Heura Foods is horrified that their petition to put climate friendly Vegan food on the menu at the upcoming Glasgow COP26 climate conference is being ignored.
Plant-Based Food Is Critical In the Fight Against Climate Change. So Why Isn’t It a Priority at COP26?
CLIMATE CHANGE VEGAN
By Jill Ettinger
Published on Aug 25, 2021In a petition posted to Change.org, Spanish vegan meat brand Heura Foods is urging UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to bring vegan food to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) scheduled to take place in November in Glasgow.
“We have listened to your words. We have noticed your (lack of) actions. Now it’s time to act and address diet as a key way to drive positive impact on the climate crisis,” the brand’s co-founders Mark Coloma and Bernat Ananos Martinez wrote in a post to LinkedIn.
The two-week summit’s aim is to accelerate dialogues and actions around Paris Agreement and the UN’s Framework Convention on Climate Change.
To that, Heura Foods says there is “more than enough data” to validate plant-based foods as a means to help slow the climate emergency. Yet the COP26 menu options are not entirely plant-based, according to the brand.

I think everyone at WUWT shares my horror that climate friendly vegan foods might be underrepresented at COP26. Imagine the misery; How will our leaders live with having to consume high carbon food like roast beef and caviar, texan style BBQ brisket, Italian pasta, cheese cake, bacon, ham, salmon and cream cheese, when what they really want is to lead by example, by turning COP26 into a showcase for climate friendly salads?
Imagine if COP26 host British PM Boris Johnson was deprived of the option of choosing vegetarian food, and had no option other than to tuck into a big juicy tender rare steak instead, dripping with gravy, sauce, condiments and CO2 emissions, one guilt ridden bite at a time?
We at WUWT urge everyone to sign the petition now, the ensure our leaders are properly provided with climate friendly vegan food options.
They’re probably eating bearded seals.
Maybe they’ll eat polar bears to ensure there aren’t too many. There is a catastrophic narrative to uphold.
I am ok with that so long as they eat the liver.
Oh how I miss my dear late mother’s liver & bacon casseroles!!!
Bear makes excellent sausage.
Bear is a good substitute for pork … but likely to be infected with Trichinella (round worms responsible for trichinosis). Cook it well. Their fat is the best water proofing I’ve ever used.
Read Eleven Blue Men by Michael Chrighton..
There is an Eleven Blue Men and Other Narratives of Medical Detection by Berton Roueché. I couldn’t find anything similar by Michael Crichton. Can you provide a reference?
Why would beer be infected with Trichinella? Do I need to boil my next pint before drinking it?
I prefer bearded clams, myself.
Someone just had to go there . . .
Naughty … but always a crowd pleaser.
Gingerbeard clams? This is Scotland we’re talking about.
Yuk! Ginger minge?! Do you have to? I’ve only just eaten.
Send them all to Mars where there are no humans to interfere with climate

Is Scotch Whisky vegan?
Barley, water, yeast; matured in wooden barrels, …… .
The distilling would have to be done using wood for the heat, though, a gas or oil fired still would be a no-no.
I like the smokiness of Peat , plenty on that in Scotland
The fermentation process produces CO2, so………
So that naturally means that there will be no fizz of any kind at this Cop26 foody fest, no champagne, no sparkling wines, no beers, etc……….yeah right!!! “Oh Cynthia, what on earth are these peasants doing on this perfect Caribbean island being able to afford the flights & hotels, these are our privileges & entitlements, they’re NOT for the peasants!!! Oh how I pray that this November in Cornwall will be the coldest & wettest & stormiest on record!!!
Last time I checked Glasgow was not in Cornwall 😕
Does yeast qualify as animal?
They’re neither. Yeasts are in their own Kingdom (and vegan).
Barley, water, yeast;
Woah there! Brewing with yeast is exploitation of a living entity.
Fer be washin’ dun yer shank o mutton.
Dont they chuck dead rats in it to improve the flavour?
Or is that Somerset Zyder?
Yep … that’s the zider wot has that.
Yes Scotch is very vegan.
