Located in a city known for its rich technology and innovative leadership, our Boston Research Center sits adjacent to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The center conducts research in computational reservoir modeling and nanotechnology and develops advanced materials science and separation technology systems.

Basic Function

Provide professional advice and assistance in the resolution of substantial laboratory-related technical problems in the areas of chemistry; chemical, petroleum or civil engineering; industrial microbiology; or other applied industrial sciences associated with operational problems in Company facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide professional advice and assistance in a specialized area of technology such as industrial, analytical or physical chemistry; microbiology; geotechnical or other specialized areas of civil engineering; petroleum or chemical engineering
  • Design and carry out analysis and characterization with minimum supervision in a research program focused on new nanoscale materials and chemicals for Reservoir Engineering
  • Perform laboratory experiments about the design and prototyping of complex, multi-step analytical and chromatographic systems and develop process automation and improve ease of use based on knowledge and skills in the areas of chemistry, materials science, physics, chemical engineering, or other engineering discipline
  • Assess the potential for reservoir applications of novel instrumentation and analytical methods from academia and other industries that employ advanced gas or liquid chromatography, and/or advanced imaging or detection systems based on optical or other spectroscopic methods
  • Carry out original investigations relating to technical problems outside the scope of available literature
  • Keep current with significant developments in the field of specialization; will be expected to use these in high investigative assignments when applicable
  • Make comprehensive professional reports of investigations and review existing patents
  • Maintain and updates working knowledge of applicable state-of- the-art laboratory instrumentation
  • Provide and manage a safe, accident-free laboratory environment
  • Follow all company safety rules in performing job duties
  • Lead collaborative research with other R&D areas of the company, e.g., analytical chemistry, process engineering, applications, etc. for increased intellectual property opportunities and future business advancement of Aramco Services Company (ASC) or Saudi Aramco
  • Publish in relevant journals and present in conferences
  • Serve as a team leader or participate in major investigative projects as assigned
  • Perform other miscellaneous related duties as requested

Education and Experience

  • B.S. Degree in Science/Engineering/Physics/Mathematics Discipline as appropriate for the area of expertise for the assigned jobs; PhD. degree in Analytical Chemistry or Materials Science preferred
  • Seven years (7) experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area relevant to the jobs assignment
  • Direct experience with a wide range of techniques and instrumentation of analytical chemistry is essential, including advanced gas or liquid chromatography, and/or advanced imaging or detection systems based on optical or other spectroscopic methods
  • Strong knowledge and skills in electronic, mechanical, or optical design as applied to instrumentation- or experiment- building is desirable
  • Experience with hardware and software approaches to instrument interfacing and data acquisition (including preferentially National Instruments' LabView system) for the development of novel lab instrumentation systems
  • Specific experience and expertise with nanomaterials characterization, handling, and best EHS practices preferred
  • Candidate should be comfortable in working independently or part of a project team, frequent project presentation and travel to meetings at conferences and universities
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
