Good luck to us all in the upcoming Australian elections. May sanity prevail.

Over here on my side of the Pond, President Trump will be attending a rally in Casper, Wyoming (where I live) to promote a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, Harriet Hageman, who is hoping to replace Liz Cheney in the Primary Election. The rally is on 28 May. My younger grandson and I have free tickets to the rally, which, if preliminary information is correct, has the potential to be ‘standing room only’ at our local indoor multi-purpose facility. It seats about 20,000, which is the proper size for a city the size of Casper, but obviously much smaller than the typical Trump rally.

Peace, prosperity, and good health to all JoNovians,

    Vlad

Vlad, (off topic even for an off topic Unthreaded)

      Casper Wyoming.

Many years ago, I read one of the novels in the Walt Longmire series, and as a fan, I then saw the TV series on one of the Commercial channels here in Oz. That channel only took one Series, and even then, It was late night, well very late night really, and they dropped the series after that one series. When our Son first put us onto our first streaming service, Netflix, I found ALL of those Longmire series and we watched every episode, as my good lady wife was also a fan of Longmire.

While I loved crime fiction, I was also enamored of the Wyoming ‘setting’. In this Longmire series, and in the more recent Yellowstone (drama) series, one of the better parts of both series is the way they highlight the area, which is so beautiful. (Not that Australia isn’t just that this is a kind of beauty we don’t see here)

That was really highlighted to me when I saw the (British) Documentary also titled Yellowstone, a three part series showing the (weather) seasons in the National Park.

While I like to watch and see what it’s like, I also like to read about it as well, in fiction. One novel I have read is Larry McMurtry’s ‘Lonesome Dove’, while not set wholly in Montana, it still gives a ‘picture’ of the times, as well as the setting, and another novel in the half dozen on my bookshelf still waiting to be read is George Black’s Empire Of Shadows, historically based fiction centred around the Yellowstone National Park.

You live in such a beautiful area.

      Tony.

PostScript – That Documentary is still able to be accessed on Netflix, (for those of you who have it) and I thoroughly recommend it.

It’s the Flu Season in Australia now so how about counting and comparing how many people are dying from the Flu, the so called Virus and now the monkey business virus.

I hope someone comes to the fore in the Republican Party who is younger than Trump and more rational, radical, able to drain the swamp, less egotistical and more aware of the importance of allies than Trump was. Anyone on the horizon for the Presidential candidate ?

Jim DeSantis, Governor of Florida, has been mentioned. My sister lives in Ft. Meyers (not far from Tampa Bay) and would hate to lose him as their Governor.

Personally, Trump’s actions, results, and policies overwhelm any and all aspects of his (nominally) flawed personality. The four years he had, our standard of living had stopped getting worse (I’m retired) as it was under Hussein, and now we’re back to Hussein on steroids. Things get much worse, I may have to try to find some employment of some type, and cancel a long-planned trip to see my older brother (it’s one of those, ‘now or never’ situations — — we’re both getting older, and it is obvious that our remaining time here on this planet is NOT measured in decades … … ). My wife has brought up looking for something part-time as well. Supposedly, our buying power has only declined some 8% – 12% since the first of the year, but it feels a lot more like it is 30% – 40%. Everything I had set aside for the round-trip to see my brother will be used up, as of now, just getting there. I’ve approached him and his wife for the possibility that they might need to chip in something to ‘help out’, but they’re not much better off than I am.

      It’s a rock and a hard place … … … … … …

Here is an excellent video on how the United States was intended to be a “republic” rather than a “democracy”. i.e. it was not intended by the founding fathers to be an ochlocracy (mob rule).

    https://youtu.be/6tq_VDp2CKo

This idea ties in with the following quote, misattributed to Alexander Tytler.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.