Personally I am a great fan of vegan food. Cows and lambs are vegans, right?
Venison too I believe!!!
Damn good point. I only eat vegan animals. Carnivores too cruel.
Of course it is, I always enjoy a glass or two in the evenings, with a splash of vegan water of course!!! 😉
Sign the petition to serve bugs at COP26.
Sounds like a better idea.
AND DEFINATELY NO ALCOHOL!!!!!!!!
My food is vegan, I don’t know why our leaders shouldn’t.
Shouldn’t what? No speakeda English?
& All My food is vegan,
BUT… I employ chickens, cows, pigs & sheep to pre-digest it for me !!
They go very well with vegetables.
Yes, I let beef cattle be vegans so that I don’t need to be one.
If Meat Eaters Acted Like Vegans
Brilliant. Thanks.
“Imagine if COP26 host British PM Boris Johnson was deprived of the option of choosing vegetarian food, and had no option other than to tuck into a big juicy tender rare steak instead, dripping with gravy, sauce, condiments and CO2 emissions, one guilt ridden bite at a time?”
I have been a vegetarian all my life. It is a very different thing to veganism, For one we are not so pompous about it or believe we are changing the world.
Bearing in mind that vegan foods come from all corners of the world (and is often heavily processed) and some of it, like avocados, is positively damaging, this notion they are saving the world is demonstrable nonsense.
As for the idea of eating a juicy tender steak etc etc, this is a real turn off for me but if you want to eat one go ahead. I would just ask that it be raised humanely.
Quote why you should concern yourself about how my meat is raised is a mystery to me.
Do meat eaters assail you lot with similar pre-conditions about your food choices ?
The simple fact that all of the veggie SJWs miss is that is us carnivores did not consume the lovely little fluffy animals you claim to care so deeply about, the vast majority of them would not exist.
There would be no need to raise pheasants for shooting, nor cows for anything, etc etc etc. Such results appear contrary to the veggies desired outcomes.
They won’t be saving anything at all. They will be committing said animals to virtual extinction.
You’re missing the point Mark; Everyone has the right to be concerned about the way meat is raised and that includes yours ! And this is as it should be.
The rest of your argument is somewhat convoluted. Are you just be difficult?
Sick and stressed animals lose money for farmers. People who have no experience of farming anthropomorphize about the lives and deaths of animals, but are totally ignorant of the reality of farming.
Can you enlighten me about how avocadoes are damaging? I have three avocado trees, and I don’t see any damage caused.
I think what tonyb is saying is that the usual fare of the trendy vegan isn’t grown by said trendy vegans but intensively cultivated by agri-corps in many different countries then flown and trucked in to the local supermarket with a ginormous carbon footprint.
Thing is Richard, I’m not the slgihtest bit interested in your interpretation of what you think tonyb is saying.
I am interested to know, by what divine right does one group deign to tell me how my food should be treated before I consume it. Hence my question to tonyb not you.
I also want to know what outcomes tonyb thinks there will be for the planet’s animals if all of the meat eaters stopped eating them.
Why would sheep, cows, chickens, turkeys, be bred & kept alive in any significant numbers anymore and by whom ?
Would there be a decrease in the numbers of these animals and how does that square with them having a life presently.
Most of all, I want to know why tonyb thinks he has a right to tell me how my food should be reared and treated ?
Would tonyb ming if everyone else told the veggies how their nuts should be reared and treated ?
Mark
I have not suggested for a moment that people should stop eating meat. That is up to you.
However, I am sure you can see the difference between a nut and a cow. Do you really believe that cows can be raised with no regards at all for their well being?
When I see the Orcas throwing the seals up in the air, playing catch with them, playing with their food & abusing them … it makes me feel a lot better about eating the live monkey brains.
That’s fine Mr. Gobell (sorry my phone wants to change that to cowbell – that’s amusing) my post was in response to something Zig Zag Wanderer posted, not you. If you are not interested in what I have to say then don’t respond. I’m not vegetarian or vegan – I learned at an early age how to shoot, prepare and cook for the pot; we reared pigs, lambs, chickens and geese for food and I know how humanely they were raised and slaughtered. I have zero respect for anyone who attempts to tell me how I should eat or think but tonyb wasn’t one of them. ‘Nuff said.
