Stephen Reid Powers Georgia Tech To Series Victory Over Pitt In Game Three

Reid hit three home runs in the blowout win for the Yellow Jackets

With the series tied, Georgia Tech came into Sunday's game two hoping to get the win and clinch the series against Pitt. The Yellow Jackets are trying to avoid not making the ACC Tournament and a win today would be helpful.

The offense could not get anything going in the loss Saturday, despite solid pitching. Jackson Finley took the mound today for the series finale and here is how GT lined up:

1. 2B- Kristian Campbell

2. CF- Jake DeLeo

3. RF- Stephen Reid

4. IF- Angelo Dispigna

5. 1B- John Giesler

6. 3B- Drew Compton

7. DH- Jackson Finley

8. C- Jack Rubenstein

9. SS- Jadyn Jackson

Finley pitched a solid first inning, but the Panthers got on the board first. Three straight singles secured the first run of the game, but two strikeouts and a ground out prevented any more from scoring.

For Georgia Tech in the first inning, DeLeo had a one-out double and then Reid blasted a two-run home run to take the first lead of the day for the Yellow Jackets.

Finley pitched a scoreless second inning, but the highlight play of the top of the second was from none other than Reid:

Finley kept up his strong start by getting through the second and third inning scoreless and racking up the strikeouts.

The 3rd inning started off well for the Yellow Jackets. DeLeo had a leadoff double and then Dispigna was intentionally walked with one out. A hit from Giesler brought home DeLeo, but Dispigna was out at second. With a 3-1 lead, Compton singled to put two runners on and then Finley had an RBI single to bring home Giesler and make it 4-1. A bunt from Rubenstein made it 5-1 and it felt like Georgia Tech was going to run away with this game in the third.

The Panthers answered quickly, however. Three straight one-out singles from Pitt gave them another run and made it 5-2.

Georgia Tech responded quickly, which was a welcome development after yesterday's offensive output. It was none other than Reid, who hit his second two-run home run of the day.

From there, Georgia Tech's offense poured it on and it turned into a monster game from Reid. He would have three home runs for the day and six RBIs in a big performance when Georgia Tech needed it. Giesler and Dispigna also hit home runs and the Yellow Jackets scored 15 runs in the blowout win today over the Panthers. The Yellow Jackets scored 15 runs on 19 hits in today's game.

Georgia Tech's next game will be on Wednesday against Kennesaw State at 6:00 p.m. and then a road trip for a big series against Duke starts next Friday. The series with the Blue Devils will be huge from an ACC Tournament perspective and helping Georgia Tech's slim chances of making the NCAA Tournament. Duke leads the ACC Coastal division and a series win over them would be a big boost.

Let's see what the Yellow Jackets can do.