(For discussion about origin of that quote see https://www.lorencollins.net/tytler.html)

After the election the LibLabGreen uniparty will sign Australia into the draconian WHO Pandemic Treaty.

    https://spectator.com.au/2022/05/australia-set-to-sign-genevas-global-pandemic-treaty/

Australia set to sign Geneva’s Global Pandemic Treaty

    17 May 2022 12:10 PM

The ‘New Normal’ of medical fascism is coming regardless of how Australians vote at the federal election.

Having acquired a taste for globalised control during the Covid pandemic, the World Health Organisation has teamed up with vaccine manufacturers, philanthropic billionaires, and power-crazed world leaders to create a ‘Global Pandemic Treaty’ in Geneva.

It is set to form part of the ‘one health’ approach proposed by the WHO and has been pitched by its creators as a way to overcome the inconvenient battle between – as they put it – globalism and statism.

According to International Affairs who were reviewing the treaty, the globalist approach ‘shares many overlapping values with that of a transnational cosmopolitan, medical humanitarianism or moral egalitarian world-view, rooted in the Kantian logic of universal community’ while the statist approach is a nationalist one that might ‘undermine’ global efforts.

In June of 2021, Scott Morrison commented on the proposed treaty, saying:

‘It’s essential that we strengthen global (disease) surveillance and provide the World Health Organisation with the authority and the capacity to do this important job for all the peoples of the world. If we are to deliver on this ambitious reform agenda, then we must work together and put other issues aside.’

Yes, the same Prime Minister who attempted to escape criticism by saying ‘there’s no such thing as vaccine mandates’ is champing at the bit to grant the WHO absolute control over the health choices of Australian citizens. It amounts to extending similar emergency powers to the WHO that Daniel Andrews gifted himself in Victoria – except Australians can’t vote the WHO out of power. As for Labor, they have laid down at the feet of the WHO, tummies up and paws in the air like dogs waiting for a rub.

Ridiculous Federal 4th grade reading tests
    By David Wojick
    https://www.cfact.org/2022/05/18/ridiculous-federal-4th-grade-reading-tests/

They are testing for things that are not taught, especially prior knowledge and unnamed inference types. This does not measure reading ability. Plus we cannot see what kids are getting wrong, so no way to learn! Utterly ridiculous.

    81

    • #
      Robert Swan

Even if the testing method wasn’t ridiculous, what’s the point of trying to rank reading comprehension state by state? The detail that you might act on — student by student, or teacher by teacher — is lost, and all you get to do is blame/praise the government. Maybe that is the point.

COVID UPDATE: What is the truth?

    Russell L. Blaylock

The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the most manipulated infectious disease events in history, characterized by official lies in an unending stream lead by government bureaucracies, medical associations, medical boards, the media, and international agencies.[3,6,57] We have witnessed a long list of unprecedented intrusions into medical practice, including attacks on medical experts, destruction of medical careers among doctors refusing to participate in killing their patients and a massive regimentation of health care, led by non-qualified individuals with enormous wealth, power and influence.

For the first time in American history a president, governors, mayors, hospital administrators and federal bureaucrats are determining medical treatments based not on accurate scientifically based or even experience based information, but rather to force the acceptance of special forms of care and “prevention”—including remdesivir, use of respirators and ultimately a series of essentially untested messenger RNA vaccines. For the first time in history medical treatment, protocols are not being formulated based on the experience of the physicians treating the largest number of patients successfully, but rather individuals and bureaucracies that have never treated a single patient—including Anthony Fauci, Bill Gates, EcoHealth Alliance, the CDC, WHO, state public health officers and hospital administrators.[23,38]

The media (TV, newspapers, magazines, etc), medical societies, state medical boards and the owners of social media have appointed themselves to be the sole source of information concerning this so-called “pandemic”.

I like Musks response. He has simply said ” If I have exposed myself then you can describe any scars, tattoos or other things about me that are not general knowledge”

      101

  • #

The Left are evil (correct word) and powerful and will do whatever they can to destroy an advocate of free speech and freedom in general. (Look what they did to Trump.)

