TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan joined the Major Economies Forum Ministerial Meeting on Energy and Climate on Thursday, January 27, 2022. On the occasion, Luhut reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to battling climate change and deforestation.

“Indonesia has continuously committed and contributed [to these matters] through our robust efforts to ensure sound forest management and to protect and manage our natural resources. We call for cooperation and collaborations with other countries towards sustainable forest management,” Luhut said in a release on Friday, January 28, 2022.

Luhut said Indonesia aimed at setting an example and called on all nations to fight against the impacts of climate change and safeguard environmental sustainability through tangible actions.

One of the actions, he went on, was through the alliance of the Global Blended Finance to support environmental sustainability, health and the digital world that would be discussed in Bali in April ahead of the G20 Summit.

Luhut also touched President Joko Widodo’s decision on the New Era Bali Roadmap during the launch event of the preparations for the G20 Summit in Bali.

According to Luhut, Jokowi has pegged a net zero target for Bali in 2045 as a prototype for a sustainable future. “The President has also inaugurated the largest green industry area in Kalimantan,” he said.
