'The Flash' Star 16-Year-Old Logan Williams Official Cause Of Death Deemed 'Accidental', Linked To Fentanyl
Over a year after the shocking death of 16-year-old The Flash star Logan Williams, the Coroner's Service Of British Columbia — responsible for investigating any unnatural or suspicious passings —has released the official cause of death.
The New York Post exclusively obtained the coroner's report on Wednesday, September 8, which noted the teen's unfortunate passing was accidental due to “unintentional illicit drug toxicity (fentanyl).”
The report explained the toxicological analysis done on Williams found fentanyl in his system “in a range where lethal outcomes have been reported.” It continued on, saying that “even small amounts of fentanyl” can be potentially fatal to the victim.
It continued on to say the young actor had a past that included mental illness and “a history of consuming illicit substances.”
This was not the successful actor's first brush with tragic results associated with drug abuse. Only months before his death, he used an unnamed substance that resulted in serious trauma.
He was found unresponsive after use on February 26, 2020. Though he was safely resuscitated and given medical attention, Williams was sadly “diagnosed with a significant brain injury that affected his memory and functioning.”
The coroner's report also confirmed he declined help from the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) back in 2019. “Support services were provided including residential treatment; however, Logan often declined to participate.”
The MCFD is British Colombia's child protection service, devoted to supporting the health and safety of Canada's youth.
Williams is most remembered for his roles as Barry Williams in The Flash, Miles Montgomery in When Calls The Heart, and for a one episode appearance as Max Johnson in The CW's hit fantasy drama Supernatural.
The teen's mother, Marlyse Williams, spoke about his tragic passing and struggles with mental health, noting that auditions were "way too stressful" for the up and coming actor.
Though she found out about his addictions early on in his teen-hood and attempted to get him help, she claimed her son was “in complete denial because he was so ashamed.” This resulted in him refusing help.
“I did everything humanly possible — everything a mother could do,” she admitted in the interview. “I did everything but handcuff him to me to try to keep him safe.”
Still, the grieving mother hopes his passing will bring awareness to the issues of mental illness and drug addiction. “His death is not going to be in vain. He’s going to help a lot of people down the road.”
