Chelsea Handler Reveals She Tore Meniscus While Skiing, But Suits Up Again To Hit The Slopes Anyway

It looks like nothing can keep Chelsea Handler from the slopes, not even a torn meniscus! The comedian shared a series of videos from her ski adventures at the Whistler Blackcomb resort in British Columbia, Canada, on Sunday, March 21.

Besides showing off some of her more triumphant moments, Handler, 46, also shared a comical video of herself, which her friend took, half-buried in a snowdrift after she fell on the mountain. "I ski so many days a year and I keep falling like this!" she quipped while still submerged in the snow. "I skied into one tree today." 

In the clip, Handler explained that ski patrol was luckily with her when she took her tumble; however, he had to "take a call" while she was stuck in the "tree well."

"It's just ridiculous. I got no respect on the mountain." Handler joked of the incident.

The blonde beauty appeared to laugh off the fall; however, later that night, Handler told her 4.1 million followers that she probably has a "torn meniscus" and "two broken toes" following her outing on the mountains. "One's definitely broken," she speculated, adding that "the other one might just be in a bad mood."

And while her arm "broke a tree," she joked, Handler feels confident that she can "ski down almost anything," as she explained on her Instagram Story.

Despite the battle scars, Handler seems to be handl-ing things well — she took to the slopes just one day after her fall. She shared a video of herself with her four friends looking at the mountain they just skied down on Monday. While in a chair lift, the Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea author clarified what she said earlier after she received emails from concerned pals questioning if she was OK.

"I don't have a new torn meniscus," Handler said before speculating that "it's probably new, but it's not an accident." She explained that she was just sharing her "thoughts" on her injuries with her "Instagram buddies," and now everyone is blowing up her email and social media to check in.

A torn meniscus is one of the "most common knee injuries," and can take place during "any activity that causes you to forcefully twist or rotate your knee, especially when putting your full weight on it," according to the Mayo Clinic.

Handler has been enjoying the snowy mountains for months now after she first touched down in Canada towards the beginning of ski season last year. Upon her arrival, Handler outlined a series of COVID-19 regulations to follow while skiing amid the pandemic.

After telling her Instagram followers that this ski season is going to be a little more "f*cked up" than previous seasons, Handler said "there's going to be no Après," so "if you go skiing, do not go and mingle and slam your juice into somebody else's mouth just because you're excited that you went down a double black diamond, okay?"

To conclude her COVID-19 safety post, Handler advised everyone to "ski safely, with double masks on and no penetration."
