Sunil Lahri opens up on Sunny Singh essaying Lakshman in Adipurush; recalls his time on Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan

Om Raut’s Adipurush is all set to bring alive the mythological tale of Ramayan on the big screen. While Prabhas and Kriti Sanon play Ram and Sita, respectively, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 actor Sunny Singh will essay Lakshman. In a recent interview, senior actor Sunil Lahri, who essayed the same role in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, spoke about Sunny and the film.

Talking about the young actor stepping into the role of Lakshman, Sunil said since he hasn’t watched anything about the character, he would not be able to comment. “At this stage, it is very difficult to say anything because there is hardly anything shown of Lakshman’s character in the trailer, but I am sure Sunny is a good actor and he must have done justice to the role since he also has previous references of the character,” he told IANS.

The actor added that any good performance by an actor also depends on how the character has been created by the makers.

Recalling his time on Ramayan, Sunil Lahri said, “When I was shooting for Ramayan, I didn’t have any reference from the past for the character of Laxman and whatever little I have managed to do, it is because of the guidance of Sagar Saab (Ramanand Sagar). The credit goes to him and the writers of the television serial. I really wish great success to Adipurush as well as Sunny Singh and rest of the cast.”

Ramayan aired between 1987 and 1988 on Doordarshan. Arun Govil and Deepika Chikhalia played the lead characters. Actors like Arvind Trivedi, Dara Singh and Bal Dhuri were also part of the show. It was also popular for having Ashok Kumar as the narrator.
