Some Illinoisans are reporting having trouble accessing information to learn about unemployment benefit opportunities with so many off work due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
During his daily briefing Monday, Governor JB Pritzker said the state found out the hard way it's previous online system wasn't ready to handle the volume of applications coming in.
"The systems we had that were supporting the online applications wasn't robust enough to take all the applications that were coming in at one time. So, we're porting that system entirely over to a much more expansive foundational software system and server."
People also report having trouble getting in touch with someone over the phone and Pritzker said he thinks the newly improved online method is the way to go due to the volume of applications.
