Keep flirting. Please.

Summary:

"You have got to be kidding!" Arthur nearly spat. "You were just camping out and spying on me and Eames, Mal?"

Mal got to her feet and regretted it because it hurt, but damn it, she wasn't going to hide. Again.

Notes:

I know it's been a very long time since I wrote one of these, but I'm putting together a writing sample portfolio for my Camp NaNo. I'm not writing anything fun.

On the first day I wanted to look something up to make me laugh, so I went on the InspiroBot site. I looked at a few quotes and saw this one. The idea sounded really fun, but it took me several days to find the extra time to write it.

Please enjoy more nonsense!

Work Text:

"Oh...I didn't realize you'd be here now, Eames."

"That's me, Arthur. An unexpected surprise. Early, at that."

Mal clenched her fists and waited at her hiding spot where she had the best view of the open warehouse floor. She could now see them perfectly!

She heard Arthur's not exactly annoyed scoff. She couldn't hold back her smile. This was going to be good.

From her spot she could see the way they were coming closer together; Arthur leaving his laptop case on his desk and Eames sauntering over, still smirking at the point man.

"I didn't realize that I'd get to spend some more time with you," Eames was saying.

"We're due to memorize Cobb's layout this afternoon. We'll spend plenty of time together." But of course he caught what Eames meant.

Mal refused to utter a pleased sigh. Ugh, why did they have to be so cute? They were perfect together! Their flirting was giving her life!

"But I meant more time as in extra time, darling! We could go for a walk, grab a coffee..."

The forger moved closer and smiled, leaning in as if he was going to tell Arthur a secret. Mal leaned forwards expectantly too and noticed how her back and legs were aching from maintaining her crouched position. But this was worth it!

"I could push you up against a lamppost and kiss you properly," Eames said eagerly, watching for Arthur's reaction.

Arthur's smile in return was slow and perfect. "Are we talking before or after we walk and fetch coffee? I can't imagine a kiss against a lamppost being very comfortable if either of us is carrying a tray of hot drinks."

"I wouldn't dare kiss you if either of us were holding hot coffee or tea." Eames said with a shrug, "But I would still think you're hot."

Arthur couldn't help himself, and he laughed in response to the horrible line. But Mal was smiling so hard as she listened to the flirting. Arthur was a sucker for some of Eames's terrible lines, even if he would never admit it to a soul!

And then, they were probably going to kiss and she could wait for them to leave so she could stretch out her poor aching muscles-

"Mal? What are you doing down there?" Dom suddenly asked in confusion as he entered the room from the doorway closest to Mal's hiding spot, carrying a box full of the supplies he used to make his models. Mal froze in her spot behind the unoccupied desk and the little mountain of warehouse materials.

Of course the second Dom spoke, Arthur and Eames separated.

"You have got to be kidding!" Arthur nearly spat. "You were just camping out and spying on me and Eames, Mal?"

Mal got to her feet and regretted it because it hurt, but damn it, she wasn't going to hide. Again.

"Keep flirting." Taking in the looks on their faces, Mal added, "Please."

The two men stared.

"What do you say? What is it, Dominic? Something about sweets?"

Dom was staring at her in surprise still, but they were married and he made several vows to her. None of them suggested he cover for her when she was caught snooping on their forger and point man's blossoming love life, but whatever. He loved her a lot and this wasn't the craziest thing he'd seen her do in the name of love.

"Pretty please," Dom recited for his wife. "With sugar on top."

Mal's smile brightened and she turned to look at Arthur and Eames again! "Yes, exactly! Keep flirting, pretty please! With sugar on top!"

Her fellow dreamsharers stared at her, then glanced at each other.

Finally they nodded.

"Though you breached our privacy, I kind of think this is a little endearing. How about you, Arthur?" Eames asked.

Arthur looked at Mal and appeared to be weighing a difficult decision. Then he sighed and said to Mal, "Don't hide like that. It creeps me out that you'd slink around like that just to catch me and Eames flirting."

Then Arthur turned to Eames and said, "Okay, we're going on that walk now!" He spoke softly to Eames as they walked away together, and Mal tried to follow after a little bit.

She was certain she heard something like "lamppost" and "better kiss me twice, damn it" before they made it through the door.

Mal was set on heading out, but Dom had put down his box so he could reach for her to prevent her from following after them.

"Take it easy," Dom advised. "Arthur thinking you're lovely is only going to get you so far!"
