Money, Power, and Fame Threaten to Tear Wu-Tang Clan Apart in the New "American Saga" Trailer

One of the greatest hip-hop stories ever told on TV, "Wu-Tang: An American Saga," is returning for its third and final season next month, and we finally have a first look at the show's new trailer. The season three preview, which arrived on Jan. 11, teases a flashy upgrade for the whole Wu-Tang Clan, but with new money, power, and fame at their disposal, the group fights to stay together as they're on the brink of success.

In the weeks leading up to "Wu-Tang: An American Saga"'s return, Hulu began teasing updates about season three, starting with an official release date on Dec. 14, 2022, followed by more highly anticipated details and first-look photos on Jan. 5 outlining how the series will conclude the tale of the legendary hip-hop group's rise to the top.

Now, by no means will "Wu-Tang: An American Saga"'s final season cover the group's entire journey up until the present day, but it will highlight the highs and lows of their five-year plan in the mid-'90s following the release of their seminal 1993 debut album, "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)." Moreover, viewers will also get to see how the Wu brothers navigate "money, fame, ego, and business" as they cement their legacy in the music world.

The second season of "Wu-Tang: An American Saga" came to an end in October 2021. The dramatized hit series first debuted in 2019 and quickly became a fan favorite for recalling a story people have only heard bits and pieces of from members of Wu-Tang Clan over the years.

"Wu-Tang: An American Saga" is set in the '90s and loosely inspired by the formation of the famed hip-hop group. It stars Ashton Sanders and Shameik Moore, with a few Wu-Tang Clan members working behind the scenes, like RZA, who serves as cocreator and executive producer, and Method Man, who's an executive producer. Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, and GZA are also involved as consulting producers alongside the estate of the late Ol' Dirty Bastard.

In a previous interview with POPSUGAR, TJ Atoms (who plays Ol' Dirty Bastard aka ODB) revealed that he has high hopes for season three. "For the story, you're going to see what unfolds when the different members get signed to different labels," Atoms said. "And we'll see what happens when they really start doing the Wu-Tang thing for real. We're probably going to see tours and shows. A lot of performances and drama, for sure, because RZA was making all the decisions. Everybody didn't agree with RZA's decisions. I don't know if everybody [was unhappy], but I know some people were probably not as happy with RZA making decisions on their behalf, so we're going to see a lot of this and a lot of that."

Meanwhile, Siddiq Saunderson (who plays Ghostface Killah) told us that he anticipates the upcoming season will show more of Wu-Tang Clan's rise to superstardom. "Now that I'm not Dennis or D-Lover and I'm moving into Ghostface Killah, the audience [will be] part of that journey and see us re-create more of their iconic music. I'm looking forward to more of that because I think that's what sets our show apart. Our show is now very much about the music industry and less about the street life of NYC. I'm very excited for us to become the megastars of Wu-Tang in front of this audience."

"Off the release of their debut album and their continued rise to fame, we follow the Wu-Tang Clan over the course of their five-year plan as they face and overcome different challenges," the show's synopsis reads. "While each of the members go on separate journeys to figure out where they fit in the music world, RZA struggles to stay on top of things in order to fulfill the promise he made to his Wu brothers. As money, fame, ego, and business threaten to tear the group apart, they must find a way to come together and cement their legacy."

Sanders (Bobby/RZA), Moore (Raekwon), Saunderson (Dennis/Ghostface Killah), Atoms (Ol' Dirty Bastard), Dave East (Method Man), Johnell Young (GZA), Uyoata Udi (Inspectah Deck), and Damani Sease (U-God) will all reprise their roles as members of Wu-Tang Clan in season three. Others returning for the final season include Julian Elijah Martinez, who plays Divine; Marcus Callender as Power; and Zolee Griggs starring as Shurrie.

Season three will also welcome some familiar faces as guest stars, including King Combs, who portrays his father Diddy, and "Empire" alum Serayah in an unknown role, per the show's trailer.

The show's final season kicks off with three new episodes on Feb. 15, followed by weekly releases every Wu-Wednesday until the finale airs on April 5.