Richard
Yes. Avocados are grown often in cleared rain forests and need lots of additional water. same with many vegan foods.
How humanely does nature raise animals in the wild? As inhumanely as some humans treat animals, it is still better than what nature provides.
Animals are actually treated well, on the whole and there is a very good reason for that – if you stress an animal (hurt, mistreat or unduly scare it) before killing it then the meat tastes quite different; it usually has less taste and can be a bit tough – you want an animal to be as relaxed and content as possible before killing it so it will taste better.
Haggis for all!
Yes, made in pangolin stomachs to support the cuisine of developing nations like, oh, China for example.
The only way China is a “developing country” is: they’re “developing” a taste for our intellectual property.
I’d say they’re over-developed in that regard.
🙂
There is not such a thing as intellectual property. It’s artifical misconcept invented by big lawers and big corporations in order to creat scarcety where it doesn’t exist. It is a tool of monopolisation, nothing more.
Property can be only tangible i.e. physical, material. Ideas are not tangible and are not property.
If I stole your bike you have no bike anymore; but if I looked at it and copied it in my shed with my own money, labour, materials, tools, energy etc. I stole nothing, your bike is still with you, every screw of it.
You should read “Against Intellectual Property” by the great economist Stephan Kinsella.
Nonsense. Your example is a false analogy (a logical fallacy). An example of intellectual property is a product of someone’s mind. It has value only if someone else wants it. Music, art, literature, inventions etc. have no intrinsic value yet the creator has a right to charge others for its use. So too they have the right to restrict others from merely duplicating these ideas for their own benefit. Secrets of the trade as well as patents are as old as civilization … hardly a product of lawyers and big corporations. Intellectual property has value because people place value on it, like anything else with value, therefore it can be stolen. It’s no different than plagiarism
I don’t consider Stephan Kinsella in the least bit great … and likely just great in his own mind. He’s also wrong about intellectual property. If the result of creativity was ‘open source’ creativity would soon dry up.
I also think the meeting place, travel arrangements and hotels used by attendees should be strictly solar and wind powered.
Wasn’t there one COP gabfest powered by wind and solar? Yeah, the one that had huge diesel-powered generators behind some fencing/obstructions.
Going to take some of them a long time to walk to Glasgow. Better start now.
If it were a petition for that one occasion, it might be fun, however, that is not what the petition is about, so no.
Methane emissions are a first-order forcing of [catastrophic] [anthropogenic] climate cooling… warming… change. Think of the fetuses!
You’re like Peta, one-trick pony.
No, I can’t do that to another human being.
I’ll sign a petition that requires ONLY vegan food at COPs, including taxpayer funded accommodations.
No point in having any half measures when it comes to fighting climate change, I say.
I don’t like Vegan food. I’m from Altair.
Are you a Krell?
They should serve Gov’t Cheese.
Cheddar is ok, I like it as any cheese
Pie, beans and chips for everyone.
Chips are usually made from poatoes.
Vegetable.
Beans are, well, beans.
Vegetable.
Scotch Pie. Flour for the casing mostly wheat, so vegetable. Small amount of brown semi-solid material inside, allegedly lamb but sometimes impossible to tell. Could be passed off as vegetable. Thin brown gravy, probably water and some Oxo or Bovril. Vegetable.
Aoplogies to the makers of proper Scotch Pies – no conference in Scotland is complete without them. (That is the pies, not the makers.)
When you’re talking COPs, you could have just left it at “No conference is complete.”
I’m sure advanced planning is going on right now for COP 143.
😜
It would be appropriate for serve the attendees at COP 26 only vegan food or insects, which is the sort of thing they urge other people to do.
It would also be appropriate for them to get there on wooden sailing ships. I hear Scotland has lots of sheep, from which the attendees could make their own clothing, blankets, and tents. Presentations should use chalk and blackboards, and all climate model calculations should use abacuses. (There would be no loss in model accuracy.)