Why wasn’t the accusation against Musk made before – in 2016 when it allegedly happened? Who is paying the accuser to say these things?

He doesn’t have to buy Twitter if it turns out its owners lied about the number of fake accounts, which they probably did. (E.g. about 50% of Biden’s supposed 47 million followers are bots.)

If he doesn’t end up buying it due to the fake accounts, he can walk away leaving it a smouldering, demoralised wreck full of whimpering Leftist snowflakes. Or he can make another offer at a huge discount reflecting the lesser number of accounts.

Don’t forget, Twitter as it is set up is not really a viable, profitable business. It is a subsidised political propaganda weapon of the Left and they stand to lose one of their most powerful tools that can make or break a President of the United States or other treachery.

Just as Obama told coal miners to “learn to code” when shutting down their industry, if Musk does buy Twitter, the snowflakes could learn to do something honourable and useful such as cleaning up litter or graffiti.

    “What is the Full Cost?”

Mostly on electricity but starts with dogs

” “LCOE is inadequate to compare intermittent forms of energy generation with dispatchable ones and when making decisions at a country or society level. We introduce and describe the methodology for determining the full cost of electricity (FCOE) or the full cost to society. FCOE explains why wind and solar are not cheaper than conventional fuels and in fact become more expensive the higher their penetration in the energy system. The IEA confirms ‘…the system value of variable renewables such as wind and solar decreases as their share in the power supply increases’. This is illustrated by the high cost of the ‘green’ energy transition.” ”

Talk about deadly obesity risks in America? Fat chance

Is it fun to be fat? That´s what Cosmopolitan magazine claimed in February 2021. That month’s cover was of a morbidly obese woman looking cheerful while attempting some acrobatics. The headline: “This is healthy! 11 women on why wellness doesn’t have to be one size fits all.”

The timing could hardly have been worse. After all, this was in a period when the Coronavirus was leading to lockdowns around the world. And one thing we knew very early about the virus was that one of the main factors that lead to hospitalizations and even death was if the patient was fat. Almost nothing in the often confusing COVID era was ever as clear as this. Nearly 80% of Americans who were hospitalized with COVID were obese. And just as being obese put you at special risk from the virus, so losing weight lessened your chances of being hospitalized.

But you can tell a lot about a society by what it will not say. And through the whole of the last two years almost nobody in any position of authority dared issue any public lessons about this.

By contrast, there was very scant evidence that a little cloth mask could save you from the virus. Yet we were all forced to wear them. There was no evidence that children were at any risk from the virus. Yet we shut all the schools. But when it came to the question of obesity and the virus nobody dared say anything.

Most likely because America is the fattest country in the western world.

The facts on that are also painfully plain. An estimated 40% of Americans — that is 138 million people — are overweight. The only country near us is New Zealand, where 30% of the population are overweight.

Sabrina Strings of the University of California explores “The racist roots of fatphobia.” And she has even managed to claim that this “phobia” goes back to — you’ll never guess — “slavery.”

“While many believe that fatphobia is a relatively recent invention” says Strings, “I will underscore the centrality of slavery and race science in its perpetuation throughout the western world.”

Beware the E-bike menace in NYC — they must be banned

Could be Manly Beach where kids run out from parked cars to cross Bicycle/Pedestrian pathway where e bikes exceed road speed limit of 30 Km/hr

Are you about to cross the street? Look both ways — and pray.

The e-bike swarm makes a stroll to the other side so risky, it’s a wonder that pedestrians aren’t required to sign a liability release before stepping off the curb.

The menace that sets New Yorkers scrambling for their lives at every corner calls for only one solution:

Ban e-bikes completely, no matter how much car-hating bike advocates scream and impatient New Yorkers gripe about their General Tso’s chicken taking a few minutes longer to arrive.

