Bankers, insurers and activists assault our freedoms

Climate elites demand that we meekly and obediently accept their diktats and restrictions

Duggan Flanakin

Oil giant ExxonMobil’s 12-member board of directors reportedly has two new members who are climate activists backed by investor “Engine 1.”

Under the headline, “Shareholders tell Exxon to eat sh*t,” G/O Media and Earther “reporter” Molly Taft gleefully ends paragraph 1 with, “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!?” The widely read journalist explained that “The bigger boys in the room [notably financial giant BlackRock] decided to play along,” prompting “panicked” Exxon officials to pause voting, but only after two of the four Engine 1 candidates (of the three endorsed by BlackRock) had been voted onto the board. “Too bad, guys,” Taft gloated.

In truth, the battle to alter ExxonMobil was over before the latest skirmish began. Taft herself reported that Exxon had promised to add “other more climate friendly directors” to its board in an effort to appease a few noisy investors.

Two weeks earlier, Canadian activist Seth Klein had declared it was “time to stop playing nice with fossil fuel companies,” which in his mind are “villains” who “outright lied for decades about the truth of climate change” and work tirelessly to “delay and divert the need for climate action.” The fossil fuel industry, said Klein, “in pursuit of its financial self-interest and preservation, has become expert at preying on our fears, misgivings and desires.”

Preying on our fears? You would think we are trapped in a burning building, or about to be eaten by Godzilla, when this entire climate pandemic is driven by a desire to shave maybe half a degree Fahrenheit off forthcoming world temperatures – based on computer model predictions that are already way above what has been measured by satellites operating in the real world!

But in the same week that once-proud ExxonMobil raised the white flag of surrender to climate mythologists, 61% of Chevron Corp. investors backed a radical proposal to force customers to reduce their “emissions” of carbon dioxide. Chevron investors barely blocked a demand that Chevron report on how significant reductions in fossil fuel demand would affect its business at a time when fossil fuel demand is rising!

On the same day, a Dutch court ordered Royal Dutch Shell to slash its “emissions” by 43% by 2030. Earlier, 30% of Shell’s investors had voted to adopt a more ambitious climate (decarbonization) plan put forward by Follow This, a campaign group that also targeted BP and the French oil company Total.

This may appear to be a war on big oil and gas, but in reality the war is against citizens who cherish their vehicles, appliances, jobs, living standards and freedoms. Few of the loudest mouths of the “green” movement have altered their lavish lifestyles, yet the super rich cannot abide “irredeemable, deplorable,” ordinary people enjoying a drive in the country, a warm home in the winter or a flight off on vacation.

Climate elitists are influencing boardrooms not only in big oil but also in big finance and big insurance. In 2019, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced it would cease financing fossil fuels projects at the end of 2021. In 2020, major U.S. banks joined forces in refusing to finance oil and gas drilling in the tiny portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge that President Trump had opened to drilling.

Also in 2020, Lloyd’s of London announced a decision to stop providing insurance to fossil fuel companies by 2030. As Property Claim Services strategist Tom Johansmeyer explained, “Insurers and reinsurers around the world are grappling with issues related to both climate change and the impact of energy transition on their portfolios. Some have made the same commitment that Lloyd’s did, and others are likely to follow.”

Now the International Energy Agency has “demanded” an immediate end to oil and gas exploration – period! Otherwise, these elitists predict a worldwide disaster over “our” failure to limit global temperature’s increase to a maximum 1.5o C by 2050.  Not to be outdone, COP26 President-designate Alok Sharma has called for an end to international coal financing. In Sharma’s view, “The days of coal providing the cheapest form of power are in the past, and in the past they must remain.”

As Future Proof founder and editor Tim de Chant sees it, “If global leaders started following the [IEA] report’s recommendations tomorrow, the most significant – and immediate – impact would be the cessation of all new fossil fuel projects starting next year. Countries could continue extracting the oil, gas and coal they’re currently exploiting, but they shouldn’t authorize any new exploration, drilling or mining.”

Another report asserts the world is already too hot to support human life. Scientific American’s Andrea Thompson makes the absurd claim that, “Even in the abundantly air-conditioned U.S., heat currently kills more people than cold, floods or hurricanes.” Bunk. USA Today reported in 2015 that cold kills nearly 20 times more people worldwide as heat, and that, even in the USA cold kills more than twice as many as heat.

