Oprah Winfrey Addresses Rumors Of Being Godmother To Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Daughter Lilibet
Oprah Winfrey shot down rumors that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were planning to name her as daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor's godmother, insisting they may want someone younger to take on the important duty.
The TV host, who has a close friendship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, implied that she was Lilibet's godmother by default because she is so close with the family.
"I don't need to be a godmother, I'm a godmother by default," she told Entertainment Tonight, per Mirror. "I'm a neighbor, I'm a friend and all that, you probably need someone younger to be the godmother."
While discussing the couple's second child — whom they welcomed on Friday, June 4 — Oprah said she was a huge fan of Lilibet Diana's name, as Harry and Meghan chose to honor both the prince's late mom, Princess Diana, and grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II — Lilibet is Her Majesty's childhood nickname. She also shared that she plans to send the power couple a gift for Father's Day.

Oprah's "default" godmother claim comes months after Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, sat down with the talk show titan to share their side of what life was really like behind palace walls. During their March interview, Harry and Meghan made explosive allegations against the royal family, even accusing unnamed royals members of racism.
Harry sat down with Oprah once more for their Apple+ The Me You Can't See series, during which Harry candidly opened up about his mental health struggles and experience growing up in the royal family.
In light of the shocking claims made by Harry and Meghan since their royal exit, dubbed Megxit, last year, things between the couple and royal family have been tense. Harry previously reunited with his family face-to-face for the first time since dragging the royals through the mud in April for Prince Philip's funeral.
And while Harry was met with icy greetings upon his return to the U.K., the father-of-two may have better luck when he ventures back to his homeland for a second time to attend the July 1st unveiling of his late mother's statue.
Harry's relationship with Prince William has especially been strained — with Harry previously claiming that the Duke of Cambridge and father Prince Charles are "trapped" in royal life — however, there is "hope the memory of Diana can repair their relationship," said a source, "but that seems a long way off right now."
