The Big Bang Theory: HBO Max Scores Streaming Rights to All Episodes
The pot just got a little sweeter (and nerdier) for potential HBO Max subscribers: WarnerMedia’s forthcoming streamer has nabbed exclusive rights to The Big Bang Theory, TVLine has learned.
All 279 episodes of the CBS sitcom, which wrapped its 12-season run in May, will be available on HBO Max when it launches in Spring 2020.
“Few shows define a generation and capture mainstream zeitgeist like The Big Bang Theory,” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman of WarnerMedia entertainment. “We’re thrilled that HBO Max will be the exclusive streaming home for this comedy juggernaut when we launch in the spring of 2020. This show has been a hit virtually around the globe, it’s one of the biggest shows on broadcast television of the last decade, and the fact that we get to bring it to a streaming platform for the first time in the U.S. is a coup for our new offering.”
Added series co-creator Chuck Lorre, “I am forever grateful to have been part of something as extraordinary as The Big Bang Theory. All of us — Bill Prady, Steven Molaro, Steve Holland and the amazing writing staff, cast and crew — recognize that 12 seasons of laughter is a gift to be cherished. And now we are extremely excited that TBBT will be joining the HBO Max lineup and be available to both existing and future fans of the show. Laughter has legs!”
The Big Bang Theory joins an impressive library at HBO Max, which will also house all episodes of Friends, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Pretty Little Liars at launch, as well as all of HBO’s programming. Plus, the streaming service has more than 10 original series in the works, including an adaptation of the bestseller The Flight Attendant, led by Big Bang‘s Kaley Cuoco. An exact launch date and price for HBO Max have yet to be announced.
Additionally, TBS has extended its agreement to continue airing The Big Bang Theory through 2028.

Y’all just get Hulu cable… You get Friends, Seinfeld and BBT on TBS and we have this channel called Cozi that plays The Office and Will & Grace every night.

well that sux. I may get rid of Hulu Live (I don’t watch that much news anyway – it’s all depressing). I went streaming because it WAS cheaper. But with everyone having their own streaming, what’s the point? There’s too much cr@p on anyway.
Just have to hope that only a couple streaming services survive and the others eventually go by the wayside.
Amazon is really the only one guaranteed to stick around because of everything else that comes with Prime.
Here’s hoping. I think Disney & Hulu will survive, because, well, Disney. Netflix has shown itself to be a survivor – think of how it began. DVDs through the mail and now this. But hopefully the others will disappear or at least merge into one and then, lo & behold, we’re back to cable.
Since it’s a CBS property, shouldnt it go to CBS ALL Access ? What is the relationship between WB and CBS ? I know they share the CW but does one own the other ?

CBS hasn’t had a fully-owned comedy make it into syndication since Rules of Engagement and King of Queens, which both ended in 2013. They’ve been reliant on outside production studios (namely Chuck Lorre and Warner Bros TV) in producing some of their biggest sitcoms for almost 20 years now.
Shouldnt the show go to CBS All Access ?
CBS aired the show, WB is the one who owns it so it’s going to WB’s streaming service which just has the silly name of HBO Max.
Not a silly name at all. HBO is their most well known property and it makes it sound more “premium.”
The streaming “war” is getting even more stupid.
HBO Max have TBBT, Friends and Prince of Bel Air.
Netflix have Full House and Seinfeld.
Disney+ have Simpsons.
Hulu have Golden Girls, Family Guy and American Dad.
NBCUni have The Office and probably Will & Grace.

In South Africa a few months ago our version of Netflix started offering Big Bang Theory episodes. In fact all the shows listed for streaming on launch, Friends, Fresh Prince, Pretty Little Liars etc. are currently licensed on Netflix here. Guess I’ll have to finish them all very berry soon before they jump ship.
Come on guys there is enough on streaming for any one person would want to watch… That’s why you went to streaming cheaper… Meaning we all are giving up something not to pay the higher price for satellite to get your favorite shows/or stream for a cheaper price. Was a TBBT but can not watch it world won’t end!
That’s okay, but no thank you. Will continue to watch them on Fox & TBS & oh ye, I have all the seasons on DVD.
Can someone explain me the logic? Like, it’s a Warner property, so I’d think it would be a given that it’d go to HBO Max, but all theses articles lead me to believe that it isn’t. (the one about The Office going to Peacock, and Friends going to HBO Max)
So my question is: was there a chance that it wouldn’t go to HBO Max? Like, if Netflix would’ve payed more for it. Which begs the question: so HBO Max is paying more that Netflix would’ve payed?
Considering TBBT was a Warner Bros TV production and is going on WB’s streaming service, I’m actually curious as to the mechanics of the money is this kind of deal since it seems they’re essentially just transferring money around to different parts of the company. If they own it, why do they need to pay for it again to stream it? Where does the money actually go?
I’d think ’cause some producers and actors sometimes have ownership of a show, the back end, they’ re entitled to royalties etc, so not all of the money would go to Warner per se. But I wonder if theirs is the highest offer.
I’m kinda thinking that most of the money is actually going to Chuck Lorre Productions since it seems that although WBTV helps produce and distribute their shows, Chuck Lorre and his team are smart enough to maintain significant syndication and streaming rights.
Is that only for the USA? I have the show on prime video (mexico).
Well, so much for BBT. Absolutely not going to HBO. Guess if I want to watch it I’ll just have to buy it on Amazon because I’m not spending more $$ to jump around. Go here for that series, there for that one, over there for BBT etc. Streaming is supposed to save money.
