Cait KellyMathias Cormann has defended his bid for the top job at the OECD as backlash from leading climate change experts and environmental groups grows.
Mr Cormann’s defence comes as renowned United States climatologist Michael E. Mann urged the OECD and Joe Biden’s administration to reject Mr Cormann’s bid to be its next secretary-general.
In extensive comments to The New Daily, Mr Cormann pushed back against the criticism and pledged to address climate change if selected.
He argued that as OECD boss he would “progress ambitious and effective action on climate change”.
“Action on climate change, to be effective, requires an ambitious, globally co-ordinated approach,” he said.

Tue 9 Mar 2021 06.03 AEDTThe UK has been warned not to send a dreadful message to the rest of the world by backing a controversial Australian former minister with a much-criticised climate change record to run the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
The race to be the next secretary-general of the OECD – the Paris-based economic thinktank that advises governments across the world – has narrowed to Mathias Cormann, the former Australian finance minister, and Cecilia Malmström, the former EU trade commissioner and Swedish centrist politician. The result is due by 15 March.
Malmström said she had the backing of many EU and non-EU countries in the 39-strong OECD, but admitted she did not know how the US, viewed as the key to the outcome, was planning to vote. Canada, also seen as critical, is likely to follow the US’ lead.

Mathias Cormann holds the record for Australia’s longest serving finance minister. As a free market advocate and fiscal conservative, he is widely credited in Australia for helping to steer Australia’s economy through some difficult economic times. His economic track record is impeccable.
Regarding his views on the environment, I wasn’t actually aware he had any. I have never thought of Cormann as a climate skeptic, but I have also never received the impression Cormann thinks of climate action as a priority.
Germany could be the decider. On one hand I’m sure Germany loves Cormann’s fiscal conservatism. So Cormann must have a lot of influential supporters in German finance, people who are horrified at the hyper-inflationary risk associated with the government spending spree advocated by climate hardliners like President Biden. On the other hand, German Chancellor Merkel answers to a strong green constituency. Which way Germany will jump is anyone’s guess.
I suspect Man et al’s problem with Cormann is, as a fiscal conservative, he would probably argue for fiscal sanity in the face of green demands for trillions of dollars to fund their renewable energy revolution, and make uncomfortable demands that green energy schemes live up to their claims of being able to function without government support.

I”m more and more convinced that people like Mann need real serious therapy, as in make them spend a year living in primitive conditions. On an island… somewhere else, away from humans…. where they have to compete with polar bears for food.
Mann, a disgrace to science.
Mann continues to prove to us over and over that climate science in the 21st century is all about politics. He completetely shuns and censors the scientific method which encourages the legit scientific skeptism needed to force theories to be proven before they are widely accepted with confidence. He is a science dictator! He is constantly involved with throwing his weight around trying to manipulate and influence political decisions under the guise of representing the science that he shuns. As an atmospheric scientist for 39 years, it’s very embarrassing to have such a person as the face of climate science today. The amount of damage to our field from just this one person is astronomical.
Now there is a terrible message to put forward. !!

Given that Australia produces only 1.4% of the world’s industrial emissions, how tf was its Finance Minister supposed to do anything about curbing (imagined) agw?
Mathias Cormann has done a very good job as Australia’s Finance Minister and he would be excellent at preventing financial waste. The Greenies know that they have less chance of their boondoggles being supported if he were to head of the OECD. The piggies would be less likely to have their noses in the trough.

With people like Cormann in charge we could have some confidence that climate madness would not be in complete control.

That’s a job for a liberal woman with feeling’s.

My view has for a long time been: for each and every economist there is an equal and opposite economist. In the zero sum game of economics, whatever you do is wrong, as is eventually demonstrated by the calamity that follows, traceable to that particular action or inaction.
It is very similar to witchcraft. Whatever befalls you, the proximate root cause is someone close to you that you always had suspicions about in terms of motives and competence.
Another way to look at economic theories is to think of them as ships anchored firmly to the sea bed with chains of belief and charm. A rising sea sinks all ships, drowning their proponents as they cling to the gunwales of their fancies.
They are like ignorant physicians who know not the disease and thus cannot prescribe a cure. Watch this week’s bond market and see whether this view is true or not.

Michael Mann and his opinion about anything is getting funnier by the day. He invented the AMO apparently according to him, then dismissed its presence? Maybe he found out he was beaten to the draw on the existence of the AMO buy about six years. Then he says the best person with real economic capability is not the right person to run the OECD, which is an economic body. His pick is a Swedish lady with Green beliefs that he likes? Who knows what her economics are and as far as Mick is concerned, clearly he doesn’t care. I think he should stick to his hockey sticks, or is that ice hockey sticks these days judging by the winter in North America?

Mathias Cormann has been adornment in his adopted country. He never failed to deliver and has an impeccable record. A superb intellect and a match for the mandarins of Brussels.
He has never had the allegation of rubbery figures laid against him – an indictment to his credibility. And then there is Michael Mann – witness his behaviour about his junk science in the case of Mann v Steyn. That should tell you all you need to know
I wonder if we will ever get to see Mann’s research notes in which he put his featureless raw data through hell in search of statistical significance. In the end, he heavily weighted one selected tree from the large Russian Yamal dendro series, ditto for stripbark pines (since designated non-valid for paleotemperature research) and he used the contaminated end of the Tiljander Lake bottom cores (by agric, construction of a town, etc) even when advised not to do so by the person who collected series!
For good measure, he put the Tiljander upside down and he truncated the last 30 yrs of dendro in the famous “hide the decline” maneuver (these showed a sudden decline in ‘dendro’ temperatures) clandestinely splicing on the recent thermometer record to finish off. Even a high school student knows the two sources of data have vastly different granularity – at least he could have taken annual Ts of the last hundred years and averaged them to a single value and placed it half way to be less wrong).
Yeah, science isn’t the Clime Syndicate’s strong suit. Phil Jones of UEA – the command center for the Clime Syndicate – in climategate emails admitted he didn’t know how to use Excel!! This is the ‘science’ that woke folk are following.