I like vegan, but I never eat vegan without meat, imagine Chilli Sin Carne, impossible, so I eat Chili Con Carne, or green beans with lamb and savory.
Lambs are vegans
Depends on how I feel really. Sometimes I enjoy a Texan Chili con Carne and sometimes I enjoy a Mexican Carne con Chili.
What about plastics?
“What about plastics?”
Try to not eat them !
“What about plastics?”
You are confusing carbohydrates with hydrocarbons again.
“You are confusing carbohydrates with hydrocarbons again.”
Aren’t they the same thing? I mean, they both have hydrogen and carbon, right? So what’s the difference?
Apparently the average Scotsman is not too keen on vegetables.
A report 10 years ago highlighted this fact.
http://Www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2057034/Scotlands-dreadful-diet.html
The Scottish Diet – Food Standards Scotland produced a report 3 years ago which said that not much has changed since. (Google Scottish Diet for the pdf of the report,)
I suspect the problem is a lot of Scott’s can’t afford good food. Poor quality food like deep fried fish and chips, batter, tends to be much more affordable than healthy eating choices. Outside big city shops its difficult to find variety and quality at an affordable price. Overcooking and lots of salt is what you do to vegetables when they are half rotten, to disguise the taint.
“I suspect the problem is a lot of Scott’s can’t afford good food.”
How do you know? Is your name Scott? Oh, you meant Scots. 😉
Stop being a deep-fried Mars bar denier.
There are supermarkets all over. The scots have the same imported European fruit and veg available to them as we have in England and its freshness is no different. In a chilly climate people want solid food with lots of fat and calories, that’s all it is.
JFK warned us … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOgqZ0_Cqzk
Signed. Now where’s the petition to request the skies over Glasgow are not filled with private jets?
No props. No turbines. Only hydrogen filled balloons, with bird-friendly profiles.
Actually I think they should hold the conference in Kabul instead…I understand there’s a lot of empty planes going that way these days.
Not all empty – I understand that le dame Pelosi was doing her nut about a couple of congressmen hitching a ride to Kabul to see what was going on in person.
Oh please somebody dress her in a bikini and lots of makeup and parachute her into a crowd of Taliban fighters.
I predict that November will be a bumper month for burgers in Glasgow. (But not for the burghers of Glasgow)
Vegan? Why not scavenging the countryside in a low carbon fashion like the early humans did who were attuned with nature than people are now? They could be given flint knives, and access to various places to fabricate the tools and other items necessary to survive. No polyester clothes, only hand woven fabric. No plastic for shoe soles, not be allowed to make a fire due to CO2 requirements, etc. Fortunately they would not last long, and we could kill 2 birds with one stone.
I so agree. I’d like them to eat all vegan, zero food miles, no cultural appropriation food ie turnips, uncooked (got to be zero co2 and seen to be)
I’d sign it if it were demanding that only vegan foods be served. Since the save-our-planet people are attempting to force everyone to eat only vegan plant-based foods it should start with our erstwhile leaders. Force them to eat salad at their luxury conference.
Agree.
Vegan menu every day, at every meal, no options. Are they totally committed or aren’t they? (They should be…..)
Vegan haggis, neeps and tatties for all!
Not everyone likes vegan food in fact it is against doctors advice to eat it.the vegan diet is a backwards step. To poorer nutrition. It requires people to do detail charting to get the right combination of nutriates. Plus the b12 deficiency. Back to shorter people.
It’s a tough world, don’t sit still too long and watch out for the vegetarians! Video didn’t show actual swallowing.

For lunch I has beans, Human beans
For breafasst, I unzips a bwana.
Planned People, served with a nice Chianti, is so socially forward.
Especially if it’s liver from a census taker.

I strongly suspect this anti-red meat this is just another anti-Western idea. I read somewhere that the consumption of goat meat is 5 or 10 times that of beef. Why aren’t we banning goat meat as well? Surely goats fart too. Ohhhhhh, well of course, goat meat is only eaten by the poor in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Now we can’t harm these poor dears, can we?
