Little Children Suing 33 Governments

Using children for political purposes is child abuse. So why is the BBC giving credibility to this latest venture?

According to the Guardian:

Young activists from Portugal have filed the first climate change case at the European court of human rights in Strasbourg, demanding 33 countries make more ambitious emissions cuts to safeguard their future physical and mental wellbeing.

The crowdfunded legal action breaks new ground by suing multiple states both for the emissions within their borders and also for the climate impact that their consumers and companies have elsewhere in the world through trade, fossil-fuel extraction and outsourcing.

The plaintiffs – four children and two young adults – want the standard-setting court to issue binding orders on the 33 states, which include the EU as well as the UK, Norway, Russia, Turkey, Switzerland and Ukraine, to prevent discrimination against the young and protect their rights to exercise outdoors and live without anxiety.

The case is being filed after Portugal recorded its hottest July in 90 years. It was initiated three years ago following devastating forest fires in Portugal that killed over 120 people in 2017. Four of the plaintiffs are from Leiria, one of the worst-hit areas. The two other applicants live in Lisbon, which sweltered through record-breaking 44C heat in 2018.

It is self evident that the kids did not bring the action themselves, but that they were put up to it. The legal action is being funded by a far left outfit called Global Legal Action Network, which specialises in human rights law.

The children say they want they want the “same luxuries as the generations of our parents had. That should be good then!

As for burning up, Lisbon summers are barely hotter now than in the 1940s:

There is a fundamental issue at stake in this case and others like it. Western societies are run on a system called democracy. What right do these children or the Court of Human Rights have to overturn policies made by a democratically elected government?

FOOTNOTE

If these kids really wanted to sue somebody for infringement of human rights. maybe it should be the EU for being directly responsible for that spike in extreme poverty after 2010, brought on of course by its austerity policies.

Probably one of the children that wrote (copy and paste) this piece

“Amount of fossil fuels burned for UK electricity falls to record low”

Does this have any connection with the current European Energy Crisis?

Just asking for a friend. 🙂

No, just to a windy day and low demand
Funny how wind and solar combined being below what coal was producing, a few weeks ago, got little mention.

2 questions for these children when giving evidence under oath:
    1. Do you understand how the whole climate system works? If so, explain it (we have all day if necessary).
    2. How long is one climate trend data point, and how many data points do you need to determine a trend over geological history (trick question, I know, but absolutely to the point)?

‘What right do these children or the Court of Human Rights have to overturn policies made by a democratically elected government?’

Fair point. But I like the schadenfreude from countries passing stupid laws then getting sued when they don’t follow their own laws.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Global Legal Action Network must have deep pockets. Outcome predictable , I guess.

    • December 31, 2021 3:20 pm

It is taxpayers that have deep pockets, the govt funds the legal system, and there is always a feeding frenzy when govt provides a deep trough of money.

Today’s children are the luckiest ever with a standard of living that we could only have dreamt of in the 40s and 50s.
However if they persist in their energy policies we we and they will end up where we were in 1947.
Do they really want to end up with the weather and living standards that their their grandparents had?

The Guardian hot line to the BBC is alive and well.
Adults getting children to do their work is what happened in the past, and now in the present it seems. The irony.

This nonsense undoubtedly has the potential of creating from the thinnest of wedge ends an almost limitless stream of time wasting and trouble causing litigation.
Various forms of human rights law have invariably proven to be nothing more than a haven for criminals and a golden honeypot for lawyers and it is to the discredit of so many British political leaders who have promised during election campaigns to rid us of them but reneged once the votes have been counted.

I think on those signs in the back of some vehicles suggesting anyone following should ‘Hang back, Child on board’, or put more simply ‘Mind my child’, a heartfelt sentiment, protective and caring on a window sticker. A waste of materials, a pretence conjured by the criminally insane. I refuse to be instructed by daft messages such as those. I refuse not to crash into the vehicle in front simply because they command me not too. They may hold that the message did the trick, should their off-spring reach maturity. There is a lot of that sort of shamanism going on. It is my intention not to crash into anyone’s car, but not because my recklessness has been uncovered. I may be odd in that thought, but that it has always been my primary driving intention, whether there is a child present or not, to avoid crashes. If I do crash into them I shall put it down to the distraction of daft messaging in the back windows of the cars I’m following. A vision becomes a reality in the minds of the great blob, like they have watched too much Shrek! Infantile minds rule the roost. They have no shame in pursuing the apocryphal musings of others or not bothering to study the facts; they love a mantra that just rolls off the tongue, end of.

Climate extremists have been targeting children for a long time now, this is just another turn of the same wheel. It’s an irrelevant, empty gesture, designed to gain headlines in the left leaning press. Just like most of the extremists campaigning.

Meanwhile the real world ponders how long it will be before the lights start going out in Europe.

    • December 31, 2021 5:10 pm

Problem is, its not ‘irrelevant’ as it’s part of the Goebels style messaging, and, however false and untrue, the continual drip drip slowly makes the falsity seem real and true in peoples’ minds. And that’s the real danger, that once that has happened, no amount of actual truth will dissuade them.

        True.

        Consider this from Theodore Dalrymple:

“I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control.”

It is called a social movement. A great many people believe it so the elected governments act accordingly. Nor do I understand who “we” is in your “we have allowed”? A lot of we are believers.

Environmentalism has been steadily gaining political power for 60 years, much like communism did 100 years ago or so. I like to think that they are about to expire from an excess of their own principles, specifically trying to stop fire, which our civilization is still based on. But at the moment they are very powerful.

“the same luxuries as the generations of our parents had.” The usual Greta-level weaponised ignorance. At risk of sounding like the ‘Four Yorkshiremen’, I was born just post-war into food rationing, no fridge, certainly not a freezer, a wash tub with a hand-cranked mangle, an orange from Father Christmas if lucky, a family death in the recently ended war, yet we were happy simply to get on with the mundanities of daly life and thankful for what we did have. Oh those luxuries.

    • December 31, 2021 10:51 pm

      “Luxury” 🤣
I remember having to carry a mug of hot water from the kitchen to the bathroom at night to wash with; by to refill the coal scuttle, and ‘go’ on the outside loo. If that’s what these kids want, let them have it, but leave the rest of us alone.

You ask “What right do these children or the Court of Human Rights have to overturn policies made by a democratically elected government?” Here in the US the Supreme Court routinely overturns new laws as unconstitutional. You got nothing like that? It is part of our “checks and balances” system. Also our President is not even an MP, much less PM. This is all designed to make the kind of thing BoJo is doing much harder. Maybe it works!

demanding 33 countries make more ambitious emissions cuts to safeguard their future physical and mental wellbeing

What *proof* can they offer the court that emissions cuts are the answer to, or can prevent, their alleged future problems?

    • January 1, 2022 11:25 am

‘Future’ & ‘proof’ are a contradiction of terms, so they cannot possibly provide any proof.

  27. January 1, 2022 12:33 pm

Surely it is time for us to bring forward a class action to fight for our right to have reliable, affordable energy and the right to not have our economy ruined by our government adopting ridiculous and unattainable policies. Where are the billionaires who agree with us and are willing to fund this action? – Or are they all captivated by the left?