New Yorkers must watch out for muggers and crazies lurking under scaffolds and on subway platforms. Now, since the state legalized e-bikes in 2020, we put our lives on the line every time we step out of our homes in broad daylight. It will be even worse as spring turns to summer. Citi Bikes just began rolling out 1,500 more, fancier e-bikes to its 5,000-strong fleet.

The new e-bikes have handlebar LED screens to show speed and directions. Imagine, riders who rarely bother to look left or right can now focus all their attention on a tiny, handlebars-mounted screen with sound!

Incredibly, e-bike riders don’t need licenses. But the two-wheel terrors are a license to kill and maim.

The city that closes restaurants over a dead fly winks at the electric-powered “pedal-boosting” bikes that bear down on hapless pedestrians at 25 mph — silently, often from the wrong direction, and frequently on sidewalks (where not even regular bikes are allowed).

Dow Jones Industrial Average On Longest Losing Streak Since 1932

After a promising start to morning trading, the major stock indexes turned sharply negative Friday with the S&P 500 tumbling into bear market territory and the Dow Jones Industrial Average setting up for the longest streak of weekly losses since the Great Depression.

And then stocks turned around again, to end the day mostly flat.

The Dow ended the day nearly flat, which brings its weekly decline to 2.77 percent. This was eighth consecutive weekly loss for the index. That is the longest losing streak since 1932.

Even Democrats Are Getting Sick of Presidentish Joe Biden

Presidentish Joe Biden keeps setting new records. Record gas prices, record inflation rates, record wage losses.

And now a new record-low approval rating, even among Democrats, according to the Associated Press.

“Only 39% of U.S. adults approve of Biden’s performance as president,” NORC Center for Public Research says in its latest poll for AP.

That’s bad. But it gets even worse when you dig deeper than the headline number.

Only two in 10 Americans say the country is headed in the right direction, a terrible barometer for a Democrat Party seeking desperately to hold on to power with razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate. That’s down from three in ten just a month ago.”

“Those drops,” the AP says, “were concentrated among Democrats, with just 33% within the president’s party saying the country is headed in the right direction, down from 49% in April.

In other words, Biden had already lost about as many Republicans and independents as possible, so every new low he hits will mostly come from his own base deserting him in ever-greater numbers.

Now that covid has all but disappeared from public scrutiny I took a look at a few statistics.

covidlive gives today’s figures for Victoria as 11925 new infections, 552 hospitalisations, 25 in ICU and 7 on ventilators. And there was me thinking that Omicron had reduced the virus to nothing more than a case of the sniffles.

worldometer puts Australia in 4th place for new infections with 49,921 behind the USA with 76,077, Taiwan with 85,761 and DPRK with 263,380.

Election 2022: Whoever wins, let’s hold our politicians to account

          Summed up

Yes, the most extraordinary, most ridiculous, most expensive peacetime catastrophe in this nation’s history passed unremarked upon. And this when Covid cases are soaring way beyond the numbers that saw us terrified and confined to our cages less than 12 months ago.

Things are getting back to normal for them, and that’s another tragedy in the making. </strong>

            Here’s why.

The only way we could compound the disaster we’ve suffered at the hands of our worthless politicians and bureaucrats, the state-sponsored oppression that hid their woeful incompetence, would be a failure to hold those responsible to account. We had opportunities while the damage was being done to challenge it, but we wasted them. The media must shoulder much of the blame, attending press conferences to parrot and amplify the already exaggerated and incontinent fearmongering.

What misery might our journalists have averted had they spent a fragment of their time researching the facts, questioning authority and informing their audience – you know, doing their jobs?

Instead they, we, were complicit in normalising the excessive response to what some of us then suspected – and most of us now know – was a disease nowhere near deadly enough to justify the panic. The tiny figures for excess deaths recently released by the World Health Organisation make that case very eloquently.

Because you find what you look for. 500 actual hospitalisations in 6 million people doesn’t seem that bad to me. I wonder how different it is to a flu/pneumonia season.

