

"We don't have a midfielder that can distribute the ball like Trent - Mac Allister can"

Jose Enrique believes Alexis Mac Allister can come in and help Trent Alexander-Arnold move back into his old role.

The Liverpool full-back has been reinvigorated after his positional change and has provided a breath of fresh air going forward for the Reds.

Speaking to SafeBettingSites: "I don't understand why people are so obsessed with Trent in this position though. Arteta has done it with Oleksandr Zinchenko the whole season, Pep has done it with Cancelo before he went to Bayern Munich. John Stones has also played as a midfielder coming in from his right back or centre back role.

"I like Trent there in that role when we have the ball because right now we don't have a midfielder that can distribute the ball like Trent can. Alexis Mac Allister can do that if he comes here because he has that quality. I think Trent and Kevin De Bruyne are the best right-footed players in the league and top two in the world.

"I like his role, but at the end of the day he is a right back. He has been the best for two or three years in that role. I like the vision he has but his position is a right back.’"

Arthur Melo sends two-word message ahead of final Liverpool chance

Departing midfielder Arthur Melo has sent a two-word message ahead of what will be his final opportunity to make his Premier League debut for Liverpool.

The Brazilian joined the Reds on loan from Juventus on transfer deadline day last August as Jurgen Klopp lost a number of midfielders to injury. However, a 13-minute substitute appearance against Napoli in the Champions League last September remains his only appearance for the club.

A torn thigh muscle suffered in training back in October required surgery and would rule the Brazil international out until February. By the time of his return, Liverpool’s midfield options were no longer depleted.

Liverpool get major Alexis Mac Allister transfer boost after honest Roberto De Zerbi admission

Liverpool's prospects of landing Brighton and Hove Albion phenomenon Alexis Mac Allister have been handed a significant boost with manager Roberto De Zerbi insisting he would bear no grudge if the midfielder decided to leave the Amex this summer.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Wednesday's game against Manchester City, the Italian provided an authentic response when asked about the Seagulls' prospect of losing two of their star performers during the off-season.

"They can have the possibility to change [clubs] because they deserve to play in another level," said De Zerbi. "I don't know what Tony [Bloom, Brighton owner] can decide. But now we can offer them the possibility to play in Europe because our level is bigger now. We can offer them one possibility more.

"When I work, I think for myself, I think for my club - but I think still for the players. The players have one career, one life and we can't decide for them."

Former goalkeeper Brad Jones announces retirement

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones has announced his retirement from professional football.

He made 27 appearances for the Reds during his five-year stint at Anfield, he most notably made an important penalty save in a thrilling win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Throughout his spell on Merseyside, he was largely deputy to Pepe Reina.

In a Twitter post, the Australian said:

"The time has come to hang up my gloves and bring to an end this long journey that has taken me all over the world for the last 25 years doing what I could only dream of as a young boy in Perth.

"I’ve had the privilege to play alongside some of the best players in the world and work with some fantastic coaches that have helped me along the way. To the fans of my former clubs, I thank you for your support. It is amazing to think that I have been a part of some historic moments for some of them.

"I have to thank my wife Dani, who has had to make many sacrifices, moving wherever my career took us. And also my three children who have now lived in four countries and have always adapted and made the decisions to move so much easier.

"Unfortunately, my time at Perth Glory was disrupted with niggles and what was originally thought to be a fairly small injury has now kept me out for over a year, and ultimately put an end to my playing days.

"I hope to continue to stay involved in football in some capacity in the future and continue to part of the beautiful game.

"Thank you

"Brad

Romeo Lavia admired by Liverpool

Romeo Lavia is on the radar of Chelsea and Liverpool according to GOAL's Neil Jones.

Southampton signed the 19-year-old last summer but with their relegation confirmed, his future at St Mary's remains uncertain.

Manchester City, where the Saints signed him from, bagged £10m last summer but are also said to be looking to bring the Belgian international back to the Etihad.

