IDPH reports 4,224 new COVID-19 cases, 51 deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 4,224 new COVID-19 cases and 51 deaths on Thursday.

The new cases bring the state’s total to 1,532,344, while the death toll is 24,030.

As of Wednesday, 2,254 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, an increase of 12 from Tuesday and an increase of 70 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 527 were in the ICU, an increase of 15 from Tuesday and 38 from the prior week. There were 289 patients on ventilators, up six from Tuesday and 48 from the prior week.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 4.8 percent. The seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 5.5 percent.

Seventy-seven percent of eligible Illinoisans ages 12 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Almost 60 percent are fully vaccinated.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 13,978,485 COVID-19 vaccines, per state data. The seven-day average of doses administered is 40,046.