      1. How many people have died from or with this virus this year?
      2. How many people have died from heart related diseases or strokes this year?
      3. How many ICU beds are there?

      I could go on but I won’t.

So why is S & W such a TOXIC disaster? Just spend 20 mins to watch the video and this new study proves that more S & W = ENERGY POVERTY.
But will we ever WAKE UP? We must stop S & W installations ASAP, before it’s too late.
    AGAIN here’s the video link.

      Greg in NZ

Snow-time down south and 10-15ft waves rolling up the Tasman / west coast – it is May after all. Thankfully I’m in the far far north (on that skinny sandspit at the top of the North Island pointing towards New Caledonia) and spent the day fishing (snapper trevally kahawai) with a buddy in his tinny, barefoot & shorts & T-shirt, yeah…

Driving tractors on an avocado orchard now, in NZ’s so-called Winterless North: had enough of the madding crowd, getting back to my roots (sand, surf, work, warmth), the southerners can have their freezing and their snow ‘thanks to climate change’.

      Good luck for tonight…

    What would I know..

If this new outbreak continues to grow, it will only be a matter of time before people start clamoring for vaccines. Health officials say that the existing smallpox vaccine should offer at least some protection against monkeypox, and they are already considering giving it to certain groups…

CDC officials are evaluating whether smallpox vaccine should be offered to healthcare workers treating monkeypox patients and other people who may be at “high risk” for exposure to monkeypox, McQuiston said.

Just as well they’ve got stock of vaxxes on hand for a disease that was supposedly eradicated decades ago eh…

Oh well, it’s Saturday so time to vote for the next bunch of organ grinder’s monkeys.
    Videos for tonight…

School Board Director Plans ‘Queer Night’ For Babies and Toddlers In Sex Shop

A school board director in Washington state plans to host a “Queer Youth Open Mic Night” at a sex shop and has invited children as young as toddlers and even babies to attend and participate.
“Come share and hold space for this celebration and stage for young queer voices in our community,” states a Facebook post advertising the event, encouraging all children aged “0 to 18 years old” to attend.

The real problem is that there will be parents who actually take their children to perform in front of a pack of sexual degenerates.

Quantum well solar cell clocks world record efficiency of almost 40%

Researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have broken the world record for solar cell efficiency. Reaching almost 40 percent, the new device boasts the highest efficiency recorded for any type of solar cell in real-world conditions.

The team’s new solar cell clocked an efficiency of 39.5 percent, under lighting conditions equivalent to that of the Sun. That’s an important distinction to make – other experimental solar cells have registered efficiencies as high as 47 percent, but that’s under highly concentrated light. Measuring their efficiency under “one-Sun” illumination gives a better indication of how well they might perform in the real world.

COMING SOON – Probably Posed by a Biologist?

What is a woman? The question that stumped a Supreme Court nominee now resonates through our culture. And, in a rare coup of timing, the movie What Is a Woman?, produced by the Daily Wire, starring Matt Walsh and directed by my friend Justin Folk, will be released on June 1. Matt and Justin traveled around the world, searching for the answer to a simple question that suddenly has become a puzzle.

        Simple.
A woman is a homosapien with the relevant “bits” and xx chromosomes
        OR
A male with XY chromosomes devoid of aforementioned “bits” & who can’t cut it in life as a man so pretends to be a woman.

Report confirms White House had advance knowledge of the NSBA’s ‘domestic terrorism’ letter and promised ‘we have your back’

But as word of the original letter spread people were outraged. By the end of October, the NSBA had apologized for “some of the language” in the letter. But the apology was too little, too late. Within days five state school board associations had withdrawn from the NSBA. By December the number of state associations leaving the national organization reached seventeen. That represented about 40% of the NSBA’s annual dues. By January the number had climbed to 19 and the Washington Post reported the NSBA was on the verge of a total collapse.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to help them understand what had gone wrong the NSBA hired an outside law firm to write a report about what went wrong. That’s the 55 page report that was released today.