What? You have never seen Cabrito on the menu at a Mexican restaurant?
They most assuredly do. When travelling in the Indian desert once, we were surrounded by goats one night. They were pretty much farting continuously, and each one was like a .22 going off. It was pretty funny. Had fun chasing them in the morning to get milk for chai too.
We never did decide if the goats were there because of the desert, or the desert because of the goats. They eat absolutely everything!
Yeah, they use goats a lot to get the vegetation down here. I rented some once for said job, right when my kids were young. They were amused immensely by the chorus of farts every few seconds. Not even nearly as funny as a single ripper in school assembly when I was growing up (allegedly).
I vote to require a carbon-free diet and net zero energy delivery for 90 days quarantine of all attendees as a permanent, lasting solution to the entire issue.
They should fast for the conference. Growing, cultivating, harvesting, distribution, and preparation of food takes energy, most likely from fossil fuel.
They make vegan cake. Let them eat cake… and nothing else.
If they really care about CO2 emissions, all participants need to travel to COP26 via wind powered sailboat, bicycle, skateboard, or on foot.
No flying, limos, taxis, rideshares or automobiles.
Climate change, BLM, London’s extinction rebellion, Culture wars and list goes on and on, I’m a lost soul in the world that has going mad.
Today’s Telegraph remind us that Monty Python’s Life of Brian recorded more than 40 years ago was not only funny but prophetic too
https://youtu.be/Dgp9MPLEAqA
Surely given the threat of climate change to crop production , fasting would set an example to us all?
I’ll file this under “Great Minds Think Alike.” 😀
Provide them with no food, the fate they will inflict on most of humanity given the chance.
Yeah. Giv’em weed 💩
They’ll stick to vegan cocktails.
There. Happy now?
How about serving the truth for a change?
New NY governor adds 12,000 deaths to publicized COVID tally – ABC News
No, I won’t sign a petition to serve only vegan foods. Is there an option to force-feed them insects?
Limiting food to Vegan is a start. Why not stretch that goal a little further and require all for to not only be Vegan, but also sourced within 50 km of the meeting site? If Vegan is good, locally grown is that much better! Wonder how many thousands of people were going?
Locally grown veggies? In November?! In Scotland?!?
🤣 🤣 🤣
Marmite futures are UP!
Yes, but you’re not seeing this clearly.
The lack of locally sourced vegetables is a feature, not a bug.
Let them be hungry, which is what they will inflict on the bulk of humanity with their simpleton “War On Fossil Fuels.”
Just crested 1000 signatures! I was so happy to oblige!!
When I first read that, I read crested as created.
….. OMG, another democrat on this site.
I think this wouldn’t help unless meat was replaced entirely with bugs.
But perhaps it would be better to encourage all the Scientific Experts (e.g. the 400 odd scientists who turned up at Katowice from both the Democratic Republic of Congo and from Equatorial Guinea (and their US & EU chums) to make sure they experience the real Glasgow experience.
They might enjoy the tradition of visiting The Rangers Shop on Sauchiehall Street and join together singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
Fun guaranteed!
The word on the street has always been that if you’re visiting Glasgow and someone asks you which Club you support, always say Partick Thistle. (yes, yes, I realise that less than 1% of WUWT readers will get that, but believe me, it’s funny).
I’m more of a fan of the Blackthorn Club, myself.
There is quite a serious Cause & Effect confusion in here/there. Everywhere really when said & done but hey ho, C’est la vie with Climate Science™
Especially did a shit diet create climate change or did climate change create nutrient free shit food
As is often the way though, we’d be correlating Effect with Effect so are bound to find a nice causation going on.
You know me, you know what causes both those things and it comes from beneath all ours feet and not from up in the sky.
Had a good craic with the local peasant Dave (##) today and he recounted his sales/marketing adventure, last year, with the small number of lambs he cultivates.
(His wife does actually while he looks after the much hunkier cows)
Anyway, Sale Time came and as sheep farmers do, they select the very best of their lambs and take them to market first.
They sold for £95 each, on average.
