An argument broke out between two pairs of women over the last notebook on the shelf at the Novi Towne Center store, according to police. The fight involved two Farmington Hills residents, ages 46 and 32, and a mother and daughter from South Lyon, ages 51 and 20. The two Farmington Hills women were shopping for school supplies, and when one of them reached for the last notebook on the shelf, a South Lyon woman also reached for it. Police told the Free Press that it was the 20-year-old who reached for it. The two women pulled the 20-year-oldâ€™s hair, and the woman's mother was pushed aside before pulling out a gun. Two individuals were involved in an altercation in the parking lot at which time a subject identified as Rubelash Gilmore produced a shotgun and fired one shot into the ground. "A passenger says there was nothing to provoke police to fatally shoot an unarmed Army National Guardsman driving on a New York City highway.

Diane Deferrari says the bullet that struck Noel Polanco in the abdomen narrowly missed her. She said uniformed officers pointed their guns through her open window.

She said the officers were yelling obscenities before pulling their car over near LaGuardia Airport on Thursday.

Deferrari said one of the officers told her: "Your friend shot himself."

An off-duty police officer, Vanessa Rodriguez, was asleep in the back seat. She was awakened by the gunshot.

Police say it's unclear what prompted Det. Hassam Hamdy to shoot.

Deferrari said she complied with an order to raise her hands, but the driver's hands remained on the wheel."

" Police in Taiwan said Tuesday that a 31-year-old 
woman has killed herself by inhaling poisonous 
fumes while chatting with friends on Facebook and 
that none of her friends alerted authorities.

Taipei police officer Hsieh Ku-ming said Claire 
Lin killed herself on her birthday, March 18. 
Hsieh said family members reported the suicide 
soon after her death but were unaware of the 
Facebook conversations that accompanied it.

Lin's last Facebook entries show her chatting with 
nine friends, alerting them to her gradual 
asphyxiation. One picture uploaded from her mobile 
phone depicts a charcoal barbecue burning next to 
two stuffed animals. Another shows the room filled 
with fumes.

One friend identified as Chung Hsin, told Lin, "Be 
calm, open the window, put out the charcoal fire, 
please, I beg you."

Lin replied: "The fumes are suffocating. They fill 
my eyes with tears. Don't write me anymore."

Her last words, in Chinese, were: "Too late. My 
room is filled with fumes. I just posted another 
picture. Even while I'm dying, I still want FB 
(Facebook). Must be FB poison. Haha."

Lin's Facebook postings indicated she was unhappy 
because her boyfriend was ignoring her, and had 
failed to return home to be with her on her 
birthday. It was her boyfriend who found her body 
the following morning and alerted her family, 
Hsieh said.

Hsieh said he regretted that none of her friends 
called the police for help during the 67-minute 
episode.

But he added that it could have been difficult for 
them to pinpoint her whereabouts because of the 
nature of social media.

"It could be true that it would be hard to track 
down a Facebook friend without her address or 
phone contact," Chen said.

Chai Ben-rei, a sociologist at Taiwan's Feng Chia 
University, said the incident reflected social 
isolation in the Internet age."- AP