Meanwhile, Molly Taft reports, Russia’s national oil company Rosneft has begun a massive project in the Arctic that officials say will produce 25 million tons of oil annually by 2024. Taft describes the project as “dauntingly huge,” as Rosneft anticipates exporting 115 million tons of oil a year by 2030 by building 15 entirely new towns for an anticipated 400,000 employees. Is it her own “blindness-inducing rage” she feels by adding that “Rosneft has said that oil produced from the Vostok project is ‘environmentally friendly’” because the company plans to power its extraction “with wind turbines”?

What do ordinary people think of these grandiose plans – all made “in their best interest” by the enlightened? Britons are less than enthusiastic about a government mandate to replace natural gas home heating units with heat pumps at a cost of up to US$50,000 per home. Only a few Americans have invested in electric vehicles, and 20% of them bought an internal combustion engine vehicle after turning in their EV – despite the outright bribery (huge subsidies) to “encourage” EV usage.

Noting the high price and low environmental benefits of today’s EVs, Vauxhall CEOCarlos Tavares scoffed at planners hell-bent on eliminating the internal combustion engine. “I can’t imagine a democratic society where there is no freedom of mobility because it’s only for wealthy people, and all the others will use public transport.” Personal mobility, Vauxhall argued, “should be seen as a fundamental right.”

World leaders clearly know human rights interfere with their utopian plans. Without major pushback against these draconian mandates, planners will have little trouble extending their control over just about everyone. It is a small step from banning, or simply refusing to finance or insure, fossil fuel exploration and production and new car manufacturing – to banning, or refusing to finance or insure, individual purchases of just about anything elites decide we should not have. And they’re already doing it.

Just as they lied for a year about the origins of and treatment for the “COVID-19” corona virus “for our own good,” their claims of coming catastrophes from “climate change” (no longer global warming) ring hollow. All their solutions increase their power and wealth at our expense. But we are expected to “eat our broccoli” and accept pandemic plagues while they dine at The French Laundry and fly to climate conferences in private jets.

Who the hell do they think they are? And why are we putting up with their angry, ignorant, offensive demands? Have we all just become spineless worms?

Did it all start with global cooling/warming/climate-change? With the anti-nuke movement? Who came up with all this mish-mash of demands, from cancel culture to climate calamity to Antifa, critical race theory and anti-racism? How have we become enslaved by the spiteful?

We never voted for an all-electric society that bans auto racing, gas appliances, backyard cookouts, swimming. Tell them to drop dead.

OIL GIANT EXXONMOBIL’S 12-MEMBER BOARD OF DIRECTORS REPORTEDLY HAS TWO NEW MEMBERS WHO ARE CLIMATE ACTIVISTS BACKED BY INVESTOR “ENGINE 1.”

This move to add two “climate activists” to Exxon’s Board of Directors is appalling, ignorant and dysfunctional.

Lee Raymond was the last truly competent CEO & Chairman of Exxon – he had a doctorate in chemical engineering, was very smart and very tough, and the company prospered under his leadership. He had no tolerance for climate fraudsters.

The policy of appeasement of climate fraudsters by energy companies and governments is a huge failure – as soon as they retreat, the climate extremists advance further and make new, even more outrageous demands – it is a failed strategy practiced by cowards and imbeciles, a slow, staged retreat from reality and prosperity.

As I have written to our Alberta government:
“The policy incompetence and corruption of Western governments over past decades is appalling. By attempting to appease extreme leftists who seek to destroy our economies and our freedoms, governments have adopted a failed strategy that makes us weaker, poorer and at much greater risk.”

The catastrophic human-made global warming (CAGW) crisis was never real – it was a fraud from the start, circa 1970, a fifty-year-old political scam that has grown by constant repetition, absent any scientific validity – wolves stampeding the sheep for political and financial gain.

Global warming (aka “climate”) alarmism was always a false front for the extreme-left takeover of our society and the destruction of our free-enterprise economy. Those who have acquiesced to this enviro-blackmail are fools, incapable of rational strategic analysis, who have doomed their organizations to fail.