Jones reported: "The Belgium international has made a big impact on the south coast following his £10 million (£12.5m) move from Manchester City last summer. In a struggling team, Lavia’s performances have been a rare source of encouragement for supporters and, accordingly, he is attracting attention from some of the country’s top clubs.

"Liverpool, whom Southampton will face at St Mary’s on Sunday in their final game of the campaign, are among the admirers, with Lavia looking to end his first full campaign in senior football on a high, and underline his potential as a star of the future."

United 'launch' £55m bid for Mason Mount

Manchester United are launching a £55m bid for Mason Mount according to the Daily Mail.

The Chelsea midfielder is entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and is courting interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and now the Red Devils.

According to the Mail, Old Trafford sources have indicated that talks over a move for the 24-year-old are set to commence.

Andy Robertson 'eyed' by Real Madrid

Real Madrid have reportedly placed Andy Robertson on their list of potential summer reinforcements.

Los Blancos' defensive options have been hindered this season amid injuries which has saw France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga filter in to play as left-back.

Carlo Ancelotti's side are said to be monitoring a number of full-back options with Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies among them.

However, in a shocking development as per the Daily Mail, Liverpool's Andy Robertson is on their list of summer reinforcements.

Liverpool cast their net elsewhere from Matheus Nunes

Matheus Nunes is no longer a priority for Liverpool, according to Ben Jacobs.

The Wolves midfielder became one of the early midfielders linked with a move to Anfield but a January move wasn't feasible for the Reds after FIFA ruled deny players from signing for two or more clubs in one season.

It's now emerged Liverpool are targeting the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Mason Mount but in his Caught Offside column, Jacobs says the former Sporting CP midfielder is not on the radar for chiefs at Anfield.

He said: "Matheus Nunes is another player to watch this summer. Earlier this year he looked quite likely to leave for Liverpool this summer, but he’s no longer their priority with plenty of other midfielders on the market.

"Julen Lopetegui would love to try and keep him, but it’s a long window and I still expect Premier League interest."

Mason Mount: Liverpool remain front-runners

While the talk of Alexis Mac Allister seemingly ramps up, there has been little conversation surrounding Mason Mount.

However, our colleagues at Football London have reported that the Reds remain front-runners for his signature.

It has been said that nothing has changed in their negotiations to extend the England internationals' contract with a number of issues to resolve before an agreement can be close.

As a result, the Reds are said to be front of the queue after doing the most groundwork so far but their London rivals Arsenal also hold a keen interest.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been one of the standout performers on the South Coast this campaign and has helped the Seagulls secure a place in next season's Europa Conference League, with De Zerbi's side having secured a top-seven finish with two games of the Premier League season remaining.

Such form has led to Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City showing firm interest in the 2022 World Cup winner, with the Reds citing the Argentine as a primary target ahead of an extensive midfield overhaul this summer.

After making the decision to abandon their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham due to the eye-watering finances any deal would require, Anfield officials have instead prioritised the arrival of at least two midfielders this summer.

Chelsea's Mason Mount and Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch are two players who are currently under consideration on Merseyside, while Mac Allister is believed to be a top target.

And Liverpool's chances of prising the midfielder away from the South Coast this summer appear to have been handed a major boost with De Zerbi admitting Mac Allister and team-mate Moises Caicedo deserve to be playing at "another level" after their performances in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool named as interested party in Wolves captain Ruben Neves

Liverpool are interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Ruben Neves this summer, according to Football Insider.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who has spent the past six years at the Molineux, is expected to leave the West Midlands outfit this summer and the Reds are reported to have a "concrete" interest.

According to the report, Anfield officials tried to strike a move for the midfielder in the January transfer window only to have their efforts rebuffed from those at the Molineux. It is claimed that La Liga champions Barcelona are one of the frontrunners for Neves' signature, but Liverpool will be "lurking" if the Spanish giants are unable to sanction a deal.

Good morning Reds, and welcome to the ECHO's Liverpool news and transfers blog.

Liverpool are not in Premier League action until Sunday afternoon when they face Southampton, but that hasn't stopped the national media linking the Reds with a host of players ahead of the summer transfer window.
