BALTIMORE (WBFF) — In today's Waste Watch, software issues at the state comptroller's office are causing a problem with processing tax refunds.
"Millions of people in Maryland are going to be affected by this," said David Williams with the Taxpayers Protection Alliance.

Williams voiced concerns about a ripple effect following this software issue.
"What we're going to see here is, I think, a ripple effect," said Williams. "Once you start delaying, and I think it's going to have this problem well into the end of March and probably April, it's going to affect tax day, and people are nervous enough about taxes."
Even though this issue may impact thousands of Marylanders, Williams reminds viewers that this is not the first time nor the last time Maryland has seen problems with its software.
"This isn't the first time Maryland has had software and hardware problems," said Williams. "We saw the Beacon system a couple of years ago, the unemployment system, pretty much went down and people couldn't get their extended or enhanced unemployment benefits."

"This has been happening for years, and I don't know why there hasn't been the leadership to change the software," said Williams.
