Hanukkah Bar Chai-vy and Cohen-y is coming back Sunday, November 28th through “Decemberish”

1537 7th Street, NW

From a press release:

“Ivy and Coney, the birthplace of Thick Malort, is proud to announce something you might actually enjoy: Hanukkah Bar is back! Beginning Sunday, November 28th through Decemberish, whenever we take the decorations down, the Manischewitz shall flow, the dreidels shall spin, and fun will be had by all. And we take credit cards now. The year 5782, what a time to be alive! It’s been a tough 20 months, so it’s time for all of us to wash it away with a round on the Shotnorah.

In honor of our holiday that involves actual fire (not just some wimpy string lights and pine trees), we’ve got delicious latkes, sufgani-shots (jelly donut in shot form), and Manischewitz’s finest kosher wine. Latkes, arguably the most important culinary creation since unleavened bread, will feature prominently as a reminder of the oil used to light the menorah, and the fact that fried foods truly are the tastiest. Each night we will be lighting the Hanukiyah at approximately 7:30 PM (November 28th through December 5th) and invite our guests to participate. Who knows, you may even find a present in your hands at the end of the night.

No Jewish holiday is complete without something wholly unimportant to argue about. So this year, we will finally settle the age old debate about whether you should top your latke with apple sauce or sour cream. Diners will have the opportunity to declare allegiance to #TeamAppleSauce or #TeamSourCream, while debating the culinary merits in our state of the art Latke Thunderdome1.

As always, we’ll be donating all proceeds from the sale of Manischewitz products to HIAS. In a year that’s been particularly difficult for refugees, we hope everyone will join us in throwing down some serious gelt to support new residents joining our community.

Most importantly, we will be unleashing the Beast of Balagan on our DC mishpocheh in the form of our custom-made shot menorah. The #ShotNorah (patent still pending) is designed for the enjoyment of eight guests at a time. The bartender will act as your shamash, pouring revelers a choice of shots. No kvetching about stains on your clothes will be allowed. What more can we say? Let’s make like a menorah and get lit!

December 5th– Last Night of Hanukkah
