The UN says an estimated 900 million people, or more than one in ten of the world’s population, will be affected by rising sea levels around the world.
- The UN’s Secretary General has warned the Security Council of rising sea levels.

The UN has warned of an incoming mass exodus from rising sea levels caused by climate change.
Mega-cities on every continent will face serious impacts, including Lagos, Bangkok, Mumbai, Shanghai, London, Buenos Aires and New York, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the Security Council.
Mr Guterres said rising waters will cause a new type of conflict where people, companies or countries will be fighting for land.
“We would witness a mass exodus of entire populations on a biblical scale, and we would see ever-fiercer competition for fresh water, land and other resources,” he said.

My question – how can anyone take these sea level rise claims seriously?
People have been battling the sea and winning for thousands of years.
Take the city of Venice, Italy. Venice began as fishermen living on impoverished, difficult to reach islands, separated by water from the barbarian chaos of the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Refugees from the mainland began arriving en-masse in the year 584AD, after the Lombard barbarian hordes invaded Italy.
Ever since the mass settlement of Venice, Venetians have been battling the sea and winning, and turned their humble islands of fishing shacks into one of the architectural marvels of the world.
The US city of Seattle dealt with flood risk by raising their street level an entire floor level, creating the Seattle Underground.
Chicago jacked up entire buildings when they raised their streets in the mid 1800s – one of the jacked up building structures weighed an estimated 35,000 tons.
Netherlands has been building sea walls and pumps for centuries – a sizeable part of the Netherlands farmland would be tidal flats or even permanently underwater, without a vast and continuous effort to hold back the sea.
Much of Singapore is reclaimed land – land which was once sea, which has been filled with concrete, sand and steel, and converted into dry land.
Sea level rise is no threat to anyone, except for people who give up, because they believe the UN’s absurd climate alarmism and sea level rise claims.
Perhaps the sea level rise has produced the very high real estate prices in places like Miami, Florida. Since buyers know the land will be underwater and inaccessible soon, now is the time to buy so the area can be enjoyed before it’s inundated. Right?
Why sea level real estate prices have collapsed so much so that even Obama can afford two beach homes.

And adding more CO2 to the atmosphere in the short-term triggered even more energy loss from the surface and lower atmosphere there, the team’s climate simulations suggest.
The topsy-turvy temperature trend stems, in part, from the region’s high elevation; much of the surface of the ice sheet smothering East Antarctica lies above an elevation of 3000 meters, so it is much colder than it would be at lower altitudes.
Moreover, that region often experiences what meteorologists call a temperature inversion, where temperatures in the lowest levels of the atmosphere are cooler than those higher up.
For the lower-altitude fringes of the icy continent, and for the rest of the world (even Siberia and Greenland), the greenhouse effect still works as expected.”

I believe the same effect occurs in the Arctic but not as pronounced because of lower elevation and less cold but still freezing temperatures. The effect is not detectable because of slowly increasing temperatures likely caused by changes in ocean currents and air currents which overwhelm the CO2 cooling.
There is an Arctic temperature inversion for a few months every winter. But it is not permanent. A long winter night with clear skies and still air is ideal situation for inversion. During the Arctic winter, they form because the extreme cold at the surface cools the lower atmosphere, setting up a stable inversion.
Arctic ice is affected by ocean currents and dark soot constantly deposited on the snow and ice, mainly from burning coal in the N.H. All the warming is in the six coldest months of the year — can’t blame the sun for that.
All that air pollution in China doesn’t stay in China. Some even drifts east to the US Left Coast, where it reduces IQs by one point every year, according to perfesser Truman Capote/.

I love these articles. They calm me and always make me smile or laugh. I wish something like this existed for all the ridiculous things we’re besieged by these days.
Predictions of doom make me nervous. Because leftists can make any prediction of doom and it gets treated as gospel by the mass media. That’s scary. If baloney is published decade after decade, people believe it. Not the smart people who visit here, but at least half the population that believe everything from government bureaucrats. Well, Exodus is a book in the Old Testament so there is that. There’s also a description of a world-wide flood with few surviving men or beasts but that doesn’t seem to be what UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is predicting. Nonetheless, there’s no biblical account of any mass exodus for any reason. Even the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, capitals of perversion, involves an apocalypse but no movements of people. Guterres’ statement should have been “Mass exodus on a paramnesic scale”.

Whether the biblical exodus were mass or not depends. If the figure implied in Numbers be in the ball park, ie two million escaping slaves, then, yes.