’bout a month later he gathered up the poor-doers, runts and assorted mis-shapes and, full of dread, fears of bankruptcy and other variations on ‘ruin’, took them to auction.
They sold for, average, £140 each
What Do You Say
Also in the news and again we must all send big hugs & kisses to the residents of Number 10, get this:
Headline:”Prisoners to plug worker shortage in meat industry”
Thanks Auntie
## Some Woman, attempting to park a car far too big for her driving capabilities, deemed his tractor parking skills to be wanting – hence why she couldn’t place her Beemer where she wanted.
After an epic struggle she achieved (some) satisfaction only notice that David was sat in the offending tractor, watching the while.
She wandered away, loudly muttering unprintables about ‘Peasants’ as she went.
It tickled him greatly and he’ll recount the story till his dying day
Vegan ‘meat’ ??? Aren’t they being a bit hypocritical? Why do they soil their philosophy by calling the muck they make “meat”? Bloody hilarious.
Rory, I’ve always wondered why, if vegan food is so great, they have to keep coming up with ways to fake meat?
I know, LOL. Hell, I love well made veg dishes. It makes the meat stand out more. I’m pretty sure it has much to do with virtue signaling … “I really LOVE meat, but I’m saving the planet, admire me!”
Cows are vegan and I thought cows were bad.
Mmmmmm… fresh vegans 🥗
To serve vegan…
I would like a tender vegan, served medium-rare, with a jacketed potato, and a nice Merlot.
The prescribed menus should contain only those ingredients that are *NOT* proscribed for religious reasons by *any* attendee – obviously to avoid offending anybody.
In addition :
NO salt
NO sugar
NO caffeine
NO alcohol
y’all have a great week
The Management
I’d sign it – if they wanted their garbage can rejects to be a REQUIREMENT. The only things on the menu.
Breath-arians have proposed a novel diet option. Their seems to be a splinter sect making their case.
It should be all locally sourced food (by local I mean walking distance)
Let them eat cake.
We all know what happened next.
What’s the point of going to a conference if you can’t dine on great food? Otherwise, they could Zoom these conferences.
And c’mon man. Do you expect the elites to eat common folk vegan food?
Beinz meinz fartz!
After flying all the way to Edinburgh from all over the globe … what difference does it make?
As Brit comedian Gary Delany said in his act, based on the general idea of a poor diet for Scots, “the forbidden fruit in Glasgow,………………………is fruit!!!
Forget vegan food.
An Eco-friendly insect diet should be mandatory, after all that’s what they want for us peasants.
That would sort out the hypocrites.
Great point. If they were forced to eat vegan for two weeks, it would be a reality check for them. Bojo may even manage to lose some weight. ( He’d be fasting. ).
I don’t see the point of this petition. These days it would be highly unusual for a UK menu not to have vegan and vegetarian options. A large percentage of COP26 delegates will be vegans and I am sure they will be well catered for already at a venue such as this.
What would make the point better is if ONY vegan food was available. The press could then have fun following the carne-delegates (with their masks on and hoods up) sneaking off to the local Burger King after dark. That would be more fun I think.
Done. Great initiative!
Next one we demand they walk to their silly conferences
as long as its ONLY vegan everything?
inc desserts!
vegan icecreams marketed here seem to be staying on shelves or thrown out at 1/3 prices Ive noted, cant be so yummy I guess LOL
Apparently, vegans will save the world – just by their choices of what I put in my body.
Signed it!
It’s Glasgow, may be an improvement
As I read this I am eating a nice piece of beef jerky doing my part to green the earth
Serve nothing. They want to live like it’s the stone age, let them.
Another one I’ll file under “Great Minds Think Alike.”
Thought it’s more like “They want everyone except themselves to live like it’s the Stone Age,” and therein lies the problem. The old “rules for thee, but none for me” hypocrisy.
They should practice what they preach.
I’d rather sign a petition to have NO food served at COP 26, since that will be the result of their pointless “War On Fossil Fuels” for most of humanity (assuming humanity does not stop them) and they should be “committed” enough to experience the result of what they preach to everyone else first hand.
Eat a beaver…save a tree!
