The Latino Caucus in the Illinois General Assembly is charting a new path this year — dropping members who represented Latino constituencies but did not claim Latino heritage — and electing new leadership. The 21st spoke to one of the co-chairs of the caucus, State Sen. Cristina Castro, who represents the 22nd Senate District which covers Elgin, Hanover Park, Streamwood, Hoffman Estates, and a portion of Schaumburg.

Last month, the Illinois General Assembly’s Latino Caucus announced new leadership, new membership rules, and new policy goals for the legislative session underway in Springfield. To hear more, The 21st spoke to one of the co-chairs of the caucus, State Sen. Cristina Castro.
