Governor JB Pritzker’s new budget thus far receives mixed reviews

The new proposed spending plan offered by Governor JB Pritzker is getting mixed reviews.
Labor groups are applauding Pritzker’s commitment to boost education spending and increase workforce development program spending.
Furthermore, several business groups are applauding the work by Pritzker and the General Assembly to stabilize Illinois’s finances – but warn that revenues are expected to slow down in the coming years and caution against significant new spending.
Many Republican lawmakers are echoing those concerns about spending programs. GOP state Senator Steve McClure of Springfield says Illinois is headed toward a “fiscal cliff” and contends Pritzker’s plan would ultimately force a tax increase.
