If it’s deep fried or in any way mounted on a stick, you can probably have it for lunch or dinner at the Illinois State Fair. Fried brownies, pickles and—yes, key lime pie—is just the start. Fried Snickers, cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, smores, mac and cheese, and Oreos are all on the menu at a place called “Fried What!?”

You may have to hunt for it, but in past years, at least, deep-fried tacos were a thing. And meat parfaits, too (think: bucket o’ meat).

One woman loves the State Fair so much she drove with her family three hours one-way to partake in this year’s graze-o-rama. “We missed it last year,” she said, clutching a Potato Tornado in one hand and a corndog in the other. “We’re here to make up for lost time.”

Once you’ve tried the fried, and if you’re still hungry, you can embrace your inner Henry the Eighth by purchasing a giant turkey leg, baked then grilled and weighing-in at a whopping 1.5 – 2 pounds and up to 1,000 calories.

To wash it down? A trustworthy Abe Lincoln impersonator told this reporter he had designs on a lemon shake-up.

The Illinois State Fair continues through this Sunday, August 22nd.