I speak with confidence regards Exxon, since its Canadian affiliate Esso Canada was my company’s partner in three large oilsands ventures that were my responsibility.

The following was written by an esteemed colleague, one of the most respected engineers in Canada:

INITIATIVES THAT DROVE MAJOR ECONOMIC GROWTH OF SYNCRUDE CANADA, THE ALBERTA OIL SANDS AND THE CANADIAN ECONOMY

In the 1980’s and 1990’s, Allan MacRae initiated (or co-initiated) and successfully proposed three of the four major changes that drove the successful growth of the Alberta oil sands. Changes included new income tax terms, new Crown royalty terms and a low-cost 50% production increase that reduced Syncrude unit operating costs by 30%. MacRae also recommended that Syncrude acquire new leases for growth, and technical innovations that improved performance and reduced costs.

MacRae incorporated these initiatives into a comprehensive strategy for Syncrude, which was implemented and was instrumental in the successful evolution and growth of Syncrude and the Alberta oil sands industry.

The oil sands industry became the mainstay of the Canadian economy for 15 years, with over $250 billion in new capital investments and approximately 500,000 new jobs created. Canada became the fifth-largest oil producer in the world, the largest foreign supplier of energy to the USA and the most successful economy of the G8 countries.

Emissions are the result of energy production and energy production is the primary cause of human wealth and prosperity.

Hopefully all this ridiculous talk about emissions and carbon footprints will find its place on the back shelves alongside all the other bs hobgoblins that have come and gone.

Hi M.W. Plia

You might find this interesting, because what you said has actually been formalized:

The Mayans – Ruins Among the Trees

If you go back about a minute, before where I started the video, it explicitly states that the radiation coming from the Sun abruptly changed during that period and cites the Greenland Ice Cores. (a refreshing change from the CO2 controls climate nonsense).

Alas, this “ridiculous talk about emissions and carbon footprints” will continue. Only one upside to this, the talk has actually changed to- and is now about emissions and carbon footprints.

Meaning “clean” as opposed to “green”. Meaning carbon capture, utilization and “storage” (CCUS) from hydrocarbons, which will continue to be the main provider of energy-, even coal and peat-, as long as CO2 is not released.

Lots of money going into this space. Financing of the wind- and solar sector has dropped to a trickle because the wind, solar business model in a “clean” scenario is dead.

Fascism. They can’t convince individual citizens to acquiesce to their agenda, so they’ll impose it upon them via government edict or corporatism. The funny thing is that they own the government, and yet the government still doesn’t have the balls to really do what they say needs doing. I don’t think infiltrating corporations is ultimately going to be any more successful. Still more expensive for consumers to be sure. But not ultimately successful.

Hi John,
who exactly are the mysterious “they” who somehow appear to control the government
(in every country or just the US?) but still can’t get it to do what “they” apparently want?

Surely a more sensible theory would be the government acts to promote the interests of the people who “own” it rather than working against their interests.

He would mean, I presume, the billionaire classes and the corporate classes who grease the palms of politicians – financing their campaigns or providing the lucrative board jobs after they “retire”. There are many foundations such as Bill and Melinda Gates foundation that controls 10s of billions of dollars in funding to go in such places as university funding, the WHO (the second largest donator after the USA), media (eg BBC). It should not need stating that all this comes with strings attached and has an enormous corrupting influence.

I think that it has backfired quite well. The longer this goes on, the less believable it becomes, and when the lamebrained stuff like using an semiliterate teenager as your idol didn’t work, well – then you pull back, regroup and strike again.
You have to ask, logically, if most of the population is killed off by an invisible bug, who will wait on these idjits, or even listen to them?