The atmosphere is, I think, about a fifth of the mass of the Antarctic ice sheet. The specific heat of ice is about double that of air. So, if you took all the heat we (may have) caused in the air over the last 170 years 1.2degC and transferred it to the Antarctic, it would increase the temperature by 0.12degC. As the ice sheet is about -53degC now, that should not really affect it too badly.

When I was a kid, I used to enjoy camping in the high desert, studying the geology and hunting for fossils. Certainly part of the reason that I rejected the better part of the global warming narrative as an adult.

Sea level rise is primarily no threat because its rise has been unchanged as measured by tide gauges for over 150 years and because it has also been unchanged based on measurements of peat bogs and river sediments for the past 6,000 years. Doesn’t the UN have real things to worry about? How about Ukraine? How about Moldova?

That’s why the IPCC dumped the tide gauges and started using satellites, whose data are more easily manipulated. A satellite that can drift up to 10 feet in orbit is “perfect” for measuring absolute sea level to the nearest millimeter … with needed “adjustments”.
Satellite temperature compilations are ignored for a similar reason as tide gauges — they can’t be manipulated to show more warming — scientists Spencer and Christy are honest volunteers for compiling UAH statistics.

There is NO POINT in making logical fact based arguments against these absurd stories. They are NOT designed to be debated, or to add to scientific knowledge.
They are propaganda, designed to make extremist political activity supportable. The next time an activist wants to stop people using cars, or eating meat, all they need to do is to state that they are saving Los Angeles from flooding.
No one will debate the accuracy of this prediction. It is simply placed there to be referenced when appropriate. Trying to debunk it is equally pointless.

That the rise estimate could be way off is I guess not an hypothesis worthy of consideration.
Not all snow and ice melts to form fresh water. A large portion of it sublimates and goes directly from a solid to a gas, water vapor. What effect does the fact that sublimation requires less absorption of heat than snow or ice melting to water have on the climates of the polar regions? Asking for a friend.
I noticed the linked article doesn’t give a time frame for this 900,000,000 person exodus. By the end of the century? By 2035? 10 years from any given date? I guess they learned their lesson about attaching dates to their predictions. 😉

Something I have pondered, but not something I have seen specifically written about and might be completely off track, but does the surface ice of Antarctica act as a giant ice condenser, like the refrigeration coils in a freezer/freeze drier?
Antarctic Ice is extremely cold, not just at surface, but also at depth in the ice, (let’s say -50 deg). Let’s say that with a change of weather, air/moisture at -30 flows over the surface, we have 20 deg differential, so will the “warm air” condense out as ice on the cold surface? The surface temp would initially warm slightly with the energy exchange (while remaining frozen), but the cold surface of the ice is “powered” but the km’s of extremely cold, frozen ice below. Also, the next cold phase also serves to “repower” the ice by taking surface temperatures down lower again. This all acts in a bit of a positive feedback loop.

I found a population estimate for year 0 to be 188,000,000. With today’s at 7,840,000,000, an increase of 4,171X, makes “biblical-scale ” relatively pathetic, a poor descriptor at best.
The battle for resources driven by rising sea levels will be nothing compared to the battle for resources to fulfil Net Zero by 2050. Or by 2100 for that matter.
At some point the UN should simply say “send us all your money and we will shut up.” Face facts, thats IS what it is all about.

I’m most encouraged by the comments in the Daily Mail article. It seems ordinary people are waking up to the lies and deceit of the Alarmists. All their failed predictions are finally beginning to have an effect.

Sea level rise is going to take a big hit very soon. When the AMO goes negative the trend will decrease significantly. No city is going to disappear under the water. The Arctic will cool and so will much of the NH extratropical regions.
What happens next should be very interesting. If the fascists don’t already have control then we should return to normal quite quickly. Everyone will claim it was only a few nutjobs. Lets hope people remember and prosecute those pushing climate alarmism.

When I was a kid we fished a tidal inlet that had a secondary road bridge that attracted fish under it. There were painted marks on one of the abutments. We were told by very authoritative sounding adults that they marked the sea level every year to show how the oceans were rising as the polar ice caps melted. It made sense to us, we never questioned it. Thirty years later they were rebuilding the bridge which interfered with our fishing there. We asked why they were doing that and they told us the bridge foundation and the abutments that sat on it were sinking so much the road level had dropped precipitously. We laughed so hard that day. I still think of that when I hear all these “experts” driveling on about global warming. The experts we believed as kids are all dead now, nobody to paint lines on the bridge anymore….
Headline I saw today on Ars Technica: “The coastline is at risk from rising seas, and we’re making more of it”. It goes on to say that most of these expansions are occurring in low-lying areas. Who would have thought?
If coastlines are so problematic, why would we be making more of it? That in itself seems to show that we can handle the sea level problem.
