An area lawmaker has introduced legislation that she hopes will put new pressure on Blue Cross Blue Shield to resolve the dispute that has left the company’s clients without access to Springfield Clinic providers.
Democratic state Representative Sue Scherer’s bill would put new requirements on provider networks and enhance fines for failing to comply with them. Scherer says the legislation alone won’t solve the problem that has left thousands of Central Illinois residents scrambling to find new doctors, but says it’s one piece of the puzzle.
The bill has not been set for a hearing, but Scherer says the Democratic leadership in the legislature understands the urgency of the issue and vows that the bill is going to move.