CDC CAUGHT COOKING THE BOOKS ON COVID VACCINES
Analysis by Dr. Joseph Mercola Fact Checked June 11, 2021
https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2021/06/11/cdc-covid-vaccine.aspx

STORY AT-A-GLANCE
·   COVID-19 has been a pandemic of false positive tests; the thing that kept the fraud going was the fact that laboratories were using excessively high cycle thresholds (CTs) when processing the PCR tests, resulting in false positives

·   Now, as over 100 million Americans have been “vaccinated” against COVID-19, the CDC is lowering the CT from 40 to 28, but only when diagnosing vaccine breakthrough cases — cases where fully vaccinated individuals are diagnosed with COVID-19

·   To make matters worse, the CDC also will no longer record mild or asymptomatic infections of those who were immunized as “COVID cases.” The only cases that now count as COVID cases for someone immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine are those that result in hospitalization or death

·   While healthy people continue to be misdiagnosed as having COVID-19 when they really don’t, thanks to an excessively high CT, the CDC is simultaneously minimizing the number of breakthrough cases by using a CT that will minimize the number of false positives

·   Other countries are also manipulating data to boost COVID-19 vaccine efficacy and hide breakthrough cases. In the U.K., COVID-19 will only be listed as the cause of death if the patient actually died from an active case of COVID-19 and nothing else

Here is a really insightful follow up article to a lot of what Duggan touches on:

In Quest of a Multi-Polar World
But I think the whole world has changed so much in the last 50 years that what we have now is not really so much a conflict between America and China or America and Russia, but between a financial system economy run by finance and an economy run by governments (ie for the people)— democratic or less democratic, but certainly a mixed economy.

Every economy since Babylon and Rome has been a mixed economy, but in America you’ve had since 1980 something entirely different. That was not foreseen by anybody because it seemed to be so disruptive. And what that was, was the financial sector saying we need liberty and by liberty, meaning we have to take planning and subsidy and economic policy and tax policy out of the hands of government. And put it in the hands of Wall Street.

And so, libertarianism and free market is a centralized economy that is centralized in the hands of the financial centers, Wall Street, the City of London, the Paris Bourse. And what you’re having today is the attempt of the financial sector to take the role that the landlord class had in Europe, from feudal times through the 19th century.

But in the United States and England, you have finance becoming something completely different. Banks don’t lend money to factories. They don’t want money to make means of production. They make money to take over other assets.

https://consortiumnews.com/2021/03/26/in-quest-of-a-multi-polar-world/

And so a real WEIRDNESS has set in, where the Western Democracies are working not toward growing the Middle Class but toward helping the financial elites (disguising that with “wokeness”.). And the Autocratic countries are working toward growing the Middle Classes.

A good example of the WEIRDNESS here:

Vladimir Putin interviewed by the Financial Times | FT

“You really are on the same page as Donald Trump.”

https://youtu.be/FbY0VpyjtuI?t=5072

So, when you listen to that whole interview, Putin comes off way more sensible than any of our politicians: Biden, Pelosi, Schiff, AOC, Merkel, Macron, Trudeau, etc.

It is head spinning. (sigh)

A financialized rent seeking economy is based on making money via extractive debt and asset appreciation speculation. Thus in that type of economy, the engine that drives it depends on things like: home mortgages, car loans, student loans, credit card loans, medical, auto and life insurances, etc. That is pretty much where the majority of the “working class'” money goes, to debt service.

However, because it is so ubiquitous, we don’t question it and consider it normal. And anything that requires an “obligatory monthly payment” is fair game. And that is where climate change comes in: what are you going to do not light and heat your house, or fork over more money for expensive “green energy” or an electric car. We also don’t notice it because it has been masked over by cheap imported manufactures and food stuffs, subsidized by off-shoring factories and jobs. (Actually we do notice it because the unsustainability of the financialized economy brought DJT to office.)

However, in a mixed economy, where the government is acting for the people, the government tries to bolster the working classes by minimizing those costs: cheap energy, affordable housing, affordable education, affordable medical care, etc.

From a bank’s perspective, what is easier and requires less risk? Making loans to small businesses and entrepreneurs or making collateralized (property and government backed) real estate loans or guaranteed student loans, etc. And even General Motors noticed this when it discovered that making loans was more profitable than making automobiles.

We also don’t seem to notice that the Treasury & Federal Reserve are run by Goldman-Sachs employees in a revolving door situation. We are told, that these are the only folks with the “expertise” to run the government. (okey dokey)

From the first bit, the hedge fund’s name is Engine No. 1 The fund manifesto seems more to be aligned with positioning Exxon for a takeover by another party of new investors than shutting it down.

the Company has failed to evolve with the industry’s transition, resulting in significant underperformance to the detriment of shareholders.