The first takeaway is a confirmation of something we learned last year. The letter was arranged by Chip Slaven, the interim CEO of the NSBA at the time. However, the White House, in the form of White House Senior Adviser Mary Wall, was heavily consulted about the letter during its drafting.

Here they come – boatload of Illegal Centrelink Seekers intercepted.

Hey Kristina ..they got the message.

Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews has warned that people-smugglers are “already trying to start up their illegal trade on the eve of an election” after the Sri Lankan navy intercepted a fishing vessel carrying dozens of people on Wednesday. A fishing vessel and two dinghies were stopped by the Sri Lankan navy off the Batticaloa coast earlier this week, with 40 individuals including four people-smugglers apprehended for attempting to “illegally migrate to a foreign country by sea”.

Ms Andrews, who met senior Sri Lankan officials in December about strengthening co-operation to combat people-smugglers, told The Weekend Australian “it’s already starting”.

“We know people-smugglers are watching and waiting for a change in Australia’s government, and they’re already trying to start up their illegal trade on the eve of an election,” she said.

“Only the Morrison government can keep people-smugglers out of business through our strong stance and consistency on border policy – no one who comes here illegally by boat will ever be allowed to settle in Australia.”

    Hillary Clinton Did It

Her 2016 campaign manager says she approved a plan to plant a false Russia claim with a reporter.

    By The WSJ Editorial Board

The Russia-Trump collusion narrative of 2016 and beyond was a dirty trick for the ages, and now we know it came from the top—candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. That was the testimony Friday by 2016 Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook in federal court, and while this news is hardly a surprise, it’s still bracing to find her fingerprints on the political weapon.

Mr. Mook testified as a witness in special counsel John Durham’s trial of Michael Sussmann, the lawyer accused of lying to the FBI. In September 2016, Mr. Sussmann took claims of a secret Trump connection to Russia’s Alfa Bank to the FBI and said he wasn’t acting on behalf of any client. Prosecutors say he was working for the Clinton campaign.

Prosecutors presented evidence this week that Mr. Sussmann worked with cyber-researchers and opposition-research firm Fusion GPS to produce the claims on behalf of the Clinton campaign, and to feed them to the FBI. An FBI agent testified that a bureau analysis quickly rejected the claims as implausible. (Mr. Sussmann has pleaded not guilty.)

Prosecutors asked Mr. Mook about his role in funneling the Alfa Bank claims to the press. Mr. Mook admitted the campaign lacked expertise to vet the data, yet the decision was made by Mr. Mook, policy adviser Jake Sullivan (now President Biden’s national security adviser), communications director Jennifer Palmieri and campaign chairman John Podesta to give the Alfa Bank claims to a reporter. Mr. Mook said Mrs. Clinton was asked about the plan and approved it. A story on the Trump-Alfa Bank allegations then appeared in Slate, a left-leaning online publication.

On Oct. 31, 2016, Mr. Sullivan issued a statement mentioning the Slate story, writing, “This could be the most direct link yet between Donald Trump and Moscow.” Mrs. Clinton tweeted Mr. Sullivan’s statement with the comment: “Computer scientists have apparently uncovered a covert server linking the Trump Organization to a Russian-based bank.” “Apparently” is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

In short, the Clinton campaign created the Trump-Alfa allegation, fed it to a credulous press that failed to confirm the allegations but ran with them anyway, then promoted the story as if it was legitimate news. The campaign also delivered the claims to the FBI, giving journalists another excuse to portray the accusations as serious and perhaps true.

Most of the press will ignore this news, but the Russia-Trump narrative that Mrs. Clinton sanctioned did enormous harm to the country. It disgraced the FBI, humiliated the press, and sent the country on a three-year investigation to nowhere. Vladimir Putin never came close to doing as much disinformation damage.
