Update: A few months ago I posted about renting a pool for Paco's presumably last birthday. He had an appointment with a cardiologist this week, and we found out the tear in his heart valve is healing! His heart condition went from severe to mild. My heart is full, I'm so happy!

One of the biggest tragedies we face in life is losing a pet, who is a member of the family, so any additional time together is amazing.
Yeah, only the good Lord knows when it's our time. I've had a heart condition my whole life.

We didn't know it was possible either. Our original vet said it was highly unlikely he could recover from it, a year ago when his tear first happened.
Well, there isn't much of a plan. Paco has heart murmurs that cause him to occasionally have syncopes. One syncope was so bad that it tore part of a heart valve, and since then he's had an enlarged heart and syncopes a couple times a month. Even with all of this, his high-energy levels haven't changed at all. He has continued to be our fun-loving, energetic boi. At first we were scared when he got excited and we try calming him down, but there's no use. He's just too happy of a dog.
We did make some big life changes - as a family we moved to an off grid tropical location. He spends most of his days resting, being in a carrier through bazaars and markets, and sometimes gets to play on the shore.
Our plan is to let him enjoy life to the fullest. We're happy that he made it this far, and we're happy he's healthier. We still has to take several medications several times a day, so we dont want to limit him to much. We just want him to be happy.
This makes me happy.

I'm so happy for you! I'm sixty, so our family has experienced the heartbreak of losing a doggy many times over. It never gets easier. Each dog has a unique personality, but all of them have been full of loyalty and love. Each one has brought a ton of laughter into our lives.
We had a Corgi that we thought was dying, and our vet asked to run one more test. We said of course, and her hunch was right, he had Cushings disease. We were so grateful she caught it and we had Jake for several more years. A good vet is worth his/her weight in gold.
This legit just made me so happy. Good for Paco!!

Congratulations! I know how stressful that sort of thing can be, as one of my previous dogs had a heart murmur. We adopted her at 2 years old, thinking she'd only have another 8 months to live (according to the vet, since the murmur was pretty significant). She lived until she was 14, which is nutty for a German Shepherd.
Also, that pic makes it look like Paco is sticking his tongue out at you like "Gotcha! >:P"