We believe that for ExxonMobil to avoid the fate of other once-iconic American companies, it must better position itself for long-term, sustainable value creation.

They still have to satisfy their investors, whoever those may be (e.g. Bloomberg, Rockefeller family fund, CCP-backed whoever, family Al Saud), and making share cost low but preserving assets could position it for takeover. Their purpose ties in pretty well with the lawfare suits. It may all depend on just how long they can keep the Green nuts fooled.

Perhaps this is a power shift in an oligopoly?

It struck here very recently with this:

Headline:”Halogen lightbulb sales to be banned in UK under climate change plans“From BBC

If as they assert, the LED replacement bulbs are so fantastic, why is it necessary to go and flat-out ban the older type of bulbs?
Surely folks, even those name of ‘Shirley’, would use the new longer-lasting, cheaper to buy, cheaper to use bulbs and simply abandon the halogens and fluorescents.

To me it reveals a really deep mistrust that our elders and betters here in the UK regard the general population. UK Gov seems to think UK folks are deliberately trashing the planet, deliberately wasting money and are thus = STUPID

But wait a minute, UK Gov is very effectively handing the whole ‘trade’ of lightbulbs to the Chinese – only they make the LEDs chips, only they mould the plastic and only they assemble the things. And selling them as subsidised loss-leaders
With epic levels of obsolescence built in. They are designing and building LED bulbs that last 5 times longer than a tungsten halogen
For an LED that is insane, an LED ‘chip’ could would should keep making light for 10’s of decades if properly engineered into a bulb
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klaJqofCsu4

When Government patently mistrusts its own people, patently hates them and thinks they are more stupid than a stupid thing, where can such a situation end up?

The same, ‘You are stupid and bad – Do as you’re told attitude‘ is everywhere – it applies to cars and their fuel, food, home heating, health & covid all not least

It worries me. greatly

Yes, there’s a chance it was from a lab, but we still have no conclusive evidence: and previous outbreaks of disease have been shown to follow the animal transmission route.

Are we talking about quack remedies pushed by Trump?

In other news, Osama bin Laden has been photographed working in a bar in Shanghai, Bigfoot has given a first interview on CNN and is booked to appear on Oprah next month, Elvis was spotted at an Extinction Rebellion protest in Cornwall and Ursula von der Leyen has applied for settled status in the UK.

Climate change alarmism is as much about a “war on oil and gas” as it is about anything.

Most people who own stock don’t actually own stock. Instead, they own a piece of a ginormous mutual fund. The fund managers vote the shares. Many fund managers are just New York City activist liberals, and they are voting against the interests of their clients by supporting crackpot leftist causes with other people’s money.

Offsets should be bases on a portion of income of net worth of the average citizen. So if Bezos plane uses twice the co2 of the average citizen he can offset with twice his net worth or fly with the prols OR quit virtue signaling.

Rosneft anticipates exporting 115 million tons of oil a year by 2030 by building 15 entirely new towns for an anticipated 400,000 employees.”

Sounds to me that they’re establishing refineries and civilization support structures to accompany their oil extraction efforts.

I’d have a moratorium on oil and gas production to awaken the numbed majority. Re insurance, set up a blockchain non profit insurance that is sold to people when they buy their vehicles, or want to insure fossil fuel production. Gather some brains to design a system (customer-owned?). Don’t call it insurance to avoid rules and regs.

Eventually Lloyds, etc. would be out in the street. You can’t have know-nothing academic climate hysterics and politicians running sophisticated businesses. Maybe were seeing an unsuspected big reset of the fatted heritage industry players including Exxon, Big Tech etc. Champaign socialists may well go broke, too.

I can’t imagine a democratic society where there is no freedom of mobility

Isn’t that pretty much the point? No democratic societies.

Have we all just become spineless worms?

Have you been watching lately? Yes.

“This may appear to be a war on big oil and gas, but in reality the war is against citizens who cherish their vehicles, appliances, jobs, living standards and freedoms.”

And why don’t they just make my car and heating my house illegal if it’s so dangerous? After all, as the end consumer who seeks out this awful planet-killing product, am I not the real villain?

Because they don’t have the guts to do that. They can’t afford to be transparent. So they’ll do it through intermediaries. Cowards!
