ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The chief of staff to Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara has left his administration, according to an announcement on Monday.

The announcement says Chief of Staff Wester Wuori supported the overall work of the city and assisted the mayor and aldermen in working with and serving internal and external stakeholders and fulfilling commitments to citizens, partners and the city council.

“Wester was by my side as I took office in 2017 and has been a critical part of my team for the last four years,” McNamara said. “He was instrumental in a number of key initiatives for the City, including coordinating our most recent Census campaign and leading our efforts to create the Rockford Promise initiative – allowing Rockford Public School students the opportunity to attend Northern Illinois University tuition free. His depth of knowledge and experience, his communications skills, as well as his critical thinking and thoughtful approach to problem solving, has been key to our success.”

Wouri also spoke on his departure.

“It was an incredible honor to work with Mayor McNamara, the City Council and City staff in serving the residents of our great community,” Wuori said. “I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished to move Rockford forward despite many challenges, including civil unrest and the COVID pandemic. Mayor McNamara built a fantastic team and I learned so much working with him and all the City staff members who are incredibly talented and completely committed to the success of the community.”
