Lynwood Mayor Jada D. Curry Reflects on the Past Year

This past year has been an amazing lesson in life.  There have been many highs and lows, but I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.  The joys of accomplishing goals for Lynwood far outweigh the sleepless nights and stressful days.

The residents of Lynwood continue to impress me.  The commitment that they have to this village is second to none.  I have enjoyed fellowshipping with them, listening to their concerns, working towards solutions, and parting ways with a hug or a good laugh.

Within this first year, we have welcomed new residents and businesses.  By now, many of our residents have shopped at Dollar General or eaten at Mae’s Que House.  If not, please consider patronizing them along with all of the great businesses that are based here in Lynwood.

I am extremely proud to say that we have been laser focused on our finances.  If you haven’t heard, let me share with you that we paid off two tax anticipation warrant debts that the village had been carrying for years.  I remain committed to seeking out ways to bring more revenue to the village and paying down debt so that we can make some major investments in our infrastructure.

I’m equally as thrilled to announce that our Fire Department is no longer paid on call?  We now have a part-time department which allows us to be even more timely in our response to calls.  The Police Department continues to flourish.  We recently closed out the process for Sergeant promotions and I’m excited to say that we now have 3 new Sergeant’s that have been promoted.  We have invested in new body cameras, a new vehicle fleet and training for all officers.  We now have all of our Public Works crew members up to date with trainings and will be making some investments in machinery so that they can better service the village.

We have created several opportunities to engage all members of our community. We truly believe in total inclusion and no exclusion.

They say that time flies when you’re having fun.  I still cannot believe that it’s been one year since I took office. Lynwood continues to be the perfect partner.  As residents and stakeholders, we have worked marvelously together to make Lynwood stronger than it’s ever been.

Even after a whole year together, I still think I’m dreaming. I am so grateful and blessed to have been elected to serve as the mayor of this great village.

Collectively our future is so bright. For what’s to come is better than what’s been.
