Maj Gen faces court martial over alleged misconduct
NEW DELHI: The Army is all set to court martial a Major General for allegedly sending pornographic video clips and obscene messages to NCC girl cadets on their mobile phones while he was posted in Gujarat in 2017-2018.
Sources on Thursday said that though the Major General (named being withheld because the charges are yet to be proved in a trial) is slated to retire in a few weeks, he will be “attached” to an Army unit for the court martial under Section 123 of the Army Act of 1950.
Military personnel can be punished under the Army Act if the trial or court martial begins within three years of their retirement.
A court of inquiry (CoI) had been ordered into the matter after the NCC girls complained to higher authorities that the Major General, who is now posted in central India, was sending them porno clips through WhatsApp and obscene text messages.
The CoI, headed by a Lt-General, found the senior officer prima facie guilty of the charges. Around 10 officers, including another Major General, have faced court martial in cases of “moral turpitude”, corruption and sexual harassment over the last couple of years.
