CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
The Residents’ Association of the M.K.O Abiola Garden, Alausa area of Ikeja,
Lagos, may have walked themselves into trouble after they reportedly conspired
and demolished the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG parish in the area
with properties worth millions of Naira destroyed.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the association between 8th and 20th January, 2020, went to the Church’s parish, removed the roof, threw out the Church properties and they got damaged over an undisclosed disagreement between the Church and the association.
The alleged destruction and forceful eviction was
reported to the Police at Alausa Division and the chairman of the association,
Major Otunba Oyin Adedeji, was arrested and charged before the Court for
conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, conspiracy and malicious
damage.
The Police alleged that Adedeji, who is the chairman of the association, and
others now at large invaded the place, removed the roof of the Church and threw
out the properties outside.
P.M.EXPRESS was yet to confirm if the Church rented
the property from the association and owed rent before such action was taken.
Police sources said that there was no valid Court judgement before Adedeji
went to the Church with others, suspected to be thugs now at large and
demolished the church.
Adedeji was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged
that offence.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Benson Emerhi, asked the Court
to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that he actually
committed the offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O Sule-Amzat, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000
with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail
conditions. The matter was adjourned till 24th February, 2020.
