Britain has reacted to Iran’s admission that its military actually shot down the Ukrainian passenger plane.

Iran made the admission on Saturday days after denying having anything to do with the crash.

It, however, attributed the incident to human error while apologising to its citizens and families of the victims.

The UK, reacting through its Prime Minister, Boris Johnson called Iran’s admission an “important first step.”

In a statement issued by his Downing Street office on Saturday, the Prime Minister promised his country would do everything to support the families of the 5 British citizens who died in the crash.

“We will do everything we can to support the families of the five British victims and ensure they get the answers and the closure they deserve.”

Johnson added that the UK would work closely with Canada, Ukraine and other international partners to ensure “a comprehensive, transparent and independent international investigation and repatriation of those who died.

“This tragic accident only reinforces the importance of de-escalating tensions in the region,” he said.

“It is vital that all leaders now pursue a diplomatic way forward.”
