Big Bad Tech: When censorship goes corporate

July 20, 2021

By Paul Homewood

Donna Laframboise has a new paper out with GWPF:

Free speech advocates have traditionally battled government censorship. But corporate censorship by the global Big Tech behemoths is now the larger threat, a paper published today by the Global Warming Policy Forum (GWPF) warns.

In Big Bad Tech: When censorship goes corporate, Canadian journalist Donna Laframboise shows that Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube aren’t just distorting current political discourse. They are erasing history.
Records of what ordinary people said and thought at specific historical moments are priceless. Archives and libraries go to great trouble to preserve them. When YouTube deletes videos for violating its ever-changing policies, the historical record becomes like Swiss cheese – full of holes.
When Facebook obliterates 350,000-strong groups discussing current events everyone, including scholars, lose access to massive amounts of culturally significant information.
Laframboise, a former vice president of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, says tech behemoths aren’t simply private companies:

“By hosting public forums in which thousands of people participate, these corporations have become the custodians of important historical records. They have a moral obligation to preserve these records. Instead, they’re wiping them off the face of the planet.”
“Big Tech is like an abusive spouse,” says Laframboise. “It changes the locks, burns your stuff in a bonfire, and asks what you’re going to do about it.”
“Big Tech censorship isn’t random,” adds Dr. Benny Peiser, GWPF director. “This report shows that non-conformist thought about climate change and many other matters is being systematically stifled.”

“Western societies are at serious risk of returning to the censorship culture of Europe’s Dark Ages and are rapidly losing their hard-earned freedoms.”

Our current “government” just tells big tech whom to take down.

The Ministry of Truth in 1984. “Minitrue” was permanently erasing the inconvenient and rewriting history. Big Brother seems to be an amalgam of the world’s billionaires who obviously know best.

(YouTwitFace) “Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube aren’t just distorting current political discourse. They are erasing history.”
I figure Dorsey and Zuckerberg are using 1984 as a reference guide. I fully expect them to cooperate on recreating their own ‘Speak-write’ – which is capable of being as a child of (hey!) Google and Alexa.

I’m sure many have noticed another week when Boris’s Saudi Arabia has generated practically nothing . This is getting serious. Currently wind 0.98GW, coal 0.88, surely a snippet for BBC news?

We have recently learned that Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are coordinating with the Biden administration. This is not a case of private companies doing whatever they want to; they are agents of the government. We have Jen Psaki’s confession.

This is CENSORSHIP, fully within the classical definition. It is evil.

I read the GWPF article, and downloaded the 20 page report to read later.

    Two comments:
    (1) This censorship and rewriting history is fascism.
I’ve watched rewriting history in the global average temperature data
since 1997, so it’s not new to me.

The word “fascism” should be mentioned often.
This is how the National Socialists started out
in their first year of rule in Germany.

    (2) I have never used Facebook or Twitter.
    And I never will.
My initial thought was information about me needs to be private.
That was long before the censorship became known.

Now that the censorship is well documented,
    any conservative, Republican, libertarian (me)
or person who REALLY believes in free speech,
should NEVER use Facebook or Twitter.

If you do, then you are part of the problem
and not part of the solution,
    Shame on you.

Anyone can live a perfectly happy life
    without using Facebook and Twitter.
    I do.

And if you must use Google,
skip the first page of results
    where Google tells you
what THEY want you to know.

I prefer Duck Duck Go, but If that doesn’t work,
I use Google and skip to page three of the results.

    It’s worse than we thought!

“Platforms” controlling speech were encouraged when they had a Leftard editorial position. Don’t mess with Section 230!

Big Tech failed to realize the perfidy of the Left. Once Big Tech accepted the role of managing content, they left themselves wide open for control by the state.

Klobuchar doesn’t comprehend that she is trying to make Big Tech agents of the state.
