Actually fun fact. Their shells are made of keratin! Similarly to your fingernails! So as their shell grows it sheds light layers and is SUPER ITCHY. So they looove some shell scratches.

idk if it's true but I heard somewhere that said the shells actually grows with the turtles and they can have nerves inside them. So I think that should be the reason why they can feel the outside of their shell
