Stream the new album by Merzbow, Keiji Haino & Balázs Pándi

September 2019

The three noise improvisors reform to record an album with “no limitations, no concepts... just listening and playing”

“All we do is listen and play. Wherever we go with the music, the moment takes us there. Even if we make a plan, we just go with whatever we feel like doing.” So says Hungarian drummer Balázs Pándi about his sessions with prolific Japanese noise musicians Masami Akita aka Merzbow and Keiji Haino. This is the second record by the trio, following 2016’s An Untroublesome Defencelessness, both released by London imprint RareNoise. Become The Discovered, Not The Discoverer features Merzbow on guitar, Pandi on drums, and Haino on vocals and bass, an instrument the latter has not recorded with before and decided to use impulsively on this session.

“It’s funny that,” continues Pándi, “even though I try to not play in tempo anymore and approach drumming more as colouring to give the music another texture, this one turned out more like a classic rock record.”

Become The Discovered, Not The Discoverer is released by RareNoise on 27 September
