Reminds me of when I would come home from work and my 20 year old cat would slowly walk across the living room and then jump up onto my lap and be there for the rest of the night. I would move her to get up and do things but she would just stay where I set her and crawl right back on me when I sat down. I still miss that cat and she's been gone for 10 years, but how can you not miss a cat you got in grade school who was still there when you graduated college?

This was how my 19 year old cat was. She loved laps and she would just lay there and purr until she fell asleep. Until you moved slightly then she would start up purring again. We lost her a couple days after thanksgiving in 2020. I had her from age 16 to 35.

Not a cat, but my toy poodle Sophie made it to 17. Had her from when I was 10 until I was 27. She passed a couple weeks ago, and I've yet to break the habit of going to pick her up from the foot of the couch so she could sit on the couch with me like she always did.

I know those feels.

I just lost the second of two girls I'd had since I was 5 (I'm 20). The other passed almost exactly a year before. Kinda feels like I just buried my childhood in the backyard, but I'm still really glad I had all that time to grow up with them, side by side.

You can’t.

my cat has been all the way up from kindergarten to University with me, i don't keep her too close to me since I've discovered lately that I am alergic to cats however i am very attached to her and i can't even think of when I'll have to let her go

22 years together? Can a cat even live that long?

u/monty_kurns avatar

More than you’d think can make it to that age. 15+ is perfectly normal for a well cared for cat and a cat making it over 20 isn’t completely unheard of.

My family had a couple of 20+ y/o cats when I was growing up..so did one of my best friends. I've definitely known a few that made it to 20-21-22. My former roommate's cat is about 19 and still doing fine :)

u/Doxxxxxxxxxxx avatar

Yeah! I adopted mine at 15, and she will be 20 this year :D

Yes! Some do. In fact, the oldest cat ever recorded lived up to 38 years.

My cats lived to be 23, 18, and 11 (died from lymphoma unfortunately). The point is cats can live to be quite old. My current one is 15 and she still moves like she did when she was 7.

Didn't expect to cry this evening. I lost my calico to disease after 13 great years. So happy for this person to have 22 years. Rest easy, Susannah.

I lost my Siamese during the pandemic and he was 15. I feel cheated because that’s the low end of the estimated age for his breed. I miss him. It’s wonderful to see the relationship is still strong with OP and their kitty!

D'aww. Precious Old girl ☺️

She looks like my little 6 month girl but a little bit chonkier. So sweet. Im excited for my 3 year old to grow up with her.

Reminds me of my 20 year old girl. Deaf/blind but still so patient and loving. Got her when I was 13 and lost her at 33. Stayed with me the entire time through school, college, marriage, and 7 moves, one cross country. Her last few years were rough with kidney failure but she was such a great cat all the way til the end.

Dude really looks like an off-brand Tom Hiddleston.

So great! Amazing bond!

Nosy rubbing time! Adorable baby!

This is beautiful. I can dream

My 1 year old cat does this to me. All I can think about after seeing this is how devastated I’m going to be when he gets to this point in his life. Such amazing pets
