Record Heat In California Claims Not Supported By Data

November 9, 2020

By Paul Homewood

I suspect we’re going to hear this lie a lot in the next few weeks.

The only problem is that it is not true:

In the midst of the state’s most destructive wildfire season, California shattered temperature records in August, September and October.

All three months were the state’s warmest on record, according to a new report by UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain.

“The long-term warming trend during the peak of fire season in California has been especially pronounced,” Swain said on Twitter, “and 2020 really puts an exclamation point on that.”

The report linked gives this map showing that the £record heat” was principally along the coast in October:

However, when we check out monthly temperatures in Los Angeles and San Francisco, we find that none of the three months were anywhere near being a record:

There will of course have been several degrees of warming due to urbanisation since the 1930s, making current temperatures even less remarkable.

When we look at long term trends, it is often claimed that the time of observation has changed, which can affect monthly average trends very slightly. However, station metadata shows that the time of observation has remained the same throughout at both sites, which have measured at midnight every day.

I have little doubt that the official NOAA version will support Daniel Swain’s claims. If it does, it will simply reduce their credibility even further.

This is little better than fraud.

Record amount of fake news on California temperatures – no surprise. Of course if there was any genuine news they wouldn’t need to bother faking.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
Attributed to Josef Goebbels but alive and well today.

Get your weather data from a meteorologist; don’t trust climatologists, whose objectives are likely political. Data is required for science, not politics.

Is this one way of getting NOAA to follow the message and stay onside? Much more difficult to correct a “It’s a record breaker” message once it’s out there.

Doncha know a Biden presidency will magically make it all better. Even more so a Harris one.

Choosing the three month period from August through October is sometimes called “cherry picking”. Although the year 20202 is not over, the maximum temperature warmest year for California (according to NOAA) is still 2014.

Paul is addressing the shrill false news that was printed . .’CA sizzled w/ 3 record hot months.’

Previously as they shrilled mo by mo, Paul has also rebutted them individually.

Nor have we seen an update on that supposed “worrying” lack of freeze in the Arctic.

What a difference two weeks makes. Most of the water on the Russian side is0 ice-covered now.

It looks like a polar bear is grinning at us:

It’s full on Orwellian mode now. The media, NOAA, The Met Office etc are now at the point where they are just making stuff up to suit the narrative. And why not there’s no one in positions of power questioning them. That’s why sites like yours are so important Paul. Some day in the near future your hard work now will help to hold these charlatans to account.

It is remarkable how the relationship between truth, politicians and the media has broken down entirely now. Even 20 years ago the sort of lying we now see every day from politicians and the media would have been unthinkable. On climate I am sure we will see months of lies and propaganda everywhere, pushing this immediate Net Zero requirement because of the wholly imaginary “climate emergency”.

Fraud is endemic, one could say baked into the system, in Cali.
